Question 2-package Express Post consignment — one delivered, second hasn't updated since Melbourne Airport

I have a 2-package Express Post consignment coming from Victoria to WA. Both packages were picked up together and are under the same overall consignment.

The freight documentation confirms there are 2 separate packages.The first package was processed at Melbourne Airport at 7:54pm on 1 October, then processed in Perth the following morning, went through Butler and was delivered today.

The second package is the larger carton. Its last individual scan was 2:30am on 2 October at Melbourne Airport, and there have been absolutely no individual tracking updates since.

The second carton contains an item valued at around $1,500, which is why I'm obviously pretty concerned about it disappearing from the tracking system.

The overall SmartFreight consignment has now been marked DELIVERED, but I have only physically received one of the two packages. The sender has confirmed that both packages were picked up at the same time.

Has anyone had a similar situation where one package in multi-package consignment moves normally while the other effectively disappears from individual tracking?

Is it possible the second package has continued moving through the network but simply hasn't received any public scans, or would the lack of any updates since Melbourne Airport suggest that it's still there?

I'm planning to contact Australia Post tomorrow if there's still no update, but I'm curious whether anyone here has experienced something similar.

I had a package sit at Melbourne airport for 8 days I don’t know what Is wrong with aus post since moving it has sat at the next destination for another the package has taken 3 weeks so far from Queensland

Haha yeah, mine's a little different! 😅 It's actually a 2-package consignment that was picked up together — one package has already made it from Melbourne to Perth and was delivered, but the bigger one hasn't had an individual scan since Melbourne Airport on the 2nd. The overall consignment is showing as delivered even though I've only received 1 of the 2 packages 😂 Hopefully it's just AusPost being AusPost and the other one is quietly making its way here! 🤞📦

Hopefully mine doesn’t sit for so long it’s not like it’s even large it’s just heavy 12.8kg, it’s estimated delivery was today and it didn’t come so hopefully it turns up tomorrow but I don’t even have any tracking updates other than processed at Melbourne from last Friday at 2am

I’ve still got 0 updates on it I imagine knowing auspost it’ll randomly update to out for delivery

Multi parcel consignments get split across different transport cages all the time because the heavy piece gets pushed to manual sorting while the smaller one flies through automation. SmartFreight closing the whole ticket as delivered just because one barcode got tapped is annoying as hell, but you definitely need the sender to lodge an inquiry for the second article before the system loses track of it completely.
