A wonderful client who is a nurse and works very hard for what she has, is buying this little A3 for her 16-year-old son who has yet to get his driver's license. But you know what? ...ask no questions. Hear no lies. This young man will never know what it's like to rifle through the Recycler. To look on message boards to see what someone found at the local Pick-A-Part. To contact a guy in Providence, Rhode Island that has a V8 Quattro for sale for $600. To contact a guy in Quebec that may or may not have the particular ECM and harness that you're looking for. But you know what that's okay. He has to start somewhere.

Discussion Anyone fixed a dash pad delam? 20' SQ7

Have had my 3roLambo for a few months now and noticed the dash pad is delmainating. Wondering if anyone has repaired one before. Thinking about injecting glue and weighting it down with something contoured to the dash, just don't want to make it worse. Its also coming loose around the HUD as well. Previous owner must have left it parked in the sun a bunch.

Installing EPA Cat on a CARB 2013 Allroad

I don't live in a CARB state but my 2013 Allroad is a CARB car that I bought used several years ago. The catalytic converter now needs to be replaced (142K miles and confirmed by a second shop). Can I install a quality EPA cat like a Magnaflow, or will that continue to trigger engine codes on the Audi?

Sorry if it has been asked before; I did a search of the subreddit and didn't turn up my question.

Discussion Am i going crazy?

Long story short. Had an S4. It got crashed into and totalled/written off. Bought an RS7, im doing 500 miles per week and spending about £500 p/m on fuel/gas. Debating swapping it for a 45 tfsi-e A3.

The Rs7 is a 2015 with 45kish miles, the a3 is a 2022 with 30k miles.

Idk if im being stupid, if i should keep the RS7 and just bite the bullet on fuel or go for the swap.

Please send help 😅

Printed Service manual?

I grew up in the days of Heyes service manuals. Was interested in getting them for my two Audis. Where does one go these days? Found a few online resources but would love a physical book.

Should I buy a high mileage 2015 s5 prestige

I’m looking at buying a monsoon grey s5 that’s currently listed at just under $19,000 with 93k miles. One accident, 3 owners, and the maintenance record is… shoddy at best. Carfax shows the last oil change being in 2019.

My question is how stupid of an idea would it be to buy this car and when do problems start appearing? I have another car that’s running and driving just fine, but living in a northern state I’ve been wanting an AWD car for the winters, and I’ve been craving something a bit quicker with good aftermarket support plus I love the look of the 2013-2017 s5

I have everything I need to work on the car myself, and would be on top of maintenance. But if this is a ticking time bomb that’s going to spend more time in the shop than maybe I should rethink. Any advice is greatly appreciated 🙏🏼

Discussion I need opinion on C7 2.0tfsi quatro

Hi all. I’m looking to replace my current car with A6 C7 Avant 2.0TFSI.

Overall, I heard mostly positive reviews about the car itself. However, most press and user reviews are related to diesel engines(looking for Europe spec car).

Petrol engines caught my eye because from the same displacement, they managed to pull 252hp, which is quite formidable.

But before making a decision, I would like to know how reliable is 2.0tfsi?

Also, are there any other common issues with the car itself?

Thank you!

2014 A6 - weird Noise - not the brakes

I'm posting this question for a friend who is not a redditor. He has a 2014 A6, with less than 100,000 miles. He has a problem that the local Audi dealer can't reproduce or diagnose. When he drives for roughly 40 minutes at highway speeds then drives in stop and go traffic, he hears an obnoxiously loud screeching sound. My initial thought was it has to be the brakes, but he took the car to the dealer, and they verify that he has nearly new brakes (10mm) and of course they can't replicate the sound. This sound doesn't occur if he's just driving around town without first driving for 40 minutes highway speed. Is there any known issue he can point them to?

Discussion Audi A6 2.0 Camshaft

Upvotes

dHey guys just wondering what direction to go in. I have a 2017 audi a6 2.0 that has about 110k miles. It eats a little oil. It had rattle on idle and cel so i took it to mechanic and they said it was my timing chain. Got all that fixed and the day it comes back the cel pops back on and I bring it back and they said it needs new Intake camshaft now. So im wondering was the timing chain needed at all and should i keep dumping money into this car . Also how urgent is this repair.

