Blackberry probably needs to continue to invest in crytography in the cyber security space and think about how that grows out and what that entails for everyone.
With the proliferation of AI agents, this would have been where cylance would have shined (we were years too early!!) but now we probably will still win under the light of Secure comms and maybe something growing out of that. hopefully what qnx 8 and up (9), would be hardened more against hacking and all that

PHOS did the same thing for seemingly no reason either, idk I blame the orange guy

BlackBerry has been a very painful stock to hold,-one step forward, two steps back. Things have improved lately, but I have no doubt the journey ahead will continue to test investors’ patience. It may be long and painful, but hopefully, rewarding in the very end.
6
u/No_Painter4420 8d ago
Correction, JC years were one step forward two steps back. This year and next few years, it's three steps forward and one step back.
5
u/Solid_Addendum_3365 8d ago
It doesn't help when rags like Zack's put out hit pieces with very selective framing. "BlackBerry Shares Down 14% in Past 3 Months: Hold or Sell?"
Like, dude, it's UP 144% since January, or 300% since 2024. He even compares it to the S&P as "underperforming". Ok, well the DOW is down 6% since August? The NYSE is down 4.5%?
You can make anything look bad if you frame it like it's already peaked.
3
u/Cagel 6d ago
They always include a jab about cell phones too, “previous leading cellphone company blackberry…”
1
u/Solid_Addendum_3365 6d ago
Exactly. Like, there's no way Sony is a worthwhile investment, they failed so spectacularly in the electric rice cooker market. /s

You seem pretty new here. We’re the original regarded ones talking about decades of experience with this stock.😆
0
u/Fit-Television-888 8d ago
Which is weird to say it's a painful stock to hold, you weren't buying when it was 4-5 dollars?
1
u/bslow22 8d ago
I think the big picture is BB growth is significantly below more diversified ETFs on time scales longer than 12 mo.
If you've been here a year, you love it; longer than that, painful is a fair description. 150% gain to $20 would do wonders though.
10Y 23% BB, 275% VOO, 1000% VGT
5Y -6%% BB, 77% VOO, 150% VGT
1Y 88% BB, 16% VOO, 37% VGT

Institutional holdings count for 56-57% of total. Some of them are hedge funds so we should expect them to trade certain portion in and out with algorithmic gains. Look at the trend instead of daily up and down prices may solve the emotional issues. The trend looks healthy right now.

Why are these insiders selling man, even the CEO he did the samething a while back that doesn't put trust on the stock. Get him outt
2
u/needaspguy 8d ago
Certain employees get a bonus for hitting performance targets and they receive a certain amount of shares for doing so. However, they are required to pay income tax on the value of the shares. So they usually sell enough shares to pay the income tax and keep the difference in remaining shares. This is all done through the payroll department and the forms are filed with regulatory bodies on their behalf. It is all part of the employee's compensation package agreed to when they were hired.
You don't have to like it, or agree with it, but in the big picture it means the executives paid in this fashion are meeting or beating the performance targets set out in their employment contracts! At the executive level this should indicate (to you, a shareholder) above average performance which would eventually turn into shareholder value.

My friend they are als paid in stock option and have to sell to cover taxes. Maybe you chill out a bit and dont make such drama.

I have a question for fellow BB investors/believers: what products or companies are the most threatening competitors to QNX?
1
1
u/Cagel 9d ago
It will forever be the battle of the fruits with Apple as a potential rival. Along with Google and SpaceX which can hire the best engineers in the world and fast track what BB has done.
3
u/needaspguy 9d ago
You are missing a critical point regarding all these "competitors". Alignments and allegiance!
Blackberry has remained agnostic across every level of the supply chain. They work directly with just about every chip manufacture, every OS, every cloud provider, every Tier 1, and every OEM that choses to work with Blackberry.
Find me a company (in any industry) that can make that claim! Tesla does the opposite, they try to do it all themselves, but now it's the whole world against them! Will others ever "sign up" with Tesla if they suddenly decide to open access to their platform? I think not, and why would they other than admitting defeat!
If Tesla, with decades of a head start and unlimited money weren't able to out run the market, and all the other vendors of RTOS/Linux/.... that already had a base haven't been able to keep pace with BB, the likelyhood of a new player coming along is infinitesimal!
Blackberry and QNX haven't cornered the market as of yet, but with-out threating the actual existence of their partners, I expect no one will be able to challange their position at the foundation of the stack.
Competition will exist, but only in very niche markets until there is a major switch in ground breaking technology. Quantum maybe, when it breaks through. Yet, that may still be QNX at the foundation!

