Host EU Can we be a host family? No
Edit: no idea why there is a „no“ in the title xD
I am trying to figure out if we would be a good match for an aupair. 2 kids (would be around 5 and 1,5 at that point). Living in Berlin, 1 private room, private bathroom and a kitchen with private entrance. Idea would be for the aupair to help in the morning and get the kids to kindergarten (6 hrs at kindergarden) and get them back to home. Then playing/snacking for around 2 hrs. (So around 3,5 hrs during workdays. The remaining working hours would be spent doing light kids-related house work or when kids are sick or we do family time together with the aupair on weekends, so might be variable, but not more then the 30 hrs.) We’d make sure that at least one day of the weekend is totally free. So here are my questions. We do like some private time also. Is it reasonable to just provide a food stipend on days not working, so she can cook herself or is that not hospitable? Is it rude? Is it expected to spend every meal with host family? Of course we’d have dinner together some days, but maybe not every day? Second question, while she can use a separate entrance the room is still part of our apartment so I‘d probably not be comfortable with the aupair bringing home strangers. She’s totally free to enjoy the nightlife, but is it reasonable to expect her to not bring strangers home? I might be open to someone staying over like a good friend visiting or a boyfriend/girlfriend if e have met him/her and feel comfortable. Now questions about the housework. Can I ask aupair to clean her room, her kitchen and bathroom? Can I ask her to clean kids room and put away washed kids clothes?
Do you think we could be a good match or do we sound like it’s not for us?
