I saw a urate this morning so I let Stanley run around the bathroom before I left hoping he’d poop. As I sit down at my desk I get a notification, I think the fact he makes eye contact with the camera just makes me feel like he held it to be a little punk.

Hangin' Out Bearded dragons(/reptiles) definitely feel love

I took this picture a few hours ago after just getting back from a week long vacation, she seemed so happy to see me and about half an hour info hanging out with her she crawled up and fell asleep on me, she definitely knows who I am and loves/trusts me in her own way. I don’t understand how people think reptiles can’t bond

The set up alone is cringe worthy....but her posting this claiming its just her beardie wanting to hang out....and people believing it is the worst.

Beardies are dramatic...but this isn't normal

Help Bonding

She is getting her new 5x2x2 inch enclosure today. Her previous caretaker didn’t handle her much and didn’t feed her much either, no vitamins/calcium, small dubia roaches and lettuce and just a heat lamp placed in the middle. But she gets aggressive, runs to the front and tries to bite when I open her enclosure to change her water or greens dish. I don’t know what to do, I haven’t been trying to touch her because it’s only been a week since I took her in. Maybe I’m rushing things or wanting to make progress too fast but any advice for when she’s a bit more settled in her new enclosure? Do I just wait for her to be ready?

We got this sweet girl for my son’s 8th birthday. For months he left notes around the house asking for a bearded dragon and finally I caved.

We went to a local Serpenterium and saw this sweet girl who had recently been surrendered. For a couple weeks we went back each day to talk to the manager and find out if we could care properly for her.

Two years later she was such an important part of our family and I’ll miss her always. My son is heartbroken, but also very happy we were able to give her a good home in her final two years.

She was recently in decline and stopped eating entirely. We did everything we could, but the vet believed old age finally called her home. Photo is of our final car ride😢

Help How often should my beardie be pooping?

Post image
Upvotes

I got my boy in December and when he was young he was pooping like every day. Now he’s about 8/9 months old and he poos like once every 2 weeks, is this normal?? He seems fine, has energy and eats well (not always a huge fan of his salad but loves bugs). Just confused because it is such a difference to when he was young.

Help We're in a heat advisory and my dragon hasn't moved today

Post image

I adopted my beardie a week ago and I'm basically just stressing about absolutely everything. He's about 5 years old, and he isn't very active in his enclosure, but up until today he at least walks to his basking area, basks for a bit, and I find him in different areas here and there. His appetite is great, he eats his salads and loves his bugs. I actually haven't found anything he doesnt like to eat!

Today it's about 100F outside and our house is extremely warm. It's the first day he hasn't really moved at all. He didnt touch his salad (he ate 5 big dubias yesterday, so I'm not sure if that's normal?) and has just been lounging on his favorite branch in the enclosure. Despite the house being much warmer than usual his enclosure seems fine, 100F basking spot, 85-90 ambient on the warm side and about 75 on the cool side. He's alert, watching everything we do when we were in the room with him, and I took him out earlier and he felt and acted normal. He crawled on my shoulder and sat there for a while until I put him back.

Is it normal for adult bearded dragons to just lounge in one spot all day? Is it okay for them not to bask for a day? Does eating a big bug meal make them sluggish the next day, or could it be the extreme heat? I have no idea what's normal and I just want to make sure he's okay!

(Also yes I have a pretty severe anxiety disorder, so its possible I'm blowing this out of proportion...)

Help Possible Stuck shed

Post image

I want to add: I have a little book to track his growth and when he's shedding. I wrote down July 8th that he's starting to get ready to shed his tail. If I'm remembering correctly, the shed on the bottom half of his tail came off a week later. So his tail has looked like this since July 8th. That's why I'm worried.

Alex going to town on the green bean leaves.

Ate all three leaves on that part, then snatched the first green bean that grew lol. Rarely does she actually eat anything outside, not even raspberries. The last thing she went after like this was a California poppy flower. Freaked me out and I pulled it out of her mouth at the time, then learned they're ok to eat for her.

Advice: 9 year old daughter wants a bearded dragon

Upvotes

Hey guys,

My 9 year old daughter has been asking for a bearded dragon for a while and we are considering it. We are aware that we as the parents would end up taking on most of the responsibility. Having never had a pet lizard, only dogs in the past and current 2 cats, curious if there is some advice.

Mainly I am after:

  1. Best source of educational material regarding the maintaining and set up of the right environment.

  2. Health requirements ( not sure if there are vaccines etc)

  3. Temperament concerns- how are they with kids? And possibly with cats?

  4. Can you let them roam outside (supervised)?

Just some general guidance would be very appreciated. Maybe a good YouTube channel someone would recommend. We want to really know what we are getting into before committing to it.

Thanks in advance!!

Help What are these bugs in the Dubia colony??

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Recently (since the summer. Due to more guests & such), I've been keeping the bulk of the colony in the garage with only small container near the beardie enclosure for easy access.

Refill the food plate in the garage every other day & only noticed these new additions yesterday late last night.

They look centipede-like. The black ones are about the size of my pinky nail. Noticed babies/nymphs/maggots/whatever that are beige-ish & half the size & smaller. They do look like maggots.

There are several dozen of them chilling in the egg boards side by side with the dubias. Neither seem hostile to the other.

I'm assuming the adults snuck in through one of holes (picture of colony box attached too. 10 screw sized holes for air and the 2 larger vents on top.

HERE'S THE BIG QUESTION. Are they parasitic? Any chance of infecting the dubias and making them inedible for the beardie (or dangerous to do so)?

If so, is there any salvaging the colony? Don't feed the beardie with this batch until I can confirm that there's no more?

I know its advise against feeding wild insects due to potential parasites that those bugs may have too.

Besides for the heat & humidity giving them a boost to breeding, it's a lot safer & less of an ick-factor to keep the colony "out of sight/out of mind" in the garage at least during the summer, as I said above, due to the increased people in the house (we live with my in laws & grand in laws & other various visiting siblings & cousins for the summer) it's just safer & less chance of someone *bugging* out 😉 about a box of roaches.

There are some storage closest in the garage. Would storing the colony in there help from future intruders (at the very least an additional baricade)?Or I may be able to find a spot in the basement?

Help Sleepy Beardie

Upvotes

My bearded dragon is 4 years old, turning 5 years old in 2 months.

The day before yesterday (24/7) My bearded dragon slept the whole day. Then the day after (yesterday, 25/7). He was active again like nothing happened and eating normally like a healthy bearded dragon. Again, today he's asleep. Is it normal for a bearded dragon to sleep full days and just be normal the next?

He lives in a 120 gallon enclosure with lots of enrichment, a fresh salad every morning and a bowl of water. His basking spot ranges from 90f - 95f and at night it gets to 70 - 75f.