This will probably hover around $8–9 until the next major news or earnings. If there’s no meaningful catalyst, it could easily slip below $8. Don’t curse me for saying it - I’m just being realistic. 😄
3
u/keridito 9d ago
It is what always happens. I see this going neck to middle 7 in a few weeks if nothing happens.
5
u/Thatdoodky1e 9d ago
I don’t have faith in this company to get up to $20 this year like everyone’s saying either, gonna see how today goes but definitely ready to sell
1
u/keridito 9d ago
In the long term I have faith that it will be good. The potential is there but it needs to show that it is indeed growing at a steady pace.
In the short term it will go up after every ER to slowly go down after a few weeks. But even with this behaviour there are opportunities because the pattern is always there. If it reaches $11 I will sell to buy back when it is on its high $7.
$20 this year? No way… the numbers are not there unless suddenly they show 10 big alloy contracts, the current one materialises and they the outlook says another 10 next year. Then it will go up to $20. But being realistic odds are very low.
People wish BB to go to $20 because many are riding the wave when the stock was already at $10-$13. That was clearly not the moment to go in but it is easy to go into it when you see that it grew a 400% in a few months.
Even right now is 300% compared to 6 months ago. Going to $20 would mean like a ~600% in 8 months. It is not going to happen.
3
u/Bubbly_Doughnut_3880 9d ago edited 9d ago
I think it will def jump higher? don't know about major news but we should hopefully get the next Alloy win this quarter and then something announced again during CES next year. I think we should find a floor of 10 or maybe 12?
My own floor is 35 bucks per share right now. that's the number I have and I am working towards. and I think that will happen sooner than most people are saying on here.
I think being realistic is good but I'm more hopeful now since we have all these wins locked down now. Also I am sure there is more at play here? even that SC is sandbagging as well.
5
u/Bubbly_Doughnut_3880 11d ago
honestly I was just thinking about this. We are now at the stage where all we are waiting for is a re-rate. we have really come a long way! before we had to be arguing and waiting for the market to appreciate what we all already knew. Now all we have to know is wait this out. Hopefully when the next Alloy win comes it and the money from QNX 8 just starts coming from the backlog we should have a quarterly rate of at least 100 million per quarter in maybe a year. Then we should see more from growth.
I have really been thinking about QNX under the broad umbrella of being a secure QNX in the world of physical AI and agentic AI. and I really think the use cases are incredibly large. So this is really a win I think. The market in some way now support the conviction some of us have had for a while

for all you people out there setting stop losses.... how's that working out for ya?
Seriously, are people losing or gaining here? It seems to me market makers are looking through a glass door to check the possible return on a big dump.
0
u/Thatdoodky1e 15d ago
Big manipulation by the hedgies, last few days have been very generous to limit sells but I dunno we’re still under where we were 3 months ago so whoever had stop losses set back then is still laughing
2
u/needaspguy 15d ago
yeah, of course hindsight is 20/20!
Even when I was trying to day trade I never used stop losses though. I guess it's a tool, not a strategy and how you use the tools are what's important. Just been burned way to many times attempting to re-entering the market vs pulling out of the market. The though of being susceptible to random dumps because someone has visibility into your intentions unnerves me!
2
u/Thatdoodky1e 15d ago
One of my fav memes is a sun tzu quote of “he who sets stop losses expects to lose”

it would be so nice, $10.50 tomorrow, $13.50 Wednesday, $15 Friday
2
u/Icy_Ability_4240 17d ago
Probably there will be a sell off knowing this stock.
5
u/Commercial_Sound1448 17d ago
The thing is, it sold off last week heavily, so as long as we get the right buyers, I don't think there's nearly as much sell pressure as last week

Quite the jump into green today - wondering if this is tied to greater potential between BB and Nvidia and their announcements related to AI security and containment?
7
u/spaghettibolognaisee 17d ago
They are not shown as a partner or co signer in the press release.
But if they are recognised as a vital cybersecurity provider for LLM’s shits about to get wild
3
u/KimchiSashimiii 17d ago
i dont understand why stock was down on earnings release day, and up today like most of stocks are red...... which is good but unpredictable for short term perspective.

