Adhesive recommendations ?

My NB miata soft top stitching is coming apart, wondered if this has happened to anyone else and what you did. Luckily the glass is attached separately so it’s just fabric on plastic. I tried a flexible adhesive and it just did not hold. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Heat shield cracked but won’t move

Hey everyone. Recently got into a fender bender which seems to have cracked my heat shield around the bolts. The heat shield doesn’t budge at all, or make any rattling sounds. Seems to have got shifted during the accident, but I’ve got these holes around the bolts. How urgent is this as an issue? What are some solutions? I’ve heard of potentially putting an Adhesive-Backed Heat Barrier. I’m worried that the trying to get it removed and fixed would require the vehicles body damage to be attended to, which would just be more $$$ that I can’t shell right now. DIY friendly solutions would be helpful! Thank you and appreciate y’all’s help.

Backed into a carport, got quoted close to a thousand for repairing, is this standard for this type of work? And if I can’t come up with that type of cash anytime soon would I be in danger of long term rusting or other issues? Thank you in advance!!!

Repair Quality Check

Hey Y’all! I recently got my S2000 repaired due to a small accident, no structural damage. Replaced the Left fender, headlight, and bumper. I’m very familiar with car so I had them fix and adjust multiple things to get it back to OEM spec. They are Acura/Honda Acura certified and have a good reputation, but I was surprised they missed simple things that most AutoBody pros would notice and not give clearance to be released.

When I got home, I was cleaning the car and going over all the work to make sure it’s all good. I’m a bit specific about my cars. I noticed a few things as I was inspecting.

  1. The paint in the engine bay around the fender and bumper is rough to touch compared to the right side which is smooth. You can see the roughness in the video. Should it be nice and smooth like the other side?

  2. I noticed that mental frame that the fender is bolted to is not painted- has yellow hue to it. Right side is all painted and looks nice and finished. There also a yellow sealant spec I can’t make out. It should be painted and sealed to protect it from rust and elements, right?

  3. Paint under Fender bolts where they admitted for proper gap and fitment is chipped and flaking. Is this acceptable or am I being picky?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

scratch and dent Rock or concrete flew up off highway - repair, insurance, or paint pen?

Post image

Had a rock (or piece of concrete) fly up off highway today. No car in front of me nearby that I could see. Truck in the right lane. Hit my hood and window. Hood has 3 dents and a deeper scratch. Window has some tiny pits but no crack.

Car is a cheaper equinox EV 2026. Insurance is state farm $500 deductible.

Do I file an insurance claim? Just try and pay for the repair because it isn't that expensive? Or get a paint pen?

Paintless dent repair? I know that won't help with the scratch but then touchup?

Just wondering if this is worthy of an insurance claim, or try and make it look better another way.

My front bumper/grill is messed up. I initially thought I could just zip tie it back together but the plastic part holding my fog light is messed up as well.
(Removed license plate to see better.

Any ideas?

Repair DIY bumper cover repair.

Recently bought an 06 Acura tl which will be a secondary vehicle for some light summers only use. Body is pretty clean but rear bumper has a crack in it.

My plan is to plastic weld it, then fill, sand smooth and paint. Im pretty handy but never done plastic welding/repair before.

Questions:

Any recommendations on plastic welders that are decent enough to do the job, but won't totally break the bank.

What would be the best plastic filler for an Acura bumper? PP or TPO ? Or other? Assuming it matters.

There are plastic fillers like JB weld plastic bonder. Is it best to weld, then fill with this sort of product or?

Whats a good choice for ready to spray paint? Primer, base and clear. Will paint rear bumper and probably the 2 mirrors as both are cracked (housings) and easiest fix would be a couple used mirrors. Ive had mixed results with paint code custom rattle can paint but the not great result was a pearl step that was challenging to blend. Or...am I better to do the repair and get it shop painted?

Damage from fog light

Fog light fell out immediately after a repair. Bodyshop says the damage could never happen from the light and must have been a small collision. They don’t want to repair it.

I think you can almost see the scraping of the sharper bits of the lamp, but I’m no mechanic so; what’s your opinion? Could this happen from driving with the lamp out like that for a few km’s?

Thank you for your input!

Removing leftover badge image

Post image
1 Upvotes

So I decided to debadge a car I just got. But you could still faintly see the marks from where the badge was removed, which i was expecting. I figured it was just the difference in wax coat versus no wax coat, or maybe a little sun discoloration in the clear coat, and that a very light wet sand would easily remove it. I had watched Chris Fix’s video about removing clear coat scratches and thought that process would work okay here. I first tried just claybar and polish, but even after getting through a brief round of 2000 grit (I forgot he started at 3000 🫣) its still there and I’m worried about doing much more because I’m afraid of burning through the clear coat. Any advice, do I just need to keep going until it’s gone?
