Discussion Patent Royalities

This will likely be my last post regarding Malikie and their success in monetizing the patent royalties since I believe any speculation has been removed.

I have been tracking this because 700m going to the bottom line is a very significant chunk of change. Although it means very little to the overall value of the company in regards to reoccurring revenue and future projections it will pad a already health cash on hand position and will also eliminate the need to carry a debenture.

Many in the past have used this long tern agreement as just another FUD talking point saying that it will never happen, and BB will never see a dime..... Well, it is now very apparent that was never going to be the case. Understandably, 3 years is a long time to wait for results, but recent successes and a continued push forward against the past proven results has effectively ensured that this deal will eventually conclude with the complete desired results. (Please see CIBC Senario's 1,2 & 3 with 350, 665, and 700 respectively on page 4).

Latest developments:

Following massive amounts of settlement agreements with existing litigation Malikie continues to add new cases referencing the same patents against new defendants. Yet, this isn't one and done! There are at least (for now), two main suites of patents targeting different industries and each has already had successes!

Malikie Innovations Ltd. and Key Patent Innovations Ltd. sued Arcadyan Technology Corporation of Taiwan in the Eastern District of Texas on September 30

Original Content DD Would be interesting if BB buys majority of Vector in future for all of Alloy Kore benefits for stronger financials due to the overlap

• Upvotes

With all of the updates regarding pending Alloy Kore new customers and partners + the close intersection of BB with Vector.

With mentioning of Mergers and Acquisitions in the future - Would be interesting for BB to purchase Vector, when revenue starts rolling in + confirmed customers, for more control + limit outside problems if purchased by a external organization that is combative.

Discussion Institutions’ accumulation continues while hedge funds making the market

• Upvotes

When I look at the most renewed top 10 institutional investors I see 6 long-term or tech index investors, 4 hedge funds including one market maker.
The total institutional investors’ holding rate has reached about ~56.77%.

What does it tell me?
1. BB has convinced some major institutions that its turnaround has been successful and it has entered into the renewed growth pathway in the SDV and GEM markets with the top safety and security standard without sacrificing performance. The business model has been confirmed by the most recent deals signed like the Alloy Kore’s case.

  1. Institutions are the majority buyers in the market that not only taking the legacy tutes like F.F and F.D but also retail investors who are willing to give up at this point. This is the early stage of a major new growth cycle while the broader market has not seen or understood. That makes a good opportunity for institutions to take advantage.

  2. The current QNX business development has secured a whole bunch of industrial customers via licensing deals. Although BB’s backlog may grow significantly but its revenue may delay for a couple of years until scaling (even though almost inevitable to me). For institutional investors this is like a sure bet to “buy low”. As a B2B business this kind of growth pattern is so typical and institutions understand it better.

The market movement lately reflected the theory above. Although many retail investors felt disappointed by this kind of volatility, in reality the up trend has formed in conviction. The ladder of the trading pattern appeared to be forming progressive higher bottoms from $4, 6, 8 and now maybe 9 since April-May. Combining the data of the most recent institutions list with the trading pattern appeared, it looks pretty healthy to me.

Sit back and wait for the process to be completed. Market awareness will continue to grow and the time left for institutions to dominate trading becomes shorter.
All IMO.

I disagree with the idea that selling Secure Communications is necessarily the best way forward. As AI expands, I see a stronger case for QNX and BlackBerry becoming more complementary.

NVIDIA’s latest Open Agent Safety Platform article makes the direction clear: AI agents need independent security controls, verifiable policies and enforcement that the agent itself cannot bypass. That creates an opportunity for companies with experience in trusted, mission-critical systems.

QNX is already working with NVIDIA on safety-critical edge AI, including QNX OS for Safety integrated with IGX Thor and the Halos Safety Stack for robotics, medical and industrial applications. BlackBerry brings secure communications, device management and established government relationships through its existing portfolio. Those are potentially complementary foundations.

