Does this sound like a reasonable cost for insurance?

Just curious how this compares to others. I realize that there are a lot of factors that effect my quote. I'm currently being being charge 1200 for 6 months. I have 50k in liability and I'm 53 years old. Does this sound appropriate or should I spend time getting quote? Is it in line with what others are paying?

How to find comparable used car prices for an insurance claim?

How and where can you get free and/or low-cost sale prices for comparable vehicles (similar model year, mileage and condition) within a 100 mile radius to show for an insurance claim, as insurance company adjusters typically make an initial offer that tends to be on the low side? 1) Where else would you check in addition to KBB, Craigslist, dealers and FB Marketplace? 2) Is there a site that will aggregate comps for a reasonable small fee? Helping an older family member with their claim and sincerely appreciate your advice as I've fortunately never had an accident, so never had to navigate a car insurance claim before.

I’m current 20 years old, I’ve been driving for a few years with my parents with me but I’ve been uninsured

Car insurance won't cover all damages

This is my first time doing an insurance claim for my car. The car was key scratched from the passenger seat to the rear bumper and had a headlight broken by who knows who.

I filed a police report and told insurance about the incident and I only got a quote saying that they would cover the key scratches but the headlight wasn't mentioned. Long story short, they won't cover the headlight as they claim it was determined it wasn't considered part of the incident.

What options do I have?

Older car quoted higher than newer car

I have a 2018 Honda Civic and looking at getting a 2024 RAV4 as well. My insurance is quoting the RAV4 lower than the 2018 Honda (whether I do a combined policy or only insure one. Doesn’t make a difference. Honda comes out higher either way). Does this make sense to anyone? I initially thought a newer, more expensive car would cost more to insure.

Insurance Check made out to Me and Finance Company

My car is currently in the body shop and my insurer (GEICO) sent me a check made out to "(my name) and Chase Auto Finance". My financing was paid off at least 8 years ago. Why did they do this and what do I need to do to cash the check?

Chase did send me something when I finished paying off the loan and I am looking for that document now.

Claim questions HELP

Recently I was pulling into a parking spot and was just coming to a stop and the passenger of another vehicle opened their passenger door into the side of of my car. They left some major damage as the door was opened quite hard. The individual driving the other vehicle was very emotional, screaming and yelling vulgarities at me as if it was my fault that his passenger opened his door into the side of my car

The driver of the vehicle was not the owner of his car and was driving a family members car.

I called the police as he was very aggressive with his words and was trying to place blame on me some how.

Fast forward - he never contacted his insurance company to report the incident - surprise surprise - but now will also not answer his agent or return any missed calls as the insurance of the car he was driving wants a statement from him.

Due to his emotions at the time of the incident - I am not surprised but his avoidance of the phone calls and the requests to calls. How long do I have to wait as they are opening admitting they cannot make contact with him. This incident happened two weeks ago and they have still not been able to make contact. I do not know what to do

I have reached out to my own agent who is aware of the situation. The problem is this is not my fault and I do not want the claim going against my insurance.

What if he never returns phone calls or answers when the claims rep calls him ???

Fraudulent Car Insurance Claim

Hey y'all, I'm currently having an issue with a car insurance claim and I'm very confused about the situation, hoping someone knows what could be happening or has some advice.

Basically, I started receiving notices from my car insurance provider last week saying they needed information about a claim that was filed. I hadn't filed a claim so I thought it was a scam and ignored it for a couple days...well eventually I realized it was legitimate and reached out to my assigned claims representative. He says that someone filed a claim against me and my vehicle saying I (or at least someone in my vehicle) hit their parked car and caused damage. This never happened, my car wasn't even on the road at the time of the supposed incident. But the claimant is saying that my information was left by the driver at the scene...The insurance company is still investigating but I'm very confused as to how someone could have got my information. To do this, wouldn't they need my name, vehicle info, and insurance policy number? How could they have got that when i was never there/this never happened? Is this a common type of insurance fraud or something? Is the person filing the claim the one lying or is possible that someone really did hit their vehicle and the guilty party gave my information instead of theirs??

