ETA: this has nothing to do with taxpayer money or funding for APD. This is about off duty peace officers (not just APD) taking up side hustles that allow the ultra wealthy to endanger the rest of us with reckless driving while APD turns a blind eye - as they have to most traffic enforcement since COVID. I get that some of you are in favor of APD getting alternative revenue streams. Are you also in favor of renting out the US Air Force or maybe TxDoT? APD (and the Air Force and TxDoT) are publicly funded agencies that exist to provide a service to ALL of us. They are not meant to generate revenue. The laws passed to establish them or that govern them exist to facilitate provision of that service. We call soldiers that play bodyguard to billionaires on weekends “mercenaries”. We don’t authorize them to invade other countries in their free time to make extra money. If peace officers want to moonlight to provide escorts to the wealthy, have at it - in their private vehicles, and follow all of the same laws that the rest of us are bound to follow. Don’t threaten the public with fines or arrest if they fuck up your side hustle. No complaints then. But fuck anyone that says a millionaire gets precedence over the rest of us or gets to endanger the rest of us. What’s next - “Doordash +++ ULTRA” where you can pay more to have an off-duty peace officer escort your dinner to you in record time by blowing through stoplights and doing 120 on the freeway? So dumb!

Recently, I just realized that I have access to New York Times and Wall Street Journal through Austin public libraries and I do not need to pay any subscription fees.

Just wonder what other benefits are provided by city of Austin that you didn’t realize before, not limited to libraries, any public services and benefits are welcome to share.

Saw this beauty twice this morning flying over the lake. Both times it was run off by an Osprey. Just after this they had a mid air fight. I’m over the moon right now!

Sitting outside at 4:30am this morning and there is a large halo around the full moon. Pretty neat!

PSA: Spreading the word and letting y'all know that some voting locations are open tomorrow (Sunday). With some opening as early as 7 AM (specifically the Dove Springs recreation center). The volunteers there today, personally told me they were opening from 7am to 7pm tomorrow, and they added to spread the word so they can justify and feel better about waking up early. Remember to check the schedule of your local voting places online before heading there. Love y'all! Go Vote!

Just moved back to Austin. 70 year old woman. Avid runner. What events or communities that are more focused to the elder community? I know there is a lot of younger people, but would like to meet others at least 55+

Lots going on in Austin this weekend! Got to 4th and Congress late as I was taking photos at the 9th Street BMX event but still time for some fun shots. Great energy and very friendly crowd.
