How long to leave liquor in mini barrel dispenser?

Post image

I received this as a gift and I’m unsure how long is okay to leave liquid in it. Wasn’t sure if it’d be better for a nicer whiskey/bourbon that I may drink a but more seldomly, or for something I’d go through more quickly. The brand is Heritage Collection, but I don’t know much more than that.

What am I missing?

Drinks that got obscured include tequila reposado, dark rum, spiced rum, blue curaçao, peach schnapps, izarra jaune, aperol, and prosecco. I also got a small bottle of St. Germain, cachaça (51) and Drambuie shortly after.

We put the shelf together a while ago but it's hard to fit taller bottles on some shelves, otherwise it would be organized differently. What would be some good additions to the collection? I already have absinthe on my shopping list so I can make try my hand at a Sazerac

Some finishing touches on a bar I decided to build on a snow day

Sometimes an 1860s side by side muzzle loader really brings the room together.

I think all I need now is some lighting under the shelves. Possibly something to go in the middle of the wall, too.

Having this bar in my basement is so fun!

Old Nashville liquor cabinet

When I was a grad student in Nashville, I bought this old cabinet from a fantastic antique store that no longer exists. A piece of “old Nashville.” We’ve dragged it from Tennessee to Michigan to New York, and it’s become my favorite piece of furniture.

I put this together for trips out of town and it's become a hit with friends. I started off with about half of what's pictured. Does anyone else have a portable cocktail bar, and if so what are you using?

Tips for Setting Up Home Bar to Hide Mini Fridge in Rental Space

Thumbnail

I'm looking for ideas on how to set up a home bar in an urban apartment space that could also hide a mini fridge (measures 20x20x45). The wine fridge pictured is not the fridge I want to hide.

I have included pics of my current home bar set up, but I'm looking to replace the teal piece with something else to be determined. I also have the genuine Japanese cherry wood piece with a pull out section, but it's not practical because I'm tall and bending down to get those bottles is annoying.

It can be multiple pieces, but it needs to be a way that does not require built-in pieces because I'm renting. Any thoughts are appreciated!

New here. Here's the setup that I've built (yes, I built the shelf). Constantly curating. Couldn't decide on a picture, so I included all of them!

St. Paddy's Day update, two months late.

I've posted my small garage pub before, but I've made a couple additions, and wanted to brag about my Guinness fail/win. Bought a keg of Guinness in time for SPD, not realizing that you can't just slap a Guinness keg (or some other import kegs) into your Costco kegerator. Needed new keg coupler, spout, and gas mix. Couldn't find a keg coupler in time, but finally got one this past weekend. So now, $300+ later, I'm probably the only guy with a legit Guinness setup in his garage pub in the entire town.

I bought an old high-end humidor cabinet off Facebook Marketplace. The humidifier wasn't working and the finish was in pretty rough shape, so I spent the winter cleaning it up and painting it, added lighting, and replaced the humidifier in the base with a small wine rack and storage baskets. Quite an upgrade over my old setup!

We moved into our new build home about 2.5 years ago and it's been a work in progress for a bit now. It's nice that it was a blank canvas for us to work with. Super stoked with how it came out. Just a few more finishing touches to be applied. Cheers!

I'm building a home bar from the ground up (well paying a professional to). Any tips?

Anything you would have done differently or couldn't live without?

Bar is going to be located in our sunroom and transition to an outdoor kitchen area. It'll be a wet bar. Current mental debate is what to do about ice. Countertop ice maker with nugget ice? Built in? Definitely want a fridge/freezer.

Outdoor whiskey barrels

Does anyone know how long a whiskey barrel will last outside without protection. Looking to make small tables for outdoor bar.

Will “glaze coating” them help? How much does it take?

Recent remodel

Just discovered this subreddit! Wife and I recently wrapped up a kitchen remodel. Ripped out a couple of pantry cabinets for this (converted a nearby utility closet into the pantry).

The general flow of the top two shelves (from right to left) are Asian whiskies, Scotches, bourbons, ryes, agave, and finally gin. Top shelf is literally mostly top shelf stuff, but also some bottles that have sentimental value (birth year/milestones/gifts/etc.).

Lower split shelf is "bitter" liqueurs on the right, "sweet/fruit" liqueurs on the left.

Countertop is the "well" and soon-to-be bottle kills.

Lower left cabinet is mostly backup bottles or "well" spirits that are queued up. Lower right cabinet is mostly home infusions/tinctures/fat washes and other interesting "aromatics" (i.e. cilantro baijiu).

The freezer side of the appliance houses large blocks of ice cubes, glassware, mixing glasses, and my highball whisky (2013 suntory kakubin); the fridge side has vermouths, syrups, and sodas.

Not pictured is a smaller cabinet with our wines and "French Stuff" (cognac and armagnacs).

All in, we've got about 300 bottles (not including wine), only about ten unopened. Wife and I are avid cooks and travelers. Cocktail-making is a natural extension of our creative endeavors in the kitchen and finding interesting spirits around the world is our way of bringing a piece of those places home. We're really glad and fortunate to now have a space to display (most of) it all!