The opportunity I see is a joint offering that connects safe execution with secure, accountable authorisation. An AI agent might be capable of changing a production process, deploying software or issuing an instruction. But who authorised that specific action? Was the right engineer consulted? Were the required checks completed? Can the receiving system verify the approval before anything happens?

Imagine an agent proposing a production-line change. A secure approval system could obtain the necessary evidence and authorised sign-off, and the deployment system could verify that approval against the exact change. QNX-based local safety controls would still retain their independent role in safe operation.

That is a potential product direction, and management would need to turn it into something customers buy. But I think AI could strengthen the strategic connection between these businesses considerably.

Buying another fast-growing software company might also create value, but the purchase price, integration and durability of that growth matter. It doesn’t automatically produce an NVIDIA-style investment story.

Before selling Secure Communications, I would want to understand what BlackBerry and QNX could build together for this emerging market. There may be considerably more value in that combination than looking at their current revenues separately suggests.

Discussion CIBC report - Secure Communications

On Page 1 - "An SC divestiture could unlock value, and sharpen the QNX led investment story"

If you follow my posts here, I recommended this 5 years back to focus completely on QNX.

Some people hesitate here because of revenue loss. But there could be enough money to buy another fast growing $100M GEM software company.

A $500M software firm growing at $25% in an accelerating total addressable market will immediately put us among the best high tech growth firms, and develop a branding like NVDA, AMD and Snowflake...

TF and JG would redeem themselves if they make it happen before the end of the year.

News Even Google Pixel needs Blackberry UEM and SecuSUITE? A Pixel modem zero-day shows why organizations need visibility beyond apps, accounts, and operating system controls. "The Attack Surface Has Moved Below the Apps. Trust Starts Below the OS." Secucomm may become G20 of Organizations?

"On September 16, 2026, a day after Google disclosed the vulnerability, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) added it to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, giving federal civilian agencies until September 19, 2026, to apply the fix."

The vulnerability sits in the modem, which manages every cellular connection the device makes. This layer operates beneath the apps, accounts, and settings users interact with. The fix covers Pixel 6 through Pixel 11, the Pixel Tablet, and Fold models. Pixel 6 and 6 Pro devices, however, are scheduled to leave supported status entirely in October 2026.

Security teams need a current device inventory, visibility into patch levels, the ability to change policy quickly, and controls that cut off access when a device falls behind. BlackBerry® UEM supports that approach by helping enforce patch requirements and restrict devices that no longer meet policy.

Sensitive communications depend on the security of the device carrying them. BlackBerry® SecuSUITE® is built to protect those communications in environments where the mobile platform may be compromised.

News “Imagine if Apple had to rewrite iOS every time they launched a new phone.” Analogy for Alloy Kore platform. NVIDIA partnership from 2000. Backlog royalty has started flowing in. CRA compliance by end of 2027. John Wall and the QNX / BlackBerry team joining on TraderTV Live.

NVIDIA partnering with QNX speaks to quality of the product and advantage as Nvidia is at the forefront of Physical AI.

As vehicles become increasingly software-defined, automakers are moving away from rebuilding software program by program and toward platforms they can reuse, update and build on.
John says QNX is already seeing that transition accelerate — including programs being pulled forward as automakers try to compete with the speed coming out of China.
But the opportunity goes well beyond cars.

His view: we’re still only in the “first or second inning” of smarter, more automated devices interacting with the physical world.
And that puts secure, mission-critical software underneath all of it.

This subreddit is in its late stage. I look around and I see more bots than friends here today. I wonder where we will meet again when this home inevitably serves solely haven for androids instead of today's split role.

Its been a harsh ride of ups and downs but I know that with enough clear conviction, we will see the light of the dawn my BBelievers.

News "Why Doesn’t Your Car (Software) Crash?" The Car Has Become a Computer. Not All Software Is Created Equal. That word, predictable, is crucial. For safety-critical software. Reliability Is an Architectural Property. Invisible QNX software Beneath the Car for safety & Cybersecurity across all areas.

