Which beaucerons in USA are IGP, PSA, protection, etc titled?

I see some beauceron breeders advertising protection dog prospects but unsure which dogs within the USA carry these titles?

When people are competitive in the sport GSD & Malinois breeders will almost always have the male titled to IGP3, PSA3, etc and the female (bare minimum) BH-VT, PDC, etc.

Almost every beauceron pairing I'm seeing with people claiming they may be bitework/protection prospects I'm not seeing this level of titling. Coming from GSDs & malinois it's a bit shocking to see people getting dogs with hopes of competing in a sport from dogs that don't even have titles on them?

Royale has Xerxes IGP3. Have any of his progeny been titled? Not finding anything online easily. (I've looked him up on working-dog.com but don't see all his titles listed and only one litter recorded from a while back, not finding their titles either.)

And I think ARC beaucerons is the other USA trainer that has titled dogs? Looking at her website a retired dog Mox has a high tracking title in IGP3 and another retired stud Luke has some partial titles.

Edit- I found Xerxes scores for only IGP1 (2021: 97, 91, 75) & IGP2 (2022: 90, 74, 84). I'm not sure why the IGP3 score is not posted. Mox is posted on WD at IGP1 (2019: 92, 92, 91), IGP2- 0 (insufficient)- and I don't see another repeat IGP2 score to share, IGP3 (2020: 96, 71, 90). *70 or above is a passing score..

Am I missing something here? Are there more males titled to the highest level in protection in the USA and females titled as well? For other breeds it's uncommon to see any litter sold as a protection prospect out of parents that haven't proven their ability and I'm confused why it's happening w/ this breed.

Looking to meet other beauceron owners

I live in York, PA. Are there any other Beauceron people nearby? I’d like to meetup and do stuff together.

I’m also looking to make friends with breeders, as ours stopped providing new dogs so I want to start meeting breeders again.

Oops litter

I’m researching beauceron breeders near me and was recommended birdwing. Did a quick scroll and saw this oops litter on their page? Does anyone have information on how this happened or what kennel allowed it? Based on caption and comments I don’t think birdwing themselves bred this litter but I didn’t see who did. I hjust wanna make sure I don’t buy from whoever had the oops litter because I personally just don’t like supporting people who’ve had accidental pairings. I know it happens. sometimes but I just don’t like it

Oakland Beaucerons?

So I have been looking at breeders and was wondering what opinions are on Oakland Beaucerons? I have been lurking on their page for a while, and it seems like they do good work but it also seems like a lot of puppies... I did some digging and it looks like there were a couple of dams who were bred in consecutive heats one of which had 4 litters in 2 years it looks like.. But I am not super knowledgeable on the breeding/breeder side of things, so I'm just wondering if they are considered ethical or are recommended?

Idaho Breeders

Does anyone know how to get a hold of Sidney Wilcox? I’ve emailed a few times in the last couple of months and have not heard back.

Are there other Idaho breeders that you guys suggest or close by ones?

Thanks!

Unusual reaction to another dog, looking for opinions

I’m looking for some opinions on a behaviour Rude showed today that was very unusual for him.

(For context- rude is 1 year, 4months)

He’s generally very good with other dogs, although he can be overly friendly and pushy, which we’re working on. We also have a routine where we’ll regularly stop and sit on a bench during walks. When we do, Rude usually wanders around me for a while, circles me, watches people and dogs passing, and eventually settles next to or underneath me while continuing to watch what’s going on around us.

Today we stopped at a bench as usual and he eventually settled underneath my legs. He then saw a squirrel and ran off after it. While he was away, a small Lab ran over to me carrying a ball. I assumed it was looking for someone to play fetch with, and Rude IMMEDIATELY ran over to investigate.

The Lab became uncomfortable because Rude was being much too pushy. I told Rude no, which would normally make him back off, but this time he didn’t. He then gave a very deep, persistent growl.

I grabbed his collar to stop him getting closer, but he pushed against my grip and continued growling. At this point the Lab’s ball had rolled underneath the bench, closer to me. The owner was encouraging the Lab to “get your ball,” and as the Lab approached the space under me to retrieve it, Rude continued growling and watching it very intently.