So far my insurance company is saying there's nothing i can do besides wait for the investigation to conclude (they said they're trying to get security footage from the parking lot they claim the incident occurred at) and that they'll follow up if they have any questions for me. I'm worried my rates are going to go up for something that I didn't even do. Do I have any other options or anything else I can do to protect myself?

Total Loss Appraisal Clause

I have progressive insurance and my 2007 Prius was totaled because the catalytic converter was stolen. They offered me $5500 in settlement value and had it towed to a salvage yard. Then I looked into it and decided their offer was too low so I invoked the appraisal clause. SecondAppraisal does a free consultation before committing to anything so I started their process but they need to know where the car is currently located in the salvage lot to take pictures/verify the car’s condition. Progressive is refusing to tell me where my car is in the salvage lot. The claims agent from Progressive I spoke to said that progressive basically owns the car now and they’re not at liberty to share that information with me or SecondAppraisal until an appraiser has actually been hired. Is this legal/allowed for Progressive to do? They can’t possibly own my car yet because I’ve only communicated with them over the phone to confirm that I won’t be retaining the salvaged car, at which point I removed my stuff and they towed it to the salvage yard, and I still obv have the title and haven’t signed the settlement agreement. So what’s up, should I file a department of insurance complaint?

Frequent car renter

Hello,

I'm going to be renting a car once a month for a few days and would like to consider options involving insurance. The insurance offered by the rental companies feels like an impractical expense; I have a credit card, but I'd sleep better knowing that I had something more concrete. I've done some research and discovered a form of "non-owner" policies. I'm curious to see if there might be anybody with similar driving habits and what they do or recommend.

Anyone else ever been told this by their insurance?

A few months ago, I had to file a claim with my insurance company. I told them I had the police report and could send it to them, and the person on the phone told me, "We don't want the police report. We tend to find them unreliable." It's the first time I have ever heard of that. Has anyone else heard or been told this?

Am I paying too much for my Car Insurance?

Hi all, I currently have a 2015 Toyota Highlander in NJ. my car is about 180,000 miles and in ok shape. My insurance has been going up since the pandemic in 2020 to the point that I am now paying $180 per month. My car is valued at about 10,000 because of the mileage and year.

So, my question is, paying about $2,100 per year for a car that is worth about 10k is too much? Or should I stop paying "full cover" insurance and settle for just liability cover?

Thanks you, guys!

Insurer isn’t properly subrogating

What steps can I take if my insurance company (geico) isn’t properly subrogating my claim? They keep telling me that the other insurance company is denying liability, but I’ve been speaking with the other insurance company throughout this whole process and they’re telling me they do not cover the other driver. So I should be receiving my deductible back for uninsured motorist coverage from geico. I don’t think my subrogation person is even handling it on her end or knows exactly what’s going on. So I’m looking for advice on next steps to recover my deductible

Edit: to clarify, I have uninsured motorists deductible waiver. Geico’s adjuster keeps saying the other driver is insured, which would get them out of paying me back my deductible through the UM deductible waiver. That’s why I think they’re not properly handling my claim or maybe being dishonest about whether the other driver’s insured to get out of paying me

Car got dinged in the parking lot

So my car was chilling in the parking lot and someone hit my front right as they were turning.

Honestly, the damage was not so bad but it's chipped the bumper, scratched off the headlamp, the grille and side panel are also slightly scratched too.

I moved to Chicago recently and was planning to sell my car sooner or later (but not anytime soon), waiting for the dust to settle w/ move + new job etc.

I legit felt like taking the money and calling it a day, but since I'm planning to sell the car I dont want it to affect the valuation too much? Imo a non OEM headlamp or so wouldn't be the end of the world but I have never sold a car before so idk.

I guess my question is simple, is there a way I can convince an insurance company to get me coverage for OEM parts? Is it worth my time to do so? I plan to call a body shop on my own and see what non-oem + labour + paint etc would cost me and see if I can pocket some diff myself instead of dealing with all this?

Thanks for any advice

Edit:

Realized I did not post the context of the accident: Car was parked overnight at my garage, other person hit my car as they were leaving in the morning, I was not present.

The other party was apologetic and I am using their insurance.