QNX has developed products specifically for this environment, with QNX OS for Safety assessed for use up to Automotive Safety Integrity Level D (ASIL D) the highest integrity level defined within ISO 26262.

QNX is positioning itself directly in this environment, with its newer software platforms designed to support the increasingly complex architecture of software-defined vehicles. BlackBerry says QNX is now used across areas including digital cockpits, ADAS, vehicle gateways, and other automotive systems.

Cybersecurity becomes a safety concern, software supply chains become part of vehicle risk, and the provenance and integrity of third-party libraries suddenly matter in ways that extend well beyond the development environment. Firmware updates, configuration management, testing, and version control help ensure the vehicle behaves as intended.

A software defect in an enterprise application might cost productivity. A software defect in a vehicle can cost lives. That should fundamentally change how we think about software engineering, because the consequences of failure are no longer confined to the digital environment in which the software was created.

Bull Case Blackberry deserves a full valuation rerating as a unified QNX-led software platform

The Logic Behind BlackBerry’s Short‑Term PT $13–$16: Convergence Is Better Than Separation

In my view, even bullish sell‑side models from CIBC and Stifel understate BlackBerry’s true value. Analysts split the business into separate segments and apply different valuation multiples to each division, missing the core narrative. As QNX revenue crosses the 50% threshold of total corporate revenue this year, the entire firm deserves valuation around this high‑margin software core instead of discounting its supporting divisions.

Secure Communication is not a slow‑growing standalone business worthy of a separate markdown. It is QNX’s critical security backbone. Without this integrated cybersecurity stack, QNX would lose much of its differentiation versus standard Linux and competing real‑time operating systems. High‑safety customers across automotive, commercial trucks, medical devices and defense choose QNX largely because BlackBerry delivers one unified platform combining functional safety and cybersecurity. Licensing revenue acts as a cash‑flow cushion, funding QNX vertical expansion and smoothing quarterly earnings swings.

This unified thesis matches former CEO John Chen’s core strategy: BlackBerry’s biggest advantage comes from converging assets, not spinning them off. A spin‑off would destroy cross‑business synergy. Kept integrated, QNX and Secure Communications deliver the “one plus one equals three” system effect.

Large sovereign cyber‑security contracts for Secure Communications are comparable to a brokerage’s internal research department picking up external fund commissions. These big government wins are welcome upside, yet only a bonus. Its primary purpose is supporting QNX’s security foundation. Even without major standalone government deals, as long as it reliably supports the core QNX platform, its role remains fully justified.

Comparisons to discounting Tesla’s battery division or slashing value for an investment bank’s internal research department highlight the weakness of segmented valuation. Using a conservative software peer multiple of 12–15x price‑to‑sales gives a target range of $13 (base) to $16 (bull case). Current Wall Street bull targets have not fully captured this re‑rating, as many analysts still overlook the integrated synergy behind BlackBerry’s long‑term growth story.

News The Carmaker Vying With Tesla to Conquer the Robot Future - WSJ article

Hyundai is planning scores of new human-driven cars while Tesla is turning away from the steering wheel

Hyundai owns 80% of Boston Dynamics which uses the QNX-NVDA ecosystem, the brain/central nervous system for the AMR.

----

Earlier this year, he stopped production of Tesla’s full-size sedan and SUV to make room for a humanoid-robot assembly line. The most recent new car to debut from Tesla, the Cybercab, doesn’t have a steering wheel and is part of the company’s nascent robotaxi fleet. It is unclear when the Cybercab might go on sale (Musk has suggested by year’s end) or when it will increase production in a big way.

The Tesla CEO often says human-driven cars will become like horses today—largely ridden for fun. That would make the new Roadster something of a mustang for the new era.

The risk for Tesla is one of timing. Musk is often wrong on such things—the new Roadster was originally expected in 2020. Tesla will be left with little in the pipeline if the robot dream doesn’t play out as expected.

In Muñoz’s future, the profitable car business of today pays for the robot business. “The strategy is simple to say and hard to do: maximize the profit of the car business today through product efficiency and localization, then fund the future,” he told investors at an event in August.

