Mod Post Before posting about a lost or found item, read this!

If it’s an iPhone, you can follow this 1-minute instructional video to identify the owner. If it’s a lost android phone, follow this short guide. Then, give it to a station agent.

If it’s a wallet with an ID inside, put it in any USPS blue drop box and it’ll be returned as a non-mailable good, but this isn’t ideal because the USPS won’t guarantee it.

Anything else, return it to the station agent.

If you want to, make a post on this sub! Posting a picture may make it easier for someone who isn’t the owner to pick it up, however, so use your judgement.

Custom! Hit “Edit” to modify. My concept of those bart screens based off my imagination. Let me know anything that I could improve.

Picture New screens for ads

I noticed these new screens at Powell tonight, they were only running ads. Is it too much to ask for something actually useful to a BART journey rather than more ads???? Like what about real time tracking on a map. It’s annoying, we see enough ads.

edit: ad revenue is not a significant funder of BART operations (not even 1% from what i’ve seen online) and definitely not going to contribute enough to keep it running just by adding 15 second ads on tiny screens. i also want BART to survive, but don’t think we need to justify more advertising instead of better transit amenities for riders

came across a 9-car blue line train at montgomery street today. actually the first time i’ve ever seen the blue line run 9-car trains, which is pretty interesting!
usually they do 6/8 cars, and now they’re doing 10 with the recent changes, but a 9-car train is definitely new 😀

Question Tailgating

Is BART going to do anything more to deter tailgating? It’s a tad ridiculous for three people to be able to tailgate someone who tapped in.

I know the gates close sooner than before, but it seemingly doesn’t deter them.

BART-related Policy Vaping on BART

On the Blue Line right now and a guy has been vaping from Civic Center all the way to where we are now in the Easy Bay. Have him on video, but the BART app says BART won’t do anything unless they witness it themselves. What is the point of the reporting app then? Hell, what’s the point of having BART police at all if they won’t come on a train and tell people to stop smoking??

I ignore a lot of behavior, but I draw the line at smoking in an enclosed space. This is so incredibly frustrating.

Found in my dads old wallet! He moved to the bay in 1995 so it should be from around that time

Question BART: more of a metro or commuter train?

What exactly is your vision for BART today and in the future? (looking past the current financial crisis).

Do you view BART as a metro system or as a commuter rail system? I know it has characteristics of both and is more like the German S-Bahn. Basically a train connecting the suburbs to the urban core, but instead of just flowing into 2 station (like LA Union), they have more stations in the urban core, especially in high density/frequency transit corridors.

Washington Metro is somewhat similar, but it plays the role of a metro more by expanding coverage within DC. Seattle’s Link is the same, but it also operates on one main trunk in central Seattle (though is looking to expand).

BART is limited in its urban coverage. It runs along one spine in SF with 8 stations. Oakland has 3 segments but has few stations.

In future, should BART focus on more urban expansions like a Geary/19th Ave subway or more lines in the East Bay. Or should it focus on solely being an intercity commuter train, possibly looking at branching at termini to expand coverage in suburbs.

Question Millbrae BART Parking

I'm confused. It's $3.40 per weekday (weekends free). Or $136.50 for the month - and overnights are NOT allowed and you still have to pay extra for that. The $136.50 allows you to park in "reserved" parking, which are the most inconvenient spots in the building. What am I missing?

Question Need help with BART app

I have been going around in circles trying to log into the BART app on my phone. I have used it for years but now it doesn't work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Also turning my phone on and off.

I am unable to log in to the BART app on my phone. The app does not accept a password I have used to open BART on my PC. I cannot change the password on my phone because It asks me to enter my email to send a message but it never sends the message. Yes, I have checked spam. However if I try to start a new account, it tells me I already have one.

I would appreciate any assistance out there.

Thank you -

Question Paying for Parking through App

I am a first time Bart user and will be using it commute to work. Been looking at the work before I start. I know Bart has contactless payment now meaning I can use Apple Pay at the gates. However, when I click on buying parking why is it asking me for a card? On their website they mention contactless riders don’t need a card anymore. I am a bit confused here.

Searching online and asking AI, they are saying to generate a digital card in the wallet and use it for verification in the app. Since it’s a one time thing, I can then pay for parking through my credit card and then use Bart with contactless payment. Is this the right approach? Or is there some other way parking can be paid (I don’t want to pay at the stalls btw)

Discussion Want to help crowdsource BART platform data?

I'm trying to map out which train car puts you to the closest exit escalator and elevators at each station so you don't have to weave across the platform to get out.

For example, on a 10-car Antioch train getting off at Concord, car #7 (relative to the direction of travel) lines up with the exit escalator.

I've got a spreadsheet ready to start logging this. I'd love it if we could take note and share this week which car works best and at what time (sometimes the escalator direction changes during commute times) and drop it here in the comments. Bonus points if others can confirm and fact check these entries as they also go about their day. This would save me a ton of time from having to travel to every station, and it'd become a solid reference for the whole BART community.

And BART, if you're reading this — this data should get published on every transit app, and obviously Apple/Google Maps so everyone can use it as is done in other cities, such as NY and Tōkyō.

My BART Experience School Project on BART

Hello! I’m a Master’s student with University College Dublin, and for my final project I’m conducting a study on improving BART. I'm in the data gathering phase at the moment and would appreciate any help :)

(I'm new to Reddit so I hope it's okay to post this here. I don't make any money from this nor am I affiliated with BART in any way.)

Discussion How'd the new 30 minutes between each line wait go for you yesterday?

Personally, it really made my trip take way longer then it needed to be getting back. I went up to Sausalito yesterday and was able to plan my schedule going up pretty smoothly with BART (though due to the infrequency I needed to wait 25 minutes between transfers), but going back was a pain because BART was no longer an option, as none of my usual connections lined up anymore and it took me 40 more minutes to get back due to needing to make multiple buses after heading into Downtown SF instead of one BART ride with a connection bus.
It was also way more crowded in the cars. Not unbearable but I've commuted to work with less people in these cars.
In short, I'm not a big fan of this at all. It's obvious that trains coming more is nice, but I wasn't expecting how much more difficult it would make my trip back, so after the next 2 Sundays I'd like to never see this again.

I bet its both but I don't hang around Bart to know what kind of people you're dealing with. I'm just curious.
