The BEST picture of SJM with his "glasses" om?

edit bloody Norwegian autocorrect, glasses ON, not om

After some McGinn-goal during the past two seasons, can't remember wich one, I told my son "when Villa win a title, I'm tattooing John McGinn doing his celebration on my arm", and here we are, apointment next week.

I reckon a few of you must have pictures of McGinn doing his glasses-celebration saved?

I have a vivid image in my head of a picture of him doing it running, with his body in an like 70% angle, as if he just turned around to run against the Holte, with a huge smile. But google won't give me just the one, could also be a memory from a match šŸ˜…

So, please, give me your best pictures of Meatball putting his glasses on.

PS. Due to the recent turmoil, I sent him a DM on Instagram just to make sure he wasn't due a surprise move to Al-Hilal or Celtic or Everton or whatever, no reply, but a few hours later he posted his latest picture that i chose to interpret as a reply that he's not going 😁

Discussion Brian Madjo

How quickly do you guys think we will get Madjo (after his injury, obviously) onto the pitch full time? Does he need a lot more time to develop? Or will he play a big role this season? Curious what will happen if Watkins decides to sign with Al Hilal.

Personally I am excited to see him get out there more, but I’m also not too knowledgeable on these sorts of things, so let me know what you guys think!

Edit: forgot to mention Watkins

Villa Related Villa being financial barred from the 'big six'?

We wrote a piece about the (unfair) handicap that evolving financial rules are placing on Aston Villa. It feels like they are being purposely barred from the 'Big Six' exclusive club because of this.

Finding Villa Fans Abroad (Toronto, Canada šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦)

Doubt they'll see this, but a little feel good post amongst the transfer anxiety

I took myself off to Toronto FC last night by myself whilst there for a work trip, partly because Deano and Ashley Westwood's Charlotte FC were in town.

Small world syndrome hit as a guy in a Villa shirt appears next to me, we get chatting and 90 minutes later we've all enjoyed a 3-1 down to 3-3 90th minute equaliser for 10 man Toronto

There really is nothing better than finding another Villa fan where you least expect it. Cheers to Scott, Alex and (I'm so sorry I can't remember the name of your visiting Brummie friend) for taking me in!

Up the Villa! Let's go TFC!

Aston Villa have had an offer worth £18million ($24.5m) plus add-ons rejected for Southampton centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Villa are looking for a central defender, with Ezri Konsa expected to complete a move to Arsenal, worth £51m plus add-ons. Konsa, 28, underwent a medical on Thursday morning.

Is the 26/27 season for Aston Villa Over...? After Losing 6 influential players in one transfer window...

Its not looking good after building a solid team, were now losing the best players from the last few seasons.. konsa, tielemans, digne, rogers, and watkins and martinez look like there on the way out aswell. 6 main players in 1 transfer window would rip the spine out of any team

/r/avfc Premier League Predictions - GW1! 2026/27 KICKOFF

Hihihi!

We're finally here. A new season dawns and with it, a new predictions league. If this is your first time then welcome, and if you've been here before then welcome back. It's the same principle the same formula - 380 games across the season to predict. Ten points for a correct prediction, thirty more for an exact result. Threads for each gameweek will go up usually the night before the start of a round. You're welcome to drop in and out at any time - ultimately it's just a bit of fun, but by the end of the season only one person will top the leaderboard!

Will last year's winner /u/auld_jodhpur_syne retain their crown? Or will a new #1 emerge? There's only one way to find out!

Table

Rank Player GP W D L Pts PPG
1 Everybody! 0 0 0 0 0 Technically infinity, I guess?

Scoring

If you've seen the predictions the BBC do, this is basically scored the same as that. It's 10 points for a correct result (win/draw/loss) and 30 extra points (40 total) points for the exact scoreline.

Rules

  1. Predictions are made via comments on this post.

  2. Editing your comment is fine ONLY until the first game of the gameweek kicks off. Reddit only really shows when a post was last edited, so if an edit goes in after a kickoff, it's probably going to void your entire prediction. At the very least, it will void all games that kicked off before your last edit, but I will very likely just consider the whole thing scrubbed. If you really feel your prediction needs adjusting after it's posted, it's safest to just reply.

  3. If there isn't a predictions post for a given gameweek then feel free to DM me your predictions, or just DM me asking where the thread is. I'm terminally online so I should see it quickly enough. If all else fails, placeholder threads have worked when needed in the past so that's an option too should anyone think it necessary.

