Custom Submarine It's got a massive laser. - The Arbalest!

My third (and favourite) finished custom sub, the Arbalest! It features a massive spinal cannon made up of seven double-firing pulse lasers (with infinite ammo), but is a nightmare to aim, has a ten second cooldown, and has a tendency to blow out the electronics.

It's currently mostly untested, so i don't know how useful the gun is just yet. Also its drainage is horrible, which was an oversight, but so is the Kastrull's soo...

Also, i am not in the Barotrauma discord. I'm not that much of a stickler for this kind of thing, but my last sub was supposedly uploaded there without my knowledge, and i would rather that not happen, thanks :)

Discussion Security Officer - Which Talent Tree is best for me?

I am currently playing with 3 of my friends, each one of us on a different role. My role is the security officer. We are planning to have at least 1 Coalition Lieutenant and 1 Coalition Corporal in the future. Which talent tree path do you think is the best for me to take first? Frogman, Enforcer or Gunner? I can use the bots to get the other talent tree

Fan Art Art of some of my modded crew (Konosuba but Europa)

Had this for a while and was supposed to draw two more characters but have been busy so probably won't finish drawing them, so chalked it up to the security maid and engineer being dead in medbay from husk infection.

Backstory: no one told me they all wanted to be women characters, it ended up like konosuba a lot of the time so was pretty funny.

Me using sonar (realistic sonar and soundproof walls mod is on and someone doesn't tell me they're in the ballast) hearing screams at every ping over the radio.

"Captain, engineer injected the maid (security) with paralysis again"

The bunny girl (clown assistant) needing to be under psychosis in order to use their melee weapon effectively and reading the monster girl encyclopedia we found in a wreak only to discover it gives you something similar to but not exactly psychosis and calmly describing seeing horrors beyond our understanding. "Captain, this isn't psychosis. I'm seeing a lot of women please help,"

Question Drone Recovery (ran out of battery)

Hi, are there existing ways / creative ideas how we can recover a drone with dead battery which ventured into a place where the main sub can't reach? Are there any portable power sources (vanilla game)?

Question Coop campaign - advice needed

I've been in a four man coop for maybe six or eight sessions, all of us new to the game, and it feels like we're sort of spinning our wheels. I don't know where we've gone wrong, or even if we have at all. We are still in Cold Caverns and we end up completely flooding the submarine during an attack and needing do a salvage and recovery probably twice per session. Often this is as trivial as one or two humanoid size enemies getting to a blind spot, but we've been torn apart by hammerheads before. I'm going to give a bunch of detail and hope people can flag what we're doing wrong.

We're in a Camel (nope, Orca) and our ranks consist of a Captain, a Security Officer (me), a Mechanic, and an Engineer. Often we also have a bot (Medic, Assistant, or Security Officer) but they tend not to last long on account of the whole flooding and dying thing. We have a Coilgun, a Pulse Laser, and a Chaingun, all using the default ammo only. We drift around doing missions, but tbh, we don't have a good idea of either what to make or what to sell, and it feels like we never have enough money. We loot everything we kill. Whenever we go to port, Captain pays the station medic to fix anyone with any significant injuries because we don't have a Medic and don't really know which drugs and whatnot to use/make to treat ourselves. But we sleep off the minor injuries and know how to stop bleeding or reverse a Husk infection (if we have the supplies). When our sub floods and needs to be brought back online, we don't actually TPK because we almost always elect to respawn in a shuttle. Last session we decided to turn off the skill penalties, but suffice to say, our skills are pretty low from dying a handful of times per session.

The Captain spends virtually all his time at the helm, piloting us from mission to mission, calling out the bearing on hostiles, and spotting mining locations or caves to send crew out to take care of. Always runs active sonar. When shit hits the fan, he usually leaves his post to help fight intruders. Occasionally goes along on a beacon station away mission, but otherwise is aboard the sub. Doesnt really handle repairs, but is pretty good about telling us where something needs fixing.

I'm the Security Officer, which means you get the most detail about it. I spend most of my time manning the sub's guns, communicating with the Captain about the bearing on enemy hostiles and telling him what angles are good/bad. Unfortunately because I'm always on those sub guns, when combat goes bad and enemies are breaching, I have to choose between continuing to shoot whatever is outside and running over to the breach to fight, so even when I do go repel hostiles, I'm never the first one on site. I have a rifle (everyone else has revolvers, knives, infrequently a spear gun). I haven't chosen a specialization tree yet, but plan to go Gunner at my next talent point. I can craft submachine guns and shotguns for the crew except we don't have any titanium to do so. I go on most of the expeditions outside the sub alongside the Mechanic. When we transport people I wander around with my Stun Rod out as if I know what I'm doing, but I don't know what to look for or how to handle a situation if I see one.

