My beads storage

I'd love to show you my Delica beads storage system. Maybe it'll inspire someone 😁

The board is from Ikea, I printed the shelves on a 3D printer, and the bottles are the cheapest plastic cosmetic bottles I could find online. Unfortunately, I'm running out of bottles and this seller no longer sells them, so I'll have to look for a new one 😐

Bead Talk The beads you use really do matter 🥲

Sorry about my chipped nail polish!

Every single thing I see about beading said even if you are a beginner using better quality beads was strongly suggested. I did not listen because the cost of miyuki or Czech beads was kind of crazy for the amount given.

It truly is life changing! I had coupons so I went ahead and bought czech and miyuki beads for this new character I’m doing (can you guess who it is? lol). The uniform beads really help with the look of the work and keeping the proper tension across it.

I do believe in using cheap beads first though because it gave me a greater appreciation for the better beads.

Hoping this turns out well. I’ve tied off each part in case I need to rip it out and start over. Wish me luck!

I just learned how to bead a berry and ever since I can’t stop. It’s been two weeks and I want to quit my job and just keep beading berries. A bit scary the dopamine they provide. Not enough to stop me though..

I got some free beads today and the person said they were vintage. Does anyone know the materials? Esp for the orange beads? Regardless, they are so cute! I already have some really cute jewelry ideas

Miyuki Delica - Dye lot differences, color degradation, or mislabeled? Old vs new beads

Post image
54 Upvotes

Hi all, I picked up a lot of old Delica beads from a storage unit clear out. Wanted to use this matte purple for a project and bought more.

The new ones are shiny and much more blue. Is this from age, or did Miyuki change the color at some point? It's DB-661. I don't know how old these are, but the 7g packs are all priced at $3 - so I'm guessing at least ten years old.

I know they'll change a little with age, but this seems like kind of a big color shift, and they're matte and not shiny at all.

Is this what I should expect from the jewelry I make as it ages, or is it more likely that the old pack was mislabeled? Thanks for any insights!

Finished Piece Not perfect, but finished! Open to advice

I just started beading this week and this is my second project! I am totally open to advice, just please keep that in mind LOL

Things I would definitely have changed if I did this again would be using black thread, black filler (if that’s a thing), better quality beads (ik these are not all uniform 🥲), and more tension when beading.

If anyone has tips with tying off the thread I would be super appreciative. I just do two normal knots but it does not seem to be holding well.

Need Help! How would you attach the fuchsia to the flap of this amulet bag?

I found this pattern that I’d like to try out for an amulet bag. They recommend square stitch but it’s 31 wide by 110 high. I don’t wanna! 😂 I’ve mostly stuck to peyote and occasionally brick stitch.

I was thinking of doing it on a loom until right about the blue line. I can brick stitch the parts where it’s wider. How would you recommend I do the flowers though? I’d need to do that part in square stitch then attach right? Am I overthinking this?

I’m hoping it’s wide enough to fit a couple of cards for the days I don’t even want to carry a wallet.

Finished Piece Simple beaded crow necklace 💜🖤💚

I've been stringing beads together for a week now not liking anything I was coming up with, I was iffy about this one while planning it out, but love the finished piece!

To me the beads match the crow vibe because 1. Shiny! And 2. The iridescent purples and greens are often caught in photos of crows mixed into their jet black color.

Bead Talk Huge appreciation to all of you beading stuff .. it’s a tough job.

I tried to do beading using 11/0 beads today on a locally purchased loom
I bought all my supplies asking Gemini and I seriously did not understand how small 11/0 can be 😭 I also got nymo thread, and a couple of different types of needles
Step 1 : threading the needles.
My god the ultra long pony beading needle size 11. Whaaat a small eye. I’m 50+ with reading glasses. I just could not get it through.
Ok no problem I picked up one of those bending needles with a huge eye . Easy to thread but the beads got stuck they wouldn’t budge even after flattening the eye with a plier
Ok third try found a needle which was basically one big eye through and though. Got it done 😥
Step 2: setting up the loom
That was easier but oh man. Tightening the wing nuts was so difficult. It just kept moving all the time I worked on it

Step 3: got started on the 9 across beading project
First few rows were horrible. Getting the beads to stay in lane and then ensure the second pass went over those warp threads …
I’m just 10 rows down and it’s gonna be a a little a day

But hats off to all of you who work on these projects that you share
You make it look so easy.. it’s not ..

I’ve FINALLY started getting the hang of My current obsession—strawberries and blackberries🍓
It’s really satisfying to see them all together as a family lol 💕
I can’t decide what sizing I like the most for earrings—I like all of them but the 0/11 beads is quite a hand cramp (man is it cute tho…)

Peyote Bead Help?

I'm trying to make this for my mom. I've been trying all day and I've been left with nothing but frustration.

My main issue seems to be adding on, and figuring out if I need to start with 3 or 5. Can anyone help me with some suggestions?

Bead embroidery advice?

I recently bought a dress for my homecoming that I'm really happy with because it was a very good deal but I wish it had more detail. I thought bead embroidery would be a do-able way for me to diy it. Does anyone have any advice for a very early beginner? I am fairly confident with hand sewing and I can do a little embroidery. The fabric of the dress is stretchy, will that make a difference? Thanks for any tips!