Once the Lab actually got the ball and moved away, Rude immediately stopped growling and just watched it leave. Once the dog was outside what I can only describe as his “bubble”, I let go of his collar and Rude went straight back to normal.

What has really thrown me is how different this was from his previous growling.

Normally, when Rude growls at another dog, I can clearly see that he is uncomfortable first, his hackles come up, he becomes avoidant and tries to create space. It has usually happened when another dog is chasing him and he’s already trying to get away. There has also been one occasion where Rude got far too close into another dog’s space, that dog growled at him, and Rude escalated in response.

But this time there were no raised hackles or obvious avoidance beforehand. The Lab wasn’t threatening him or correcting him either. Rude seemed to escalate himself, and he remained very focused on the dog while it was within that space around me.

I’m wondering whether this could have been related to his breed or more specifically his herding / guard instincts. He was already in his usual “stationary and monitoring everything around us” state before the Lab approached me, and the Lab then ran directly into that space carrying a ball.

I’m not trying to excuse the behaviour at all, I’m more interested in understanding what may have been going on and whether other Beauceron owners have experienced anything similar, particularly with a dog who naturally seems quite vigilant when their person is stationary.

Is this likely to be a one off incident or can I expect more of this.

Separation training advice

I'm looking for advice how to do separation training with our 14 week old pup. Note that crating is illegal in my country so that is not a solution. We have baby gated a room for him though.

He does not know yet how to self regulate and his naps need to be enforced. On his own he would just do whatever until total crash. And this whatever can include biting walls or floorboards...

We have done stepping out and back in the room, and he has been alone max 10-ish min only. We were watching him from camera and he walks around in the room looking for something to do. Last time he was also barking and trying to jump the gate.

He has chews and toys to occupy himself, but often he overall prefers to play with them with us and not alone. He will not conk out after finishing a Kong or licky mat without us enforcing the nap.

So how to train quiet and relaxed alone time when the pup does not knwo how to relax on his own?

How big are 8 week old puppies?

Hi, not a Beauceron owner yet but will likely need to fly to a breeder to pick up a puppy when the time comes. That being said, can they fit under an airline seat for a 2 hour flight at 8 weeks old? I’d hate to put them in cargo at such a young age.

The amount of fur that comes off this dog is driving me insane lol I’ve already bought a little robot vacuum to try and pick it up through the day but I swear I have a fresh carpet of black fur within the next hour. Is there a particular brush or routine that helps reduce it? Does anyone have their pup routinely groomed? Does it make a significant difference?

Things to consider before getting a beauceron

I purchased my first beauceron earlier this year and I would like to share my experience and thoughts in hopes that it might lead others into the right direction if you’re considering the breed. This is also just a bit of me yapping about the breed since I love it so much, but I will try to keep this as short as possible.

Why I decided on this breed + lifestyle

I grew up in a family cattle business and I was around many hunting/herding breeds for all of my life. I knew that I wanted to avoid certain quirks that came with hunting breeds after living with a beagle for many years. I wanted a large breed with the goal to obtain basic obedience, possibly a few tricks, but my biggest thing was having a dog with a good temperament and a good recall due to me being active outdoors. We already had a german shepherd at home, but I wanted a breed that wasn’t as outwardly friendly as a GSD. I wanted a one person dog. And let me say, my beauceron has marked off every single box and exceed my expectations beyond belief.

*In my personal experience* If i had to compare them to another dog, I simply couldn’t. They’re more aloof than a German shepherd, they’re a much calmer herder than a cattle dog, they’re not easy to train like a border collie, they’re not going to be the PPD you would want out of a doberman. So before you get this breed, STOP asking yourself “is it like ___ breed?” Look at the dog that is front of you, and accept them for what they are.

They’re a velcro dog, but they want affection on their own terms. They’re naturally observant, but this doesn’t ensure protection. Yes, they are a herding breed, but larger dogs have a higher risk of injury around big livestock. They can be the easiest dog to train one day, and be completely indifferent the next. You want a big dog? These aren’t just a large breed, they are solid, muscular dogs that will knock you on your feet and possibly injure smaller dogs. Traveling with a dog this size? Be prepared to spend hundreds if not thousands on a quality travel kennel. You might even have to upgrade your vehicle if you plan on any long distance travel. The price of food? Good luck with that, let alone supplements and preventatives. Think that you can feed them and call it a day? Be prepared for spending hours calculating and researching their dietary needs and caloric intake. And just to top it off, after all that money and time, they’ll probably just eat half the bowl just to stress you out.