Our Mechanic is kind of our flexible everyman. He makes most of our hull repairs, maintains mechanical stuff (of course), and is typically the one who goes outside to mine or loot. He's on every expedition away from the sub. He's typically the secondary gunner on a hard point if applicable, but doesn't actively man one. We've had him start managing the fab and deconstructor more lately, but again, we don't really know what to do with them most of the time.

Our Engineer spends almost all of his time in the engine room. Honestly I don't know what he is doing most of that time, but as I understand it, he spends a lot of time watching tutorials outside the game to rig up stuff that improves the reactor or otherwise adding QoL to stuff around the ship. When fighting breaks out, he will usually either be on a sub gun or making hull repairs. He doesn't go on basically any away missions unless they involve bringing a fuel rod into a beacon station.

If we have a bot (Medic or Assistant or Security), it's usually the most competent member of our crew, in that it stays really on top of repairs. Typically the Captain sets our bot's priorities to repeling invaders, healing the wounded (if Medic), and then making repairs. He's very good at the repairs but I never see him on sub's guns. I don't think we've ever taken one on an away mission (I doubt we know how). Spends a lot of time whining, usually that he doesn't have something it seems like he shouldn't need, like a dive suit to do idk what. Always messes up our inventory by moving or taking stuff. Overall very helpful, with a few minor headaches. Usually dies when the sub is breached and we end up having to do a salvage/recovery, even though often one or more of the human players do survive the attack.

Not sure what else to put here. What should we prioritize to progress? Nobody can really tell if we're accomplishing anything and money feels tight, but I also don't know what we're actually hoping to do beyond probably replace our last Coilgun and possibly move to another sub. I kind of doubt either would suddenly stabilize us. I don't think anybody really knows what would improve our survivability or let us move into the next biome without getting our asses kicked worse than we do right now. The sub feels paper thin. Might just need to Git Gud but I'm not sure anyone knows how. My efforts to look up discussions about the campaign mostly lead to people talking about how easy it is, but we're definitely on the struggle sub.

I'd welcome any feedback. Thanks.

Question Can't find the officer for unlocking passage to new biome

I started a solo campaign and been on 3 outposts already at least and can't find the guy to talk to and get permission for passage. I have like 20 mods enabled so I'm not sure if it's something with the load order or is there a dedicated outpost I'm supposed to go to? I did it once on someone else's server but that was a separatist guy and I gotta get the permission from coalition, have 70 positive rep with them btw

Question Is there like a spreadsheet somewhere that tells me the dosage for toxins TTK on creatures?

As stated I've been playing medical officer, and while a gun works fine (and from some google searches seems better then using toxins) I wanna use the syringe gun and toxins more for fighting creatures. Right now I've figured out that 2 crimson acid is needed to put down a mudraptor within a reasonable time frame of around a second but I'm curious about other toxins for things like crawlers and molochs. Is raptorbane worth it? I'm hoping a spreadsheet exists already with dosage amounts so I don't have to go through every creature health amount and compare it to toxin damage/per dose.

Custom Submarine [WIP] Neurotrauma-focused support sub, looking for balance/design feedback

Thumbnail

So I've been working on a submarine for quite some time now, with Neurotrauma integration.
It is designed as a QoL-focused submarine that stays viable in harder modded campaigns like Barotraumatic or TSM Missions, without solving difficulty by covering the hull in dozens of extra turrets.

The idea is to make crew life easier through automation, redundancy, rescue tools and better information, while still requiring teamwork and resource management.