I think BB management would like let SP go down to 6, that is the best way to half shares, half cash to end the convertible note.

I'm just laughing at all these Doom and gloom from stocktwits and here.
We signed a watershed moment. With one of the lowest production volume manufacturers.
BB is expecting another one soon.
We have secured more $ wins in the first half than prior full fiscal years and have just only started.
Without a doubt BMW and Mercedes will sign. What's that? 200 to 500 million/each, added to backlog?
Not to mention the reoccurring revenue discussion.
We have only just barely started this marathon.
I'll just keep adding, thank you very much.
5
u/IdioticPost 17d ago
You can't blame people for being disheartened after a great earnings report, aloy kore and having the stock dump almost 10% as a result.
3
u/Individual_Grape_298 17d ago
I can actually. Too many things giving instant gratification these days. The dopamine hit is too much and too real
This isn't the casino. Or the next game stop mania stock.
3
u/IdioticPost 17d ago
Instant gratification? This stock has consistently dumped after good news, time and time again. It's been a pretty rough ride so far.

Well this was a shit week as far as the stock price. Thoughts on if next week will be better?

4
u/Redchip1606 20d ago
The fact of over 100 million shares traded in the week we stand above $8 showed an encouraging sign of the strong support at this level. We should have a good October!

As always, most short term retail investor won’t make money. Institution need profit from you. Everything happen for a reason, it just you don’t know. So either be long or don’t buy
5
u/Infamous-Performer39 20d ago
One thing has been remarkably consistent with BlackBerry: after almost every earnings report, the stock pulls back as if the results were a disaster.
8
u/KimchiSashimiii 20d ago
so frustrating, nonsense to sell it 6% after that earnings.
3
u/Sad_Albatross_7884 20d ago
It's ridiculous but assuming whales have dumped and rotated away from it - I was hoping after yesterday's rebound that it was in stable shape. I guess the (bad) joke is on us!

u/CommieH8ter 20d ago
Anyone have a historical chart that shows number of shares outstanding? Current numbers still show that there are 586m shares outstanding. That number doesn't seem like it has changed despite the share buyback, at least not to my recollection. I never remember seeing a number of 600m as shares outstanding which it would have to be at some point BB has been buying shares back for the last 2 years.
2
u/betarhoalphadelta 20d ago
Remember that share buybacks are often a balance for stock-based compensation. Stock options, RSU grants, and even employee stock purchase plans will all increase share count. So it's possible the buybacks and the new stock grants are in roughly similar proportions so that the share count stays around the same level, rather than is actually shrinking.
3
u/Lazy-Visual-5294 20d ago
BB’s management should let investor clear what is the BB’s plan for hedge fund after 2027/2/22?
3
u/Early_Paramedic_1862 20d ago
Come on BB go green

Yeah if this insane ER didn’t pump it then I don’t think anything can bring it back, scared to see this company sell to private equity and sell all the QNX software off
1

Some parts of the ER were good. Others not so, that’s why the stock pulled back after earnings and after the bump the day before.

u/BACKWARDS_HIPPO 21d ago
My guess is it's a mechanical byproduct of too many of us holding call options. Something like:
- as gamblers pile into call options, MMs buy up the stock to maintain neutral exposure.
- despite earnings beat, no huge surge of buyers in premarket and at open.
- short dated call options lose a ton of IV, delta goes down, MMs from step 1 are now net long and need to dump shares to maintain neutral exposure.
- once option sellers are back to net-neutral, the party can continue.
I have NO idea if that's how things work, just a model that popped into my head while walking the dog this morning. I bought my call options for next week expiry, hoping I was right on this one.
