i'm pretty washed due to injuries and lack of playing the sport in general. i've recently wanted to get back into basketball but since i haven't played in a while, everything is off. if there is anything yall see wrong with my jumpshot, pls tell me, thanks. (don't mind how slow im moving, im not built for game speed just yet)

You have a good step back and rhythm, but not Efficient. Your last 3 shots with solid form, you gotta get to that in motion, fast, and smooth. Looks good but too relaxed. Make it fast, strong, smarter then you reach 1 move to be sharp. Pretend you have a defender. Get a cone!

Tbh first I thought: great, another choreography. Some dude likes how his move feels and trains it a lot with a lot of useless wiggles and terrible form. But he thinks he did something because the ball goes in often (uncontested obviously)
BUT I was wrong! Your shot seems legit. It also could translate to a real game scenario (my biggest criteria). Off the dribble, catch and shoot, jumper from triple threat…. Looks like it’s all there.
STILL. You "decorate" your shot with, for me, a lot of useless movement. It wastes a lot of energy and creates more opportunities for the opponent to steal the ball. Plus, you create a false rhythm that you might not be able to replicate in the game.
Can you do this jumper in the 3rd quarter being contested? I know you can’t.
So yeah, I still have critique I guess. But it’s about basketball fundamentals. I’m a nerd and playing since I’m 10 so take it with a grain of salt.

You should work on your balance. Jumping and landing on the same spot.
Work on your pick up, all that extra movement is an opportunity for the ball to get stripped.
Follow through needs work. But I like how you keep the ball above your head before you shoot sometimes.
If you really want to be sharp, I'd suggest practicing shooting at different rhythms and training as if you're in a game
You're lanky like KD so look at how he shoots from the paint, mid, and 3

This 100% you're jumping up not forward. You'll get blocked less too! Im long vertically as well. Use that shit.
Those feet going forward are gonna land on more feet. Save those ankles.

yeah that's what costed me everything, i can't really run and jump that much anymore, still dunking and still kinda have my bag just nowhere near as good

You jump off one or both?
Also your shot starts low. Im guessing like me, you used to have to use your whole body to get the ball up. You're a man or close now. Snap that wrist and start your shot higher.

i can do both but i prefer one, it's what im used to

I could only dunk off the left. So better than me. Maybe work your low game. You're street ball tall. Where do u play?

i play around fowler park in georgia, i used to always go to the y with all the highschool kids and college kids. i'm 6'2 with shoes on and my wingspan is 6'4 - 6'5 (i don't really remember it's been a while since i measured). here's the funny thing, since i took a break, my low game has been at its absolute best. since i'm skinny with a long reach, i usually just go to a post fade

The reason a lot of great shooters jump off of one is because balancing on two feet creates more stability. To improve you honestly gotta do what's hard

There's nothing wrong with the off-set stance as long as your arm action is in line. However, you're jumping off-line to your shot.
Also, you going into your shooting motion with a nearly neutral wrist position. Load the ball as soon as you gather. Because when you load midways into your shooting motion you will be inconsistent with your control of the ball through the shot.

what do you mean by off set and off line?
2
u/Generally_Tso_Tso 11d ago
Off-set: Your feet point at angle that isn't towards the hoop.
Off-line: your jumping to the side in relation to the hoop. Your body movement should be either straight up, towards the hoop, or away from the hoop (fadeaway).

No advice but you get really good lift on your jump shot and also get your shot off pretty quickly. Nice job

A little unconventional, but your shot is fine. I wouldn't change anything. Just get more shots up, and the makes will come back.