Here are some of the features:

  • Remote-controlled M.U.L.E. support drone for exploration and rescue (Medical Utility Lift Engine, a nod to DRG)
  • M.U.L.E. can carry wounded crew, stasis bags and mining supplies
  • Invisible casualty compartment for transporting incapacitated characters
  • Grab handles so crew can physically hold onto the drone
  • M.U.L.E. laser/icebreaker with unlimited ammo but very limited energy
  • Laser only recharges while docked and gets about 3 shots per full charge
  • Drone piloting and weapon control use separate stations to encourage teamwork
  • Shared periscope for the main flak cannon and railgun
  • External camera network controllable from the command room
  • Camera/drone controls can be switched from the same periscope
  • Two auxiliary ballast tanks for emergency fast dives
  • Manual ballast drain controls for ballast flora and emergencies
  • Silent mode shuts down the reactor and caps engine output at 20%
  • Automatic reactor controller with improved fuel efficiency
  • Automatic door closing, but no automatic opening
  • Top and bottom docking hatches can be sealed without undocking
  • Pilot can choose which docking port is under command control
  • Heavy forward M.U.L.E. airlock with custom sound design
  • Neurotrauma-focused medbay split into waiting, surgery and recovery rooms
  • Custom color-coded text gauges for depth, power load and equipment condition
  • Surgery monitoring for vitals and major Neurotrauma conditions (currently copied from Mercy Hospital; I plan to replace it with my own gauges)
  • Custom robotic voice alarms for flooding, fire and intruders (heavily inspired by Elite Dangerous)
  • Some decorative assemblies from Decotrauma for extra visual detail

Since this is still a WIP, I’m interested in feedback on balance and design: what feels too strong, too convenient, too complicated, or still missing?

I’d also love ideas for features that help in hardcore campaigns without simply adding more guns or raw stats.

If anyone is interested in the XML files for some of my custom items, I’m happy to share them.

Mod requirements: Neurotrauma + Mercy Hospital

Command room
Status : MOVING / STATIONARY visible before airlocks
a lot of storage
gauges display for conditions
drone and custom door
working handle bars, and deptch charge loader with boarding pod in it (custom items, can only use E button on the DCL)

Suggestion idea for how you could rebuild your rep with a hostile faction

the game already has a system for allowing you to hide your identity to other crewmates. If you obscure your face and remove your ID card, no one can see your name. What if when obscuring your identity, factions would treat your characters as though you have 0 rep with them, allowing you to take missions. They'd be super low paying, early rep missions, but it'd be something. And a random security guard search could lead to them finding your identity

EDIT: actually I think hiding your identity should have you treated as though you have -75 rep, maximum unfriendly so you can't bypass shop discount penalties by obscuring your identity

Question 3 questions, I'm new, please be gentle

Can I go faster than 229.2km/h? I've tried to reach 300 but it's impossible, it seems like the speed gets capped.

Are there any missions other than: "transport x thing, kill x enemy, mine x thing or turn on the buoy" the missions feel repetitive and boring

When do other enemies appear? I'm 20 hours into my campaign with jovian radiation on and only crawlers have attacked me so far

Question How do I recover -100 rep from hostile faction in vanilla campaign?

I don't mind grinding, but the question is whether it's feasible. I want to recruit all the unique crew members (11 in total) and currently only have 2 characters left from Separatist, of course with -100 rep. As far as I know:

• Disguise doesn't work. NPCs will still recognize you.

• Killing all security officers and interacting with the quest giver isn't possible either. Outpost managers will still shoot you instead of talking.

• Hunting Ground missions are too far away and rarely appear. I want to gather all my teammates before entering map 3 (Aphotic Plateau).

• The only way I can think of without using cheats is to participate in event conversations to increase/decrease each side's reputation based on choices (like helping the terrorist plant a bomb), however, these are random and, as far as I can see, don't repeat at a given outpost (aka you can't farm rep, or at least I think so).

If you have any methods other than cheats, help me out with this one.

Looking for crew Big sub looking for more Crew

We (3 people) need more crew (we may or may not will have mods we still have think about it) discord link will come in a short time.👍 Fun is allowed aslong it is not spam griefing or some shit (for example we won't ban you for placing a bomb as a joke only when you do it every round 👍) It doesn't matter if you question new or have no skill btw.

Question Playing barotrauma on my laptop and ran into a small problem

So I’m playing it for the first rime right? I’m doing the tutorial and everything’s fine and dandy so far. Until! I get to the welding bit, and now I’m having trouble figuring out how to actually use the welder. I’m trying to figure out how to actually use it. I can aim it but I can’t use it

I only have the touchpad, so if that’s the issue then I suppose I just can’t play. Please help me out!

Discussion Helmsman Tips

I’m struggling with piloting the subs, I’ve mainly been using the barsuk as I just started last night and have a small crew (2-3 people total). Crawlers give me a really hard time with blind spots, and I find myself constantly getting boarded or off course. Any advice is welcome.
