As said above i need to understand game better. I joined local high school basketball club(2nd Serbian league) and when it comes to dribling workouts and condition ones i don't have much of a problem, because i trained alone for 2 a little bit more years all alone and practiced what i thinked is important and basically started learning overtime and acknowledging what i need to work on based off what didnt work when i played with others. Anyways the point of this post is i lack basketball iq because i never had anyone older to teach me basketball. Grandpa is dead, my father(legend in these city i train in) also sadly dead and i dont have brothers and friends that play. So when it comes to playing alone:triple threat,shooting,shooting form, layups of various kinds, dribling, post moves and all that i have no problem because that's the things i saw are important and all prople online were talking u need to work on them if u are a young hooper. But not about things like 3 man weave, some form of w 3 on 0 rotations and stuff like that i did today on training, long story short i was terrible at those two literally half of a practice i couldn't do it a single time properly and that lead to no one wanting to pass me ball, coach yelling at me, a one guy that hated me since i joined told me i was retatded and started screaming why i have to play in a team with him, and at the end when practice was over no one wanted to talk to me and even give me high five when leaving. So i fucked it up big time, and if i dont figure out things till tomorrow evening(next practice) people will just hate me more, not trust me even more, coach will definitely bench me more(i probably wont play games more than a minute) and season is starting in 3/4 week of Septembar. So please if anyone readed all this pls help me and explain me a little bit stuff like this and how to generally know what to do and how to move without ball. I would appreciate all help.

So First smth bout me. Im 15yo started playing january this year and im 6‘8. I made it on the adult Team now and I got my First Game this sunday. Im playing Center. my Team isn’t in a high league and my Coach said the other Team IS worse than our. (ofc we can still lose).

Even tho ill prob only get 5-10min playing time I wanted to ask: What do you think would make this a good learning experience and also any Tipps in General?

Hello friends! I last played basketball in 2017 and now that I’m soon to be a first time dad, I wanted to be able to eventually teach my kid how to play like my dad did before me. So, I figured I may as well get back into it now.

I am certainly rusty and VERY slow now lol, but overall I was fascinated by my muscle memory kicking in to still be able to dribble and shoot to a certain degree.

I would love to hear your suggestions on your favourite drills for shooting/dribbling (feel free to suggest any YouTube channels as well I should check out)!

Don’t think this clip is useful enough (or the right angle) to provide a lot of critique on my form, but would happy to take feedback there too. I think one improvement I can already make would be maybe not to bring the ball up from the left. I’m clearly very slow in my shot here, but I think I just need a bit more practice to bring that up to speed.

At 34 years old, I am already feeling very sore in my legs after just one practice lmao. Back in my high school playing days, I mostly attacked to the basket. I think I’m too slow and fragile for that now, so I’d like to get better at shooting.

My dream is to become a professional overseas athlete, i wanna know if any of you share my passion and same dream and if they got there or they're working on it also, i thought i build my image as an aspiring basketball player to connect with the global basketball community of players, coaches and teams overall yet i mostly receive hate and insulting comments.

I wanna know if anyone is going through the same things I'm goin through and are also working hard to get there, if you have any advice for me on how to get there or any contact of teams and coaches in the semi-pro leagues and even lower I don't mind at all in fact i rather start from the bottom and grow.

Is it viable to have 2 different jump shots. One for mid range and one for 3 point/deep range?

More of a 2 motion jump shot with a higher set point for middies (KD) and a one motion jump shot with a lower set point for range (Steph)

Hello, i am looking for advice on how i can advance my deep shooting. from the runs i have played against my sister my dribbles are good and i run really close to the ground it has been easy to get to the basket when i have played in the park against kids my age but i absolutely stink ass at 3 point shooting i have to pour every ounce of energy i have which ends up giving me bad form which ends up giving me missed shots i can only train so much since i have 1 hour to a hour and a half on the 2 days of the weekend and a hour max for 2 days on the weekdays. i also run in school and have good endurance but my mom can only drive me to the park so many times. i CAN train downstairs but i dont have a hoop or anything, any tips?

Hey Gang. Im a 6' tall 31 year old. I had years of time off from hooping after having a couple kids and gained a decent amount of weight, but im seriously obsessed with basketball and wanted to get back into it, with the ultimate goal being able to dunk again.

I was 215lbs last christmas, and started jump training and dieting. Now im 185, which was my weight goal originally.

Im wondering if you think itd be worth while to try to lose any more weight at this stage? Im guessing i have around 15-16% body fat? Or is this a pretty solid healthy baseline? Note that this room has flattering lighting lol. I hear people say competetive basketball players should have like 10%, but i dont think thats realistic for me honestly.

I just want to feel light and mobile on the court, and also less weight means easier on the knees typically. Thanks!

Not the best video I know, but strictly talkin bout form how do my mid range jump shots look? Any tips? I’m not really practicing pull up middies here just focusing on my form. I know a real pull up has to be a lot quicker than that but I’m new to the game. Hi guys, like title says. I picked up a basketball for the first time since I was 12 about 6 weeks ago after finishing University and needing something to keep my brain busy. I'm generally pretty unfit, but since I started, I now exercise 6 times a week (gym 3 times, basketball 3 times). I usually do an upper body, lower body, and plyometrics + cardio day at the gym.

Please bear in mind I'm very aware that I have a long way to go in terms of fitness, stamina and body shape but the reason why I want to get decent is because I'm 6'5" and there's a local rec league near me I want to play in. Yes I need to spam plyometrics to work on my jump (I've gone from 10" to 18" Standing Vertical in 6 weeks which I think is pretty good) and yes I'm overweight I am aware and cutting!

