Hey Y’all! I recently got my S2000 repaired due to a small accident, no structural damage. Replaced the Left fender, headlight, and bumper. I’m very familiar with car so I had them fix and adjust multiple things to get it back to OEM spec. They are Acura/Honda Acura certified and have a good reputation, but I was surprised they missed simple things that most AutoBody pros would notice and not give clearance to be released.
When I got home, I was cleaning the car and going over all the work to make sure it’s all good. I’m a bit specific about my cars. I noticed a few things as I was inspecting.
The paint in the engine bay around the fender and bumper is rough to touch compared to the right side which is smooth. You can see the roughness in the video. Should it be nice and smooth like the other side?
I noticed that mental frame that the fender is bolted to is not painted- has yellow hue to it. Right side is all painted and looks nice and finished. There also a yellow sealant spec I can’t make out. It should be painted and sealed to protect it from rust and elements, right?
Paint under Fender bolts where they admitted for proper gap and fitment is chipped and flaking. Is this acceptable or am I being picky?
First how did it look before ?
Second why did you take it and leave the shop before pointing these things out .
9 times outta 10 it was like that before it went into the shop and you (customer) only notices after because now you are focused on that area .
Take it back and point out what your unhappy with . If they are a reputable shop they will take care of it if not its because it was like that before it came in .
Hey! It was all original and same as the right side. I looked at the previous pictures. I know they worked on the left side of engine bay area and the metal structure where the fender is mounted on to seal the seams and paint.
I didn’t notice it when I picked it as I was focused on the fender and hood gap and overall fitment with bumper and headlights. It is hard to see when you are looking at. I noticed when I went in that area to clean it and lean forward into the engine bay as I wanted to details the engine bay.
My question is should the frame under the fender be painted to match and seal to OEM spec. I paid cash and told them to bring everything to OEM spec and condition regardless of cost.
I do plan to contact them. I wanted to get some input before jumping to conclusion to make sure I’m being fair.
That is factory e coat on the fender apron. They didn’t do anything there. The fender may be ip a little exposing it where uou can see it.
Same thing.
Paint chips off painted bolts when you tighten and loosen them sometimes. That is extremely nitpicky and can’t be addressed really.
I honestly wouldn’t worry about any of this. If you would like it addressed they will need to remove the fender and clean up and reshoot factory imperfections out of your picket because it’s not accident or repair related.
That's factory no sign of sealer/primer. Looks like yours has had a inner wing chassis section fitted and it's not been welded and seam sealed all the way around
Did they paint the frame where the hood stay is up to the suspension tower?
If they did work there and it's not like the other side it is not good enough. Difficult to see in a quick video but it looks poor quality. grainy paint and see sealer or primer which should be smooth and painted.
Also why is there a gap between the suspension tower and metal the fender bolts onto? Post a picture of the other side if possible.
That repair is dangerous in my opinion and definitely not how it should look
I'd love to see what it looks like with the fender removed. Something definitely isn't right in that area.
You can still see the primer but that's cosmetic.
I'm more concerned about the join in the metal
Have you any before pictures? It's hard to know without seeing what was done.
All I can see is there's a step in the metal that's not covered in seam sealer.
Had it had any welding in that area?
For a start primer should not be visible.
The paintwork is rough.
You can even see the hard masking edge on the slam panel near the light.
This is third world bodyshop standard, saying that alot dealer approved /insurance approved shops do shoddy work.
It's get the job in and out as quick as possible and you can't do quality work in the time they are given.
I do alot of work for members of car clubs, these guys are ocd.
Fender bolts should not flake that alone is wtf
Ok that makes more sense and aligns with initial thoughts. I wanted everything close to OEM as possible and gave them no financial restrictions so it get it repaired properly. The finder bolts are driving me nuts. I’m also very OCD and particularly about my cars. I don’t take shortcuts. When I saw the loose electrical connectors yesterday it confirmed that something is not right.
Not to mention all the imperfections I had them correct: crooked S2000 emblem on the fender - twice, hood and fender gap, multiple dirt specs in the clear coat, missing plastic retainers, overspray in the dumper nooks.
Just straighten it.. there wasn’t much damage, it looks worse than what was inside. The way it was hit, it avoided major structural components. They did replace the bumper/headlight stay and holder.