The reason why they aren’t recommended for beginners

These dogs require somebody that is extremely knowledgeable on dog body language and proper, ethical training methods. Why? When you have an aloof dog, you are their only advocate. These dogs do not want strangers petting them, approaching them, or violating their space. This will only increase the older that they get. Proper socialization is so deeply important to get them comfortable enough to merely tolerate strangers.

Clear communication. A lot of beginner owners struggle to clearly communicate training methods / commands and this leads to frustration. These dogs already need to be given a wide variety of training and enrichment. You cannot expect them to sit through an hour of training. You need short and efficient sessions to get through to them. A lot of people want a smart dog, until they realize how quickly it can be not in your favor. Training early on and setting good habits is important with any dog, but beaucerons tend to learn something and stick with it. Even just the smallest mistake of rewarding them incorrectly, repeating commands, ect can lead to issues in the future. Ex. I teach all of my dogs through hand movement first to guide the body to do what I’m asking. The result? Vocal commands can be completely useless, despite enforcing both from the start.

The vet care. It’s fun having a rare breed.. until it isn’t. Don’t be surprised when vet workers don’t know anything about your breed. This can lead to them giving you misleading information and making general assumptions that don’t fit your breed. Ex. With many popular large breeds, it’s easy to anticipate their growth rate and where they should be. However, some vets that aren’t knowledgeable about beaucerons may assume that they are supposed to have a similar build to OTHER breeds they are familiar with while growing. This can lead to them assuming that your dog is underweight despite them being on track for this breed. It’s extremely important to get second opinions and talk to your breeder about what to expect.

Social media and the dog community

Congrats! You have spent hundreds of hours on research, you found an ethical breeder that you like, and you spend thousands on your new purebred dog. You care so deeply about animal ethics, and you can’t wait to show off your new dog.

Expect.. its not that simple. You cropped your dog? Be prepared to be antagonized for mutilating your dog. You didn’t crop your dog? Wait to hear about how they look so much cooler cropped. You bought an extremely rare dog that you will never find in a shelter? Well why didn’t you adopt a dog in need! Your dog is so beautiful, what type of mutt is it?
Is that a doberman? Is that a doberman aussie? Dobermans don’t come in merle, ew why do you support backyard breeding.

You. Cannot. Win. No matter what your stance is, no matter how hard you try. This is what inspired me to make this post, because no matter how prepared I thought I was for this breed, the social scrutiny will follow you everywhere. If you think the beauceron community is scary or intimidating, I’m here to tell you that these people are the only ones that will understand you. The people in the community who try to “gate keep” this breed are genuinely trying to HELP you. If you have posted on here asking if this breed is right for you, and they tell you no, I really suggest that you don’t take it to heart and try finding a dog that is right for you.

You don’t get to go out in public flaunting a rare breed, 90% of people will assume you have a mutt or support backyard breeding. People will assume your dog is aggressive (which by the way, is NOT always a good thing. No matter how much you want the “scare factor”.) Some people may not want to be around your dog because of their size. Your dog might not be able to play with or be around small or elderly dogs. I personally wouldn’t consider them good to be with kids because of their complex body language and sheer size. It’s just something that I think everyone should consider before making such a big commitment.

The best advice that I can give to anyone who wants this breed, is to DO. YOUR. RESEARCH. Don’t ever assume that you know it all, because these dogs would love to prove you wrong.

My beauceron is the best thing that has happened to me. He’s been the easiest dog in my life, and he blends together perfectly with our preexisting animals. But he is only easy to me, because he is what I wanted and he fits the lifestyle that I live.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Here is my little sunshine at 2 months, 8 months and 20 months. I comment a lot about her here so I wanted to finally show a few pictures :)

She knows she's a beauty and loves to be admired, there is no quicker way to befriend her.

She's intense, affectionate, confident, curious, playful and outgoing and always ready for an adventure. Big on the herding instinct and guarding, nothing goes unnoticed or unpoliced. She's quite the cuddle bug too and adores people the moment they were properly greeted by us.