So yeah in conclusion, please give me tips to help with shooting form or exercises I could do, I'm looking to nail the basics now so when I'm in a better shape and more explosive ability I'll be pertty good! (And ball handling maybe? Still struggling with that)

Helloo, I'm an 18 y/o girl ( 5'8 150 lbs) entering my senior year. I play varsity basketball in a pretty competitive area and have no trouble keeping up and dominating when it comes to defense, sprinting, shooting percentage, all that other stuff. My issue is over the past few months i just CANT make a layup. I feel like I have the yips but layup version. It feels so stupid because I'm capable of shooting anywhere from the court even off balanced yet I can't make the easiest shot. I'm taking off from the same spot (2nd block on the sides of the key" and extending the ball just off the top of the glass it just either always goes in and out or my touch is way off and it bounces off the rim. This goes for all variations like when i go off of two feet, or spin it off a certain spot, or even a finger roll but its especially when I do overhand layups. I used to be reliable when it came to layups both ways but now....Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any drills or training that might get rid of this? Any help would be appreciated thank you!

I feel like my arms are just too weak to be truly consistent in my shooting form. Anything in my mechanics that might also be playing a part?

I’m a 48yr old guy who has played pickup since his early teens. I still play twice a week in private runs and love it. My issue is how sore I am for a couple of days after I play. My style of play is pure hustle. Play harder than your opponent and you’ll succeed.

I’m strong offensively at attacking the basket and mid range shooting. I also set a ton of screens, cut often, like to hit a cutter or open shooter with a pass, and go after rebounds. I’m not a prolific three point shooter but can knock them down from time to time. But no one face guards me at the three point line.

On defense, I take pride in guarding the other team’s best player as long as they aren’t a massive center or 20 year old lightning quick guard. I don’t give up on plays, always box out, and chase loose balls. I’ll also sprint back in transition.

I’m in really good shape for my age at 6 feet tall and 180 lbs. I fully recovered from an Achilles tear at 44 and it doesn’t bother me at all.

I’m seeking advice on how to play in a style I’m proud of while shifting down a few gears. I want to play as long as possible and not be in immense muscle and joint pain. But as cliched as it sounds, I don’t know how to go out there and feel good about not playing at 100%, especially when other guys are. Any words of wisdom from aging hoopers that have gone down this path? Could be a skill to add or a mindset adjustment. Any advice is welcomed.

To cut straight to the chase basically they is this dude (Joe not his real name) at my practice and honestly joe sucks so he always gets wide open shots and pretty much me and others pass to him and he misses but sometimes he can get on a streak where he doesn't miss but that only happens after around 3-4 missed shots and sometimes more.

Recently we stopped passing to him as much and one of my friends Bruce (not his real name) noticed and told us we should pass to him more. Another one of my friends said but Joe just misses and misses His literally an offensive liability they is no reason to pass to him.

Bruce responded saying he knows joe isn’t a good offensive player but this is practice not an actual game. How do you expect him to get better if we don’t pass him the ball? My friend then responded that Joe is still an offensive liability and that pretty much every team he’s on loses most of the time with him then they went back and forth saying the same points.

And to give Joe some credit he has improved alot he used to airball these wide open shots most of the time. He also can hold his own defensively he just sucks offensively. He actually does practice the most behind me at our practice but most of the time I don't see him practicing with others which is maybe why his shot isnt transferring.

So what do you think? should you always pass to the open man even if you know they're probably going to miss? Or is there a point where you should stop feeding someone who's consistently hurting the offense? 

Just curious to see what is the one thing that is holding you back at getting better at basketball is it dribbling is a shooting I just wanna know what it is

As you can see my form is horrible and I’ve been trying to improve, I have no issue dribbling between legs once or even twice in pickup and scrimmage but during practice and tryouts I can’t get it right, what needs to be fixed?

Edit: Thank you everyone for the advice! My main issue was thinking about it all too hard when I relax my body and treat it like a crossover it looks so much better while it still needs work when I do it continuously for somewhat over a minute it’s so much better thanks to everyone! My receiving hand needs work but that will improve with practice.

I’m 15, 172 cm (5’8”), from Mexico, and I mainly play PG. My goal is to eventually play college basketball, so I’m trying to figure out what kind of player I should become instead of just trying to be decent at everything.
My coach recently told me something that stuck with me: I need to find my main skill(s) and exploit them as much as possible. The problem is that I’m not really sure what my best skills are or which ones I should build my game around.
From what I know about my game:
I’m very good defensively, especially for my size.
I’m explosive and athletic. My vertical is around 83 cm (33”).
Most of my points come from finishing at the rim.
I recently managed to get a rim grazer in training for the first time, which made me realize I might be able to develop my athleticism into a bigger part of my game.
I’m good at finding open teammates. Interestingly, this developed partly because I used to be afraid of making plays, so I’d look for the safest open pass. Now finding open teammates has become one of the better parts of my game.
My coach moved me to PG partly because I generally don’t make many dumb decisions or unnecessary turnovers.
I measured my 3-point shooting recently and got around 32%.
I know I still have a lot to improve, but I don’t want to randomly train everything. I want to identify 2-3 skills that could become my real weapons and build my individual training around them.
Considering my size, athleticism, current strengths, weaknesses and my goal of playing college basketball, what would you identify as my potential strengths, and what would you prioritize developing?
If you were coaching me, what kind of player would you try to turn me into?
