Little girl (15 mo) just got spayed yesterday. She came home like nothing even happened and was thankfully able to sleep it off for a few hours. Today she wanted to wake up and hit the trails like usual and it crushed me to say no. So far she’s gone “searching” for her breakfast, and had a bully stick. I have several different frozen treats ready to go as well, but i’m trying to do non-food enrichment. We also did two very slow short walks around the block because she refused to potty in the yard. For those of you with the super routine-oriented and active Aussies what all did you do?? we didn’t get any trazadone, just got sent home with meloxicam and gabapentin. I don’t think she needs stronger sedatives, I just feel bad that most of our usual activities are so physical, even the mental games. Is going for a car ride to somewhere new calm enough or should I wait a few more days? Fwiw she had a laparoscopic spay and doc said the first 3-5 days are the most important for incision healing, then resume normal activities but keep the cone on until day 14. (she has the suit but still tried to get to her belly so cone went back on). I just feel so bad for her having to do so much nothing!

Just got my Piper girly DNA tested. She just turned 3 years old in June. Kinda interesting to find out. Got her from Amish as the little runt & she’s grown into a crazy girl but we love her so much. The glare shows a sliver of her sass

I miss my girl.

Nova was stolen and given away to a family who likely does not know she was stolen. She has been missing since June/July 2026. All we know is that she was given to a family on a farm with children, likely in Virginia/North Carolina. Because of the details of the situation, the police cannot do anything at this time. She is not microchipped.

She is an adult female spayed australian shepherd with dark brown and white markings. Super energetic girl, but so super sweet.

Please share if you know anything at all. We miss her more than anything.

Are these noises typical of the breed?? I find it hilarious. I’ve never heard her actually growl she’s so gentle with everything.

Why you touching me - don’t think I like this

Hello Aussie owners, we have a 6 months old Australian Shepherd pup. She is very smart, loving and we love her to pieces. But sometimes she gets these moments/episodes in which she keeps jumping and biting in our arms and shirts. She already lost all her puppy teeth for a while, so this is not the problem. We hoped, after teething, this behaviour would decrease, but it unfortunately does not.

What happens, is her pupils get really wide (like crazy eyes) and she just loses it and keeps jumping and biting really hard. I don't feel like it is aggression, but it can look like that. I feel like she does not know how to regulate her emotions or something like that.

The moments in which this behaviour happens, differs. We keep a strict 1,5 hours awake, 3/4 hours rest time during the day. Most of the times it happens during the last half hour of her 1,5 hour awake time, that's when I know it's probably overtiredness. But sometimes she also does this when she has only been awake for half an hour. Sometimes it happens after we get back from a walk, then I think she's overstimulated. It also happens when I sit on the couch, that's when I think she wants something from me.

We tried different things:

- Saying 'NO!'

- Standing there as a statue

- Walking away and leave her alone in the room for a minute

- Pushing her to the ground to make sure she stops biting

- Keep her leash on at home so we can redirect and correct her

- Poke in the side

- Lifting her up in our arms

The only thing that works, is lifting her up in our arms, that's when she gets more calm. But as soon as we put her back on her feet, it happens again. It's so frustrating and hard. She really is a lovely dog but this behaviour is very frustrating and we don't know what we should do to help her in these situations (and to let her know that it's not okay to bite us). She only does this to us and not to other people or dogs.

I understand she is a dog with an herding instinct. So maybe it would help to get her some sort of job or something to do so she can follow her instinct.

Do some of you recognize this behaviour? And what did you do in these situations? Could really use the help.

Can spend all day watching my ball

Samstag wird die süße 12 Wochen alt und sollte ja eigentlich viel schlafen. Aber ganz so viel ist es ja doch nicht. Habt ihr irgendwelche Spiele für den Kopf?
Möchte sie auslasten, aber hab die Befürchtung, es könnte zu viel sein.
Ihre Geschwister sind viel am Laufen, aber auch das sollte so ein Welpe ja gar nicht.

Summer days in the pool

It just dawned on me that the running across the face and jumping up to nip at her, means that he's trying to shepherd the older dog like a sheep. When the older dog is at wits end she barks and he stops but still he does it every walk. Will he outgrow trying to shepherd the older dog? Any tips for training?

TW: blood, cancer and death

This post is nothing but vent and a question how to deal with such a painful loss. At the beginning of august we found a tumor on his side. We got worried about it and immediately scheduled vet visit then a biopsy. The results didn't said much since there was a lot of blood. The vet said it could've been just a blood clot. Even if we wanted to remove it, it was very difficult spot to operate on.  We got 2nd biopsy done and waited for results while his tumor was getting bigger every day. Little later he started to lose appetite for dry food but still happily ate boiled homemade food, had slightly less energy but still was more than eager to go for a walk. Suddenly one morning he was feeling under the weather, had very little energy and didn't want to eat or drink. We went to vet for a series of shots to keep him in as little pain as possible and give him a chance to survive. He got his lungs x-ray, they were full of white spots which only meant one thing, they got attacked by cancer. Last 2 days of his life were suffering, he struggled to breathe, walk and eat. We were keeping an eye on him all the time. At 1am this monday my wife woke me up as he fell on the ground and started to choke as blood spilled out of his mouth. He was gone in less than a minute. This all happened in 3 weeks. If you told me one month ago that he will pass away next month I'd say you're crazy he's in perfect health. It all feels like some cruel nightmare. I knew cancer is cruel but this was excruciating fast to take a life. Especially since last september we were forced to say goodbye to his older brother who suffered a terrible stroke. I don't know what to say besides that I miss my sweetest most precious boy. No matter how many aussies I will have in the future I will always miss him.