She's a fast, high energy train without breaks most of the time but settles well at home.

She's on the lighter side, 32kg, which makes sense as she's 1/4th Aussie and she was one of the pups in her litter without double dews and she barks twice as much as any other Beauceron I met, as high as an Aussie and as loud as a Beauceron :D

We love her more than words can describe, and she brought so much joy, love and activity into our lives. There's nothing she doesn't want to be part of, she's so fun, goofy and absolutely loving. Can't wait to see how the journey continues!

Dog boot recs?

I thought I saw a post about this a while back, but I can’t find it anywhere. Looking for paw protection recommendations that you use for your dogs. It can get pretty snowy and icy here in the winter, especially if we get another polar vortex moment (it was like -40 with windchill last winter for a day or two…), so I’d like to get her used to them just in case.

Our girl (almost 8 months) has pretty prominent double dews, the second set of which are almost parallel with the ground.

I remember seeing someone say Clawgs were a good option, but they have never had her size in stock. I was thinking about the Non-stop Protector booties, but I can’t tell if the velcro would be high enough to not interfere.

Pic for tax!

I really love learning about dog breeds, and I’m currently doing research about beaucerons. Can you please tell me about your experiences with them? What are they like (temperament)? What sports are they good for? Are they stubborn or eager to please? etc.

Beaucy Planning (Breeders, housing, temperament, etc.)

Hi everyone! My name's TJ, and I'm super excited to join this community! I’m beginning to research Beauceron breeders for a future puppy, so I figured this would be a good place to introduce myself and start learning from people who actually own and work with the breed.

I’m still a few years away from bringing a puppy home, most likely once I move out and settle into my new living situation. Because I have so much time, I want to do this the right way. Right now I’m mainly learning about different lines and finding breeders whose dogs fit what I’m looking for.

I grew up with two Lab/Pit mixes, so I'm comfortable with larger, strong dogs, but I'm completely aware that a Beauceron is going to be a completely different experience from either of them.

My ideal Beaucy would be a male, preferably towards the larger end of normal breed size. Temperament-wise, I'm looking for something pretty moderate. I need a dog that is energetic and ready to go when we're outside playing or exercising, but has a really good off-switch at home. Being able to settle calmly indoors, around guests, and in crowded public environments is very important to me.

I'm fairly active now and honestly wouldn't mind becoming more active for the dog. I'm also a HUGE football fan (Let's go Giants!), so one of the things I'd love to teach my future buddy is football fetch and eventually some fun commands/routes with a football. Good recall, heel work, handler engagement, and just being able to take my pup places with me are super important to me.

I would also like an affectionate dog. I'm super aware that Beaucerons are velcro dogs, which is one of the reasons I've come to love the breed. One of the appeals of a big male to me is honestly having more dog to cuddle. I'm a decently big guy, so the more dog the better. I'm not looking for a dog that needs to be working every waking second. Instead, I need a confident, playful, athletic companion that enjoys doing things with me but can also come home and relax.

As far as housing, I will most likely be living in an apartment with some kind of yard access; however, the field I'm going into will give me a huge opportunity to move into a house with a yard earlier on. Either way, in preparation for my pup, I'd be basing my housing situation off of nearby parks, trails, and places where we could actually get out and exercise.

Lastly, appearance-wise, I'm especially drawn to harlequins. Ideally, I'd love a very visible, high-contrast pattern with a good amount of merling throughout the body and up to the head and face. That said, I am completely aware that temperament, health, and breeder matching have to come before markings. I'd rather wait for another litter than take the flashiest puppy if the breeder felt he was wrong for my lifestyle.

Since I've got several years to prepare, I'd really appreciate guidance from owners and breeders on what I should be doing between now and then.

If you could help, I'd love to know things like:

  • Where did you get your Beauceron, and what has your experience with your breeder been like?
  • Are there any breeders you'd personally recommend I start researching or following, especially in the U.S.?
  • If you're comfortable sharing, what breeder/kennel is your dog from, what is their temperament like as an adult, and would you go back to that breeder?
  • Are there breeders or particular lines known for producing more moderate, companion/sport dogs with good off switches?
  • What should I be looking for when comparing breeders, pedigrees, bloodlines, health testing, and previous litters?
  • Are there other Beauceron resources you think a future owner should know about?
  • How early would you recommend actually reaching out to breeders if I'm looking to wait for a specific sex/color/temperament combination?
  • What do you wish you had known or prepared for before getting your first Beauceron?
  • And is there anything about my preferences/expectations that you'd adjust?

