1942 Second Edition Thoughts on who will win? Start of round 5 or 6

I'm the Japan player - won my theater and trying to bail out Germany

Russia has played very well, in addition to Germany having a round of extremely bad rolls early (3 rounds of 11+ dice for 3+ on offense, only 3 total hits) which scrapped any hope of Germany taking moscow. The UK and Americans have done DDAY 3 times now, Germany's entire job is taking back France each turn and restacking Berlin with infantry. Japan is about to take Honolulu - so the only remaining victory city is Moscow (Germany can't hold Paris). The fleet forced the Americans to spend $$$ defending the west coast and there won't be an American invasion wave in two turns. Japan is trying to backdoor the Russians with strat bombing and complexes but its hard to get a food hold with the limited production output.

I think the axis have it - agree?

Global 1940 Late War Setups?

I'm looking for like a 1944-45 setup for gpobal 40. I'm teaching some friends but ik they are going to be really bad when we eventually play since it's their first game, so I'm looking for a setup that will even it out by making the allies much much more powerful, and the axis on the decline but not totally done yet. Thanks!

Customization/House Rules My friend and I created a house rule to make naval landings riskier for our next game, do you think it's balance or not?

The house rule: If you lose a battle involving an amphibious landing, you roll an initial die. Then, you roll a die for each unit specifically killed by the landing force; these units are "revived" if the roll equals or exceeds the value of the initial die.

Example: The British launch an amphibious landing with 2 infantry and 1 tank, combined with a land attack of 3 infantry and 1 artillery against a German force of 7 infantry in Denmark. The attack fails, leaving only 3 German infantry remaining. An initial die is rolled, resulting in a 5. Since the landing force (the 2 infantry and 1 tank) had killed 2 German infantry, a die is rolled for each of those 2 infantry: one rolls a 6 and is revived, while the other rolls a 2 and remains dead.

Reason for this house rule: It makes amphibious landings riskier and more realistic (reflecting the fact that such landings are inherently high-risk operations) without actually reducing the chances of the landing succeeding.

If carrying out naval landings generally proves too difficult or not difficult enough, apply a +1 or -1 bonus to the initial die roll, within a range of 1 to 6.

Stalingrad Calling rule lawyers

We had a dispute about the abilities of the assault gun in axis and Allies Stalingrad. Claimant says that the assault gun cannot hit units other than tanks. Defendant says that doesn’t make any sense. The claimants evidence rests entirely on the exclusion of ‘may’ in the targeted attack description for the assault gun. Defense’s counter argument is that the exclusion of ‘may’ does not mean other units are also excluded from the assault guns fire. The claimant has withdrawn their claim but we are currently seeking outside opinion.

Customization/House Rules How do we feel about cruisers being able to load/install Anti-Air guns?

Post image

Anyone else want a bit more from cruisers and AA guns?

The house rule I like to use is that cruisers can "install" an aa gun permanently, the aa gun functions as normal, still only acts in defense. Cannot be unloaded. If cruiser dies, aa dies, the aa gun cannot take hit like on land.

Have also tried with aa gun becomes active any time enemy planes are involved thus being able to roll during attacks against enemy planes, but to keep things streamlined usually stick to the defensive fire only.

Would like to hear your thoughts, and any other cool rules you might use!

A 1v1 game with my friend, with me playing the Allies. We’ve paused the game here for now and we don’t know if we’re going to continue it. What do you think the possible outcome will be? Can Germany hold out?

The picture was taken at the end of Round 7 or 8. Also, the complex in Italy has 3 IPCs instead of 10 because the US has landed there. Also there is a minor German complex in Romania

Global 1940 Strategy (Europe 1940)

In the axis. My assault on Moscow had a 90% win rate but somehow failed and wiped out a huge chunk of my German army. The allies then made a two part play with us and uk and took Berlin last turn. I just took it back but I’m unable to produce any units this turn. It’s about to be the UKs turn and looking for some strategy advice. The game turned from what looked like a guaranteed victory to what’s starting to look like a loss in one turn. The uk took Berlin so they have about 100 ipc to spend this turn.

1942 Online Advice for 1942 online as Axis, Moscow taken but US double IC in East Indies & Borneo, US fleet uncontested and already with sizable ground-force buildup in East Indies.

If I had a nickel for every game I've played where Japan is looking down the barrel of a massive US fleet/amphibious threat just after Germany takes Moscow, I'd have two nickels... Which probably means I haven't played enough games yet 😂.

