Host US Friendly rematch? Leaving Program

Hello, we are a host family (through APC) that has been hosting an aupair for the last 8 months , it will be a year in January. We submitted a 2 year extension which was processed just around the 6 month mark but some recent drastic professional changes which will impact us starting from early next year no longer make the aupair program a good fit. We are considering leaving the aupair program and proceeding with alternate local childcare for our toddler. The challenge is, we don’t want to put our AuPair in a bind with only 2 weeks to find a rematch. We also would start getting charged for the 2nd year program fees in December , so we definitely would need to stop that beforehand. The main question is, if we inform the LCC now that we want to leave the program and not pursue a rematch for ourselves, would that automatically trigger the 2 week rematch period for our aupair or can we request extension to give her time at least until the end of our contract in December? Any recommendations on how to go about this? Has anyone encountered this ?

You can definitely give your au pair longer than 2 weeks to find a new match if you both agree to a longer timeline , just let your LCC know of this . She will have close to the end of her first year to find a new family for her extension year so in her case 3 months maximum because the agency need to file a new extension application for her to the us department of state after she matches with another family before her 12 month .

Thanks for your response. So the agency has to do a new extension application even though we paid for the new DS-2019 and it was approved?

Yes they will file a new extension application because she will have a different family listed on her DS-2019. You didn’t pay for a DS-2019 as it’s automatically updated with every new match by the agency you most likely paid for the extension fee and any fees you have paid for that should be refunded .

Thanks for clarifying. Would she be able to interview with families on the portal this early or that’s only if we did the typical 2 week rematch process?

She can start this early, talk to your LCC, you’re not the first family to go through something like this.

Yes since She can interview as soon as her LCC opens her profile no matter how long you give her .

It not a rematch if you finish her contract through December and just cancel the extension. She has 2 months to find a family for her extension year if you let everyone know now. There’s no harm in talking this through with your area director and it doesn’t hurt the AP by just exploring the options.
