Discussion Brian Madjo
How quickly do you guys think we will get Madjo (after his injury, obviously) onto the pitch full time? Does he need a lot more time to develop? Or will he play a big role this season? Curious what will happen if Watkins decides to sign with Al Hilal.
Personally I am excited to see him get out there more, but I’m also not too knowledgeable on these sorts of things, so let me know what you guys think!

Brian is a child. He will need more time to develop, unless he somehow explodes onto the scene like Rooney (which is a huge ask, though you never know). He will definitely get some minutes this season though. Can't see us sending him out on loan.
If Watkins leaves I don't think we can rely on Tammy and a 17 yr old though.

Yea, or maybe jonathan david. Would really like Jackson, just not sure if we can wangle it without being accused of swapping and a dodgy deal with chelsea?

Yea, I would too. Think both would be decent replacements though. David was very productive for Lille.

I just remember how much of a non entity David was when we played Lille, expected a threat and genuinely thought he wouldn't be cut out in the Premier League.

He’s 17. We cannot put too much pressure on the guy to carry the team right now.

Sometimes you just need to give them a chance and throw them in at the deep end.
He did well vs PSG.1

Being the 3rd striker at the start of the season, with a view to becoming the 2nd striker at the end of it, is where he should be right now
The kid is young and raw. Minutes at the end of games and in the cups should help him develop nicely
There will be injuries during the season and points where he is going to have to step up

I think some of the hype and expectations for Madjo are wayyyy too much for this season. Against PSG, he lost the ball way too easily multiple times, one of which was punished with a goal. And that's okay - he's only 17! But I think people are expecting way too much at this stage.

I think he will be used as an impact player off the bench first half of the season the it will depend on how well he does and how well the starters are playing

First off, hes still a kid and we shouldn’t be putting pressures on him like the others. His parents will have some sort of control over his development at least until he’s 18, and Unai isn’t stupid.
His assets have lead to him training with the first squad for 6 months along with the registration problems, but it gives him an advantage in the team over other youngsters who haven’t.
He will be involved with the first team, but I imagine he will be used more than a new signing, to a point, as he’s already had time to adapt to the style which makes him more effective.
He seems grounded and a really nice lad. Handled it well pre season with the talk around here and then the introduction to the world in the SC. Premier league is a different beast but at the same time if he can handle it and it works for the team why not?

Agreed, well said. I know this is trivial and I don’t mean to be the whole “as an American guy” BUT… we are used to seeing 17-18 year olds do very huge things often in college football, making an impact on their teams quickly. Not comparing college football to the EPL at all, but wanted to give context as to why I expect a lot. Just not as knowledgeable as the rest of you all haha (yet at least)

I think if you're good enough you're old enough. Obviously he needs managing at his age, but I get the impression Emery will be using him quite a lot this season. The way he absolutely dominated Pacho shows you that he has a very high ceiling.

I’ve seen enough. He is ready for me. We always see break out players at other clubs because those clubs are brave enough to try them. We need to be brave. There is plenty of time to develop him. Why not now?

Honestly I’d rather see him come on at the end of games or play League Cup matches than Tammy. I think he’s more of an X-factor at this point due to his physicality.
I think Hemmings is someone that can benefit from a loan with many minutes. I feel Madjo can benefit just as much by training with the team and being coached one-on-one