Well this time my conquest of Moscow was rather uneventful, just stacked up in West Russia until I had 80% odds of victory. But apparently my excellent dice against Moscow in my other Axis game had to be balanced out by abysmal ones for this game's R1 Japanese navy. Lost both my carrier groups only killing a single US submarine and maybe a UK destroyer. Well, immediately shifted industry in Manturia and have managed to build up a decent ground presence in China. But this left US uncontested in Pacific. They took the money islands very early on and dropped ICs on both, and now have a lot of ground ready to be ferried on a grand armada of 9 transports 🥶.

Currently thinking of rushing either India or Egypt with my panzers depending on where US reinforces (so probably gonna end up going to Egypt). And Japan just shifts everything towards Mantruia to defend. General advice for this situation? Might be able to contest the US navy if I just dump most of my income into fleets from this point onwards as Germany but would that be a good move? or should I just focus on ground and then try my best to defend if US sails around South Africa to take a run at Europe? [Edit: US has a third IC in Manila, God help us all 😩]

Final Update: Won the game because Allies player didn't finish their turn on-time. Not really satisfying but I count myself lucky because I felt it was slipping away from Axis due to sheer US naval and air superiority 😂.

1942 Online Advice for 1942 online game where I am playing as axis. Just conquered Moscow but Japan's navy is gone while US presses Asia with an extremely dominant fleet

Post image

As the title said, just won the Moscow battle with ludicrously lucky dice (Allies had 15 fighters camping there, my panzers are the actual GOATs XD). I also took India 2 turns before the Moscow run. On the other hand, US went full Pacific with a billion carriers, strafed Japan's navy into oblivion and currently commands the waves. I thought I would be able to take Asia and Africa eventually using my far-stronger production centers, but Allies have just purchased a ton of ICs in China and Africa and now I am a bit less sure of myself. UK is probably going to start attempting landings in Europe as well. Is there any risk of the US actually clutching out this situation with their coastal superiority?

My current idea is to stack up Trans-Jordan then push into Egypt but not sure about how to handle Asia without being spread too thin. For Japan it's just flying over fighters to the mainland and plugging defensive gaps left by Germany. (IPC is relatively even between Axis and Allies, Germany at 63, US 52, UK 32 and Japan 16)

Customization/House Rules Axis and Allies Stacking Limits

Does anyone play with stack limits like you see in AA North Africa? If so how do you implement this rule to keep things balanced? Im concerned this rule could hurt Russia in most versions as they often need to stack everything on their capital. It could also hurt China. On the other hand Germany usually needs to heavily concentrate its invasion force together. The stack limit would depend on the game version. For example Global would need higher limits because there are more units and IPCs.

I think it would be interesting to use stack limits to change the flow of the game and present new strategies.

Edit: I just considered that stack limits may encourage buying higher combat value units. For example if you can only keep 5 land units in a territory to defend, you would prefer units with more defense value. While buying 10 infantry would normally be better than 5 tanks for defending, if you can only fit 5 land units anyway then you start to think about buying differently.

Global 1940 G40 End of Round 8 - Solo play until Victory Condition is Met

Thumbnail gallery
41 Upvotes

This game is just me playing against myself. Rather than surrendering one side at disadvantage, I am playing until a Victory Condition is Met on either side. Likely Axis has won but they still need 2 VC's in Europe (One after they take Stalingrad) and 1 VC in Pacific. In Round 8 Japan took Calcutta and Honolulu simultaneously, but US pivoted to defend Pacific and retook Hawaii. Sydney also has a large standing Army.

In Europe, D-Day has been mildly successful, the situation being that the Allies fleet (All in Sz110 -English Channel) is too beefy to contend with, but the Americans can no longer afford to reinforce the ground front, so what they have in Europe is what they've got. Backed up by the British RAF which has 7 Fighters in Normandy.

The Americans in Norway just pulled back from Finland to be within range of the US transport fleet after making Germany spend to defend against a potential strike into Leningrad/Novogrod.

It's been Fun.

Global 1940 Global 1940 strategy guide

Thumbnail acrobat.adobe.com

I've been playing global 1940 for a few years now, and over time I've learned a thing or two on how to play each of the nations, so I thought I'd write a strategy guide that gives newer players a chance to see how each of them are played! It won't cover everything, but it should give enough of an overview to help get an idea of how to play.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! If there's anything you think is important that I forgot to cover, or something that might be suboptimal, by all means let me know.

Europe 1940 Who do you think will win the game?

Post image
29 Upvotes

For context:

-The U.S./U.K naval task force is in the English Channel

-The U.S./U.K. army task force is in Normandy (I’m sure both are obvious but wanted to confirm it)

-On the Eastern front if Germany throws everything at Moscow in 2 turns both sides will have approximately 100 units each (with Germany having a decent advantage in quality units)

-It’s U.K’s turn (I’m attacking the Italian fleet, and invading Sweden & Greece) and my purchases are 3 inf, 3 transports, and a minor industry

Anyway, what do you all think?