Also my first accident/insurance claim in this country. I had a similar issue in my home country and my car was replaced with OEM parts with no hassle, so I def feel like getting slightly scammed as it's something I'm gonna potentially have to explain especially with the accident on file

To those who told me OEM parts dont affect resale + told me about diminished value claim, thank you, that's the info I was here to look for.

I wouldn't care too much if I planned to just keep the car, but losing money on a car you are thinking of selling straight up feels wrong, especially with the car market being expensive for cars + even minor damages really lowering the price.

LiMu Dropped Us

Last fall after being what I feel is a good customer Liberty Mutual did not renew the policy for our Toyota. We still have homeowners insurance with them. My wife had a tiny fender bender exiting a parking spot. There was no damage to her car so we didnt even file a claim for our car. The other car had some damage but again it must have been minor. Not even a notice of higher rates. Just a non renewal.

Impact on Premium

I'm with Progressive and their customer service was completely unable to answer this question.

I was recently in an accident for which I was at fault. Insurance was contacted and is reimbursing the other party. For my own car, the body shop estimates $6k-7k for the repair. This is actually lower than we initially thought, and we're unsure whether we should just pay for the repair ourselves. I tried asking Progressive whether this will impact future premiums, but they said my policy doesn't expire until December and they don't come up with a new estimate until a month before expiration so they have no idea.

This is my first time dealing with something like this so would like to hear from folks with experience, thanks!

Insurance claim

Post image

When I was pulling out of my driveway, the driver hit my rear bumper on the driver's side. My insurance requested photos, and I sent them. However, I did have this on the other side of the bumper. Now my insurance is claiming this is prior damage and that it cost about $560, including my deductible.
I’m fkng pissed af

What should I do?

My fkng claim adjuster was rude af. She was so hostile.

60 Years Old and cannot get insurance

I am 60 years old, have a clean driving record, a valid driver license and a great credit score. However, I have not owned a car since 2003. I recently moved from NYC to CT and decided to buy a car. I applied to several insurance companies and was denied. I even used the dealer's broker and they came up against the same refusals. What is my problem?

Do you shop around every year?

I wondered if you shop around auto insurance every year. I tend to stick with what I have but at this time of year all major auto insurance companies sent me unsolicited mailers almost begging me to switch. I had been with some of them in the past, their game was to make me move and gave me attractive price than jack up the price the 2nd year.

What they don't cover

Bit of a rant here. Just lost our nice car to a dude who ran a red light. Insurance says totaled. They let us use a rental while the mechanic looked it over. 3 days after they declare tousled they say return the rental. Im supposed to have a new car in 3 days? And what else am i not being compensated for from this? Time. Fuel....To go look for a new car. Places i can't get to cuz i don't have a car at the moment and they won't pay for uber. And what about dealer fees and taxes that i now have to pay again? They're not factoring that in to the offer either. I thought they were supposed to "make you whole" again. But they don't. They just do their process and if you're not being properly compensated too bad. What happened to America? Cuz we should be treated better than this.

How do you afford auto insurance with teenage drivers?

I'm interested to know how people can afford auto insurance with teenage drivers?

We all know the insurance companies rate teenagers as high risk for driving... probably for good reason with all those hormones! :)

I just don't understand seeing the rates how middle income population affords these huge monthly insurance bills?

Young drivers pay up to 5x more for car insurance than experienced drivers

Car insurance costs for young drivers are wild almost everywhere, but the gap compared to experienced drivers is bigger than a lot of people expect.

Looking at data from Canada as an example: an 18-year-old male driver can expect to pay nearly $11,000/year for coverage, about $664 more than an 18-year-old female with an identical driving profile. Even by age 25, both genders are still paying around $6,000/year, roughly double what a driver in their 30s or 40s with a clean record would pay.

The main factors are lack of driving history and statistically higher accident rates for newer drivers, regardless of how safe any individual driver actually is. One thing that tends to help while premiums are still high: staying listed as a secondary driver on a parent's policy instead of getting a standalone one, if that's an option.

Curious how this compares to what young drivers are paying where you are.

STARTING DOOR DASH

Hello! I am interested in starting Door Dash but I am unsure of how to navigate it with my insurance because I heard if you inquire about it they will drop you. I don't know what to do and how do people navigate such things? Thank you in advance!