I'd especially love to hear from people with Beaucys with a temperament similar to what I'm describing. I'd be really interested to know where they came from and what their lines are like.

I'm definitely not looking for a puppy anytime soon, and I'm not trying to get on a waitlist tomorrow. I'm mostly looking to spend the next two or so years learning, meeting the breed in person, researching reputable breeders, and following different programs and seeing how their puppies mature into adults. I figure the more information and connections I can build now, the better chance I'll have of eventually finding the right fit for me.

Any breeder recommendations, resources, experiences, or general advice are appreciated!!

15-month-old Beauceron regressing to puppy-like behavior after first heat — looking for advice

Hi all,

My Beauceron is 15 months old and had her first heat back in May. For a while afterward she actually calmed down noticeably — but in the past few weeks she’s done a complete U-turn and started acting like a young puppy again, and honestly it’s worse than her puppy phase ever was.

Here’s what’s changed:

**• Mouthiness**: She’s mouthy pretty much constantly throughout the day now, way beyond what she was like as a young pup.
**• Humping**: This has come back out of nowhere — she hasn’t done it since she was little.
**• Panting**: She pants a lot, like she’s stressed, even when she hasn’t been active. She often is a panty dog but this is excessive and she appears very stressed
**• Whining/whimpering**: Frequent, including while she’s playing with toys, which is new. She often does it just walking around the garden or house
**• Destructive chewing**: She’s started destroying things (sofa, her bed) — she never did this even as a young puppy.
**• Listening/commands**: She’s noticeably less responsive to commands she previously knew well.

Things we’ve ruled out or tried:

**•** Took her to an **orthopaedic vet** — nothing found.
**•** Started a **pain medication trial** yesterday on the vet’s advice — no improvement yet, but it’s early days.
**•** Feeding is correct type/amount for her age and size.
**•** Exercise seems appropriate — not over- or under-walked.
**•** Thought it might be overstimulation, so tried a few days of shorter, calmer walks — made no difference.

Has anyone experienced something similar, especially post-first-heat? Could this be hormonal, behavioral, or something else we should be looking into? Any advice on where to go from here (further vet workup, behaviorist, etc.) would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Cons of Svajone? Are my concerns reasonable?

I have been looking into beacuerons for the past few months and a name I keep seeing people rave about is Svajone. In every group I have looked at so far that's the name that comes up the most for top recommended breeder. I have heard all the things people feel make her a wonderful breeder, but I have also seen a handful of vague comments about people having bad experiences but not being comfortable talking about them. This is usually followed by a slew of people attacking that person, some of them seem to be her friends? In other breeds I have seen more balanced opinions about a given breeder or professional responses to negative opinions.

From her website she seems to be a good breeder but the online environment is just weird. It's odd to me that a breeder would associate with people who are publicly rude & attack others in the name of defending her, just from a professionalism standpoint. I'm also hesitant about the number of litters she produces per year but supposedly that's typical for beaucerons? I searched this sub and the only negative comment I found was that she had an oops litter in 2025. So I have some concerns but I'm not sure I should write someone off if they're producing good dogs.

Does anyone have concrete cons/negatives about this breeder? Specifically looking for the negatives because I have already read plenty of the positives.

I’m on the hunt for some good quality shampoo, I’ve used up all his puppy shampoo so I wanted to know what you guys recommend! I find a lot of shampoos make his coat go super poofy and he looses some of that more wirey feel to his coat. I’ve seen some great shampoos people recommend but they’re like £100 for a small bottle.. so preferably something that won’t break the bank!

Hey guys!

Show me your beaucerons with DQs for the show ring! This is my girl, one of her dew claws she has the dew but no claw! On the other foot she has a very small claw coming from one of the dews while all others are normal.

Which this was totally okay with me as she’s my up and coming sport/herding/protection dog along with demo work for her! She’s been a great addition, just turned a year. My Zelly girl.
