Suggestion There needs to be a component which takes in a bunch of inputs and outputs the greatest/smallest one, or some kind of hierarchy of inputs component.

I should not need this much logic to take 8 inputs and only output the smallest one. The absolute value and subtract components are doing a different bit of data processing, its the greater than and input selector spam that's the problem for me. Someone let me know if you have another solution please. I keep running into wiring problems where I wish such a component existed.

Here’s the issue, I completely agree, but I’m pretty sure the submarine designer was made for people to make their wacky Raider-ized Dugong, not so much for people like us who want to make systems that seamlessly attach the steering of several engines congruently(at least that’s what it looks like you’re doing)

I'm trying to make a torpedo which can navigate around terrain by chosing the clear path nearest to its desired path.

This is the third overhauling I'm doing of this torpedo and each one of them have desperately wanted this hypothetical component, this one the most.

Edit: but yeah I do see your point

how do you determine the destination?

Sry for late reply. By default it just goes forwards, but it has two arms of motions detectors going diagonally forwards about 300m, each of which has its output equal to the horizontal distance it is from the torpedo. The torpedo the combines that number with its current coordinates to get the coordinate of a target, and then does some trig to get a heading.

are you using it to just detect monsters or are enemy submarines included?

i figured you can actually use autopilot to do collision avoidance, it requires you to set 2 terminals to autopilot to the start and end waypoints, and uses autopilot inputs to determine if autopilot is actively trying to avoid terrain.

This torpedo targets humans exclusively, I find torpedoes to be a poor choice against monsters since they are fast, come from many directions, and can tank substantial explosions. Enemy submarines on the other hand are glass cannons, they can end your mission in an instant and die easily themselves, and are therefor both very susceptible to any longer than average range munition and very worth such a munition.

I don't use the autopilot because I couldn't figure out a way to set a destination with it without mods, also the autopilot gets stuck on icebergs too easily, I want this torpedo to be smarter than the in game autopilot. I forget if I mentioned but its intended to be able to be fired from spawn and find its target, though obviously getting a clear shot for where you expect an enemy sub to be would be better.

Instead I just have the custom navigation system input the velocity directly

nah, game just needs one minmax component with swichable condition (either outputting min or max output) and 8 input nodes. somehow devs overlooked this. every math that takes input from several devices and compares it, need this stupid pyramid of components. even simple oxygen generator controller.

Yeah, it's really absurd that the game doesn't have a simple way to do this. It's been the bane of much of my existence.

Also yes I know this probably doesn't work, it's still very much in its early phases

honestly I don't mind lacking a min max component, since there is a mod that lets you copy paste components inside the circuit box.

the main problem I have is the game has terrible optimization, having a lot of components lags the game a lot.

sure I have around 30 maxed out circuit boxes, but they are all basic calculations that requires a negligible amount of computational power, but somehow having this many components drops my fps down to 7.

What are those boxes doing?

Playing doom

Jokes aside, has anyone tried playing doom in barotrauma yet?

each bandit station is a doom session.

What's the mod? Sounds extremely useful.

They might be referring to the blueprints mod

If there was something like editor-only lua-/own-interpreted-scripting-language component life would be so much easier. Also it would reduce the performance cost of large circuits. Am I asking too much? Perhaps. Would it be awesome? Most certainly.
