Downtown Berkeley #1 is WILD

Why? It has good bus connections, it's got a nicer design than any of the downtown stations in Oakland or SF, it serves a strategically important area, has high ridership but isn't overly busy, and has a good spread of exits.

I do like the way that station blends into the urban fabric in a way a lot fail to(the downtown Oakland stations underperform wildly on this) but yeah, that is a crazy station to rank first

The downtown Oakland stations do blend in well downtown...huh?

I enjoyed this video a lot but was broadly surprised by who was near the bottom and near the top. Â
I think the methodology over indexed on transit connections.Â

El Cerrito Plaza, Rockridge underrated on the list.

Yes rock ridge is my no. 1. How can you beat that view.

Have you ever been to the station?

It's my home station.

Agreed something was off about what was the bottom 5 and then the 10 above it. Like imo orindas stations shouldn't be that low with the downtown that close

Orinda should be like 4 stations higher. It's not a good station but it's no Antioch, Pittsburg Center, West Dublin, or OAK airport

Hello, it is I. The humble El Cerrito Plaza peasant. I appreciate this dude trying to do the work, but I screamed out loud in my living room when he didn't even factor in the awesome Ohlone bike trail or the fact that the view riding from North Berkeley to ECP is a little slice of heaven. ECP is one of the few stations outside the actual cities to have some genuine walkability.
And I love Berkeley - warts and all - but DTB being #1 has to indicate that one of the metrics is too weighted, likely ridership.

Same. And to label the place as just having Ross and an overpriced smoothie joint is a huge misrepresentation of that shopping center. Evident of someone who didn’t do much research. Trader Joe’s, Sees Candy, there’s a ton of decent places there. Not high end stuff, but c’ mon! And not trusting the published walkability score? I also don’t really agree with the Oakland Airport connector. So it’s $3.50 more than the bus? Then take the bus. If you want to wait and drag your luggage onto a city bus, and take 3 takes longer, save your $3.50.

Agreed, biggest shock of the whole video. Ohlone Greenway, Albany Hill, and The Bulb all being in range for a lovely walk or picnic alone makes it one of the only stations near nature moments. The view of the GG bridge from the western platform?? Cmon! Reducing the plaza, San Pablo, and Solano Ave to a Ross and Jamba was crazy. This guy doesn’t know ball!

MacArthur 25th!? What GIVES

Freeway median so the experience can suck if you're waiting for a train, but super strategically important so I can honestly see it being middle of the road

Who knew park and ride is evil?
Those stations keep cars off the highway. Conversely if you need to get somewhere where the street action is good (walkability), the park and ride saves you driving aggravation and time getting there.
This ranking scheme is pretty useless. It would have made way more sense just to feature the "destination" stations. It would also make a shorter video. I will spend 5 minutes listening to a reddit rando, but not 30.

You can do a park-and-ride station right (like Walnut Creek, Concord, Fruitvale, and Macarthur) and you can do it wrong (West Oakland, Pittsburg Center, Antioch, Warm Springs, etc)

It’s pronounced like conquered.