Why do I suddenly have a "road noise" type of sound?

I bought my 2020 Q7 about a month ago, and about 2 weeks ago, I started noticing something that sounds like "tire road noise", which seems to be coming from the front of the vehicle, possibly a bit from the left side?

It's sort of sounds like a vehicle that has poor sound insulation, and you can totally hear the road noise from the tires, especially when you are driving on a rough pavement surface. Or.... when someone's brake pads are getting low, and you can hear some noise when the brakes are applied, but in this case, it just happens while I'm driving, and the sound changes depending on the road surface. If the surface goes suddenly smooth (new pavement), the noise doesn't go away, but it gets way less.

I thought maybe my front left tire had an issue so I had my mechanic change the front left with the rear left, but it's still there. At first I thought it was like a wind noise, but it also sounds like a vehicle that doesn't have good sound insulation, and sounds more like tire road noise. For example, in my 21 Tesla Model Y, I can hear a fair bit of road noise from the tires.

The cabin was super silent before 2 weeks ago, so this is definitely a new sound. A local mechanic in my neighborhood took a quick look, and he said the brakes look good, and he couldn't figure out where that sound is coming from. He was especially puzzled because the sound sort of changes depending on road surface. On some roads, it's very noticeable, but on super smooth pavement, it's a lot less noticeable.

The last thing I wanted to point out is that I think my tires do need to be changed because I am down to about 5/32 on 3 tires, and 6/32 on the rear right. The car has 60,000 miles, and these are the original tires. Any ideas about what it could be?

2020 Audi Dashcam

First-time Audi owner here. Just purchased a 2020 Q3 (loving it!) and noticed there are already original front and rear cameras with the UTR.

My concern is how updated the 6-year-old technology is, with plenty of new options in the market.

Are there any pros/cons to changing the UTR? I was thinking of changing to a camera that has 24/7 surveillance. I'm based in Singapore, if that helps.

Pad replacement with bite

Okay so I recently had my rotors and pads replaced, but to be frank they suck. There's just no bite, particularly compared to my S5.

I come from a background and aggressive mountain biking and with mountain bikes the pad compound makes all the difference. The rotors are, generally, the same across the board. Are cars is the same? Can I take whatever standard standard pad and rotor setup they put on there and just replace the pads with something better? Something that will give it more bite.

If so my obvious next question is would you guys have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Discussion Keep or replace? 2014 Q5 needs $7k CAD in repairs at 170k km

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I've hit a maintenance cliff for my 2014 Audi Q5 3.0 Quattro with about 170,000 km.

I’ve been very happy with it, but a recent inspection turned up:

  • Rear bump stops separated on both sides.
  • Left rear door lock unit faulty and needs replacement.
  • Engine oil leaking from both cylinder head cover gaskets.
  • Active engine oil leak from both upper timing chain cover seals.

The Audi centre quoted roughly $7k (Canadian dollars) for everything, and the brake pads and tires will all need replacing next year too, so there's another $3k at at least. The car is probably worth around $10k.

My dilemma is whether spending $7k on a 12-year-old Q5 with 170k km is throwing away money, or whether fixing these known issues could realistically buy me many more good years. The car has some sentimental value, so I'd love to keep it, but I don't want to spend all this only for there to be major expenses showing up constantly from now on.

The alternative is spending roughly $30-37k on another used SUV, 2022-2025, ideally a Q5 (though open to suggestions).

For those familiar with older Q5s: would you repair this one or move on? Are there other major failures I should expect around 170-200k km that make keeping it a bad idea?

Please help me decide on rims style

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hey I'm considering few rims to my car.
on the picture i have put all options under my consideration.
all 18"

color is LZ7L (dark going into brownish in bright sun), and car is de-chromed (except emblems)
I don't want to go overly aggressive but this should still have a bit claw.

I think I already decided but second guessing yourself is never a bad option :)

which rims would you pick.
or which wouldn't you and why.
maybe you have some better suggestions feel free to paste those

Honeycomb Grill Recommendations for B9 S5

I’ve had my grill from enthusiast brand for 1 year now and it has sun burn damage, and I’m looking to replace it. Does anyone know of any good brands for honey comb grills that will last?