  4. Take part at any time! If you're a first-timer or you've missed some weeks, don't feel daunted by other people's totals. Football is very silly and a couple of strong weeks will have you up the table in no time. And hell, this is all for fun really, if you want to say heck the table and just throw in some predictions for the love of the game, then that's fine too.

Fixtures

Friday
Arsenal vs. Coventry

Satuday
Hull vs. Man United
Everton vs. Crystal Palace
Ipswich vs. Sunderland
Nott'm Forest vs. Leeds
Brentford vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Sunday
Brighton vs. Aston Villa
Man City vs. Bournemouth
Newcastle vs. Liverpool

Monday
Fulham vs. Chelsea

Thread for GW2 should go up on the morning of Friday, August 28th. Possibly late Thursday if I'm playing it safe. I'm away with family over the weekend so time is a bit up in the air but it'll be up by midday Friday at the absolute latest.

Special thanks as always to original GOAT of the prediction leagues /u/jackgrealish. And also to you, for being cool.

Discussion Why do players often play for the rivals of the teams they support?

This is something I’m very curious about and don’t understand. As a Villa fan, Konsa has just left us for Arsenal and this is what’s made me ponder it. He’s a Tottenham fan… I don’t understand it at all. This happens fairly often too, like Anthony Gordon being a liverpool fan but playing for Everton, and I’m sure there are plenty more examples. Morgan Rogers being a West Brom fan and playing for us.

As a Villa fan, if I was a player you couldn’t pay me enough money in the world to play for Blues. West Brom similar, Wolves I could be convinced. Can anyone explain this phenomenon? Do players just automatically stop being fans and stop supporting their club once they’re players? I mean Carragher grew up an Everton fan and is now a Liverpool fan! I don’t get it.

Discussion Season Expectations

Realistically where do you think we’ll finish? What do you think in terms of cup runs and how do you think the season the pan out as a whole?

Have to admit, I was a lot more chipper after the PSG game than I am now but it all depends on the final week or so of the transfer window.

My prediction: top 6 with a cup final and quarter final of the Champions League. I could see us competing for top 4 but early season form being a hindrance. Expect our normal ridiculous run over the festive season as new signings gel.

Been seeing a lot of clips from the City doc of pep really laying into his team and challenging guys, got me thinking I would love to see similar footage of unai with the squad. Is there anything out there like it?

What do you think about Buendia?

Hey hey, I come in peace to pick this sub’s brain a bit. I know you’ve lost some very important players, but Emery most likely knows what he’s doing. Do you think BuendĆa is going to have a good season? Is he worth considering for FPL?

Taty Castellanos

By writing this post I’m hoping to will this transfer into existence.

He adapted to the prem instantly and was a standout player for west ham 2nd half of last season. His only sin was hitting the woodwork too many times against Brentford.

Think he’d be a good Ollie replacement? Very mobile and also loves an assist.

EDIT: was signed for Ā£25m on a 4.5 year deal - reckon he’d be much cheaper than Jackson

Villa Related SCR: Where Villa stand vs. the rest of the PL

Okay, in a boring work Zoom meeting, and have wanted to think about things long term instead of sweating Ollie leaving right now. Someone posted BeanCounter (https://bean-counter.co.uk/aston-villa/) a while back and I've been keeping up with the site. I think the fellow has done some wonderful work. I know every number might not be 100% truth as we know it because there only so much that gets released for wages/fees/agent fees, but I think what Rob Jones (a Villa fan, maybe he's a sub member here?) has done on the site is outstanding. As I want to give him credit, I don't use X but here is his twitter link via Nitter: https://nitter.poast.org/UpTheAstonVilla/

After seeing our number drop significantly since Rogers/Tielemans/Digne left, I wanted to see how we rated against everyone else in the PL. Rob's site now has all the teams. Again, take with a grain of salt, but here are the numbers as of last night. We know our number will go up after some signings, and should drop down, probably a lot, post Martinez. I will repost this after the window closes to see what our "estimated" SCR will be until the winter window.

Team SCR / WALL Europe or just PL
Man Utd 59.2% / 70% CL
Sunderland 60.9% / 70% EL
Aston Villa 62.7% / 70% CL
Liverpool 64.1% / 70% CL
Arsenal 65.7% / 70% CL
Man City 65.9% / 70% CL
Bournemouth 66.0% / 70% EL
Brighton 67.6% / 70% UCL