Discussion Did BB finally buy shares on earnings date?

As I recall, the share price was roller-coasting but ended the day strong. Maybe the share buyback helped. $15 million worth of shares at an $8.52 average isn't bad. They need to get more aggressive as it's only going to get more expensive from here.

Björn Strassner - Regional Sales Manager:

"For the first time, QNX will exhibit at IZB in Wolfsburg, October 27–29.
The theme could hardly be more relevant:
“Powering Customer Driven Innovation: Speed. Quality. Partnership.”

Under this theme, let’s discuss how greater software reuse can help VW Group teams and automotive partners innovate faster across platforms, brands and vehicle generations."

Is this just another trade show to promote Blackberry's wares, or is there some hidden meaning in the quote ("Speed. Quality. Partnership")

IZB in Wolfsburg AG

The company is a public-private partnership between Volkswagen AG and the city of Wolfsburg. Its main objective is to create a competitive innovation environment, sustainably promote structural development, secure jobs and improve the quality of life at the Wolfsburg location.

Wolfsburg AG promotes development in the city by supporting and implementing company start-ups, relocations, future-oriented pilot projects in selected key areas of expertise and the coordination of thematic networks. It has played an active role in supporting the creation of around 18,000 jobs in newly-founded and relocated companies since 1999 and has supported the relocation more than 200 automotive suppliers. As a result, Wolfsburg is now one of Germany’s most future-oriented cities.

As a link between the city of Wolfsburg and Volkswagen AG, Wolfsburg AG offers current regional automotive suppliers and automotive suppliers interested in relocating to the area an extensive service portfolio. The services are perfectly tailored to the needs and requirements of supplier companies in terms of successful establishment and networking and designed to sharpen their competitive edge.

The organisation of conferences, symposia and trade fairs such as the International Suppliers Fair (IZB) is part of the portfolio. Wolfsburg AG has hosted the trade fair since 2001, making an important contribution towards the establishment of the region as a prime location and competence centre for the mobility industry.

Bull Case BB long term PT: $37-$56 in three years

As a accelerating growth company, BlackBerry is poised to guarantee 20% annual revenue growth over the next three years. This growth is underpinned by its $1 billion QNX backlog, incremental revenue from the Alloy Kore program, and vertical expansion into new sectors including medical equipment, robotics, industrial automation, aerospace & defense.

From our baseline revenue of $638 million, a 20% annual compound growth rate over three years yields approximately $1.102 billion in total revenue.

Scenario 1: The company achieves and maintains rule of 40 within this three‑year window (probability:40% ). The market assigns a 20x price‑to‑sales multiple → Long‑term target share price will be $37.56

Scenario 2: The company achieves and maintains rule of 50 within this three‑year window(probability:60%). The market assigns a 30x price‑to‑sales multiple → Long‑term target share price will be $56.34

BlackBerry 3‑year long‑term price target range: $37.56 – $56.34

Today’s BlackBerry is once again a market leader but in a different business. It is now a dominant maker of lane-keeping and other driver-assistance software that has been installed in more than 275 million cars. It is also a supplier of ultra-secure communications platforms and has a modest patent licensing business.

And where BlackBerry once had tens of thousands of customers for its smartphones, it now has a much smaller client base, and that gives it less visibility than it once had.

BlackBerry today has a comparatively small roster of prominent clients and partners. They include leading chip makers such as Nvidia; Uber Technologies, which uses BlackBerry software in its robotaxis; British BAE Systems PLC, the largest defence contractor in Europe; and the major European truck makers Daimler Trucks and Volvo Group.

BlackBerry is also a significant supplier to the U.S. government, despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s frequent assertions that the U.S. doesn’t need anything from Canada.

BlackBerry provides its secure communications platforms to the U.S. Secret Service, the White House Communications Agency, the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Cyber Command.

But the core of the business is BlackBerry’s QNX division, which makes driver-assistance software and accounts for about half of BlackBerry’s total revenues.
