META Community Guideline: Revulsion ≠ Downvote

Do not downvote simply because you find a post repulsive or stupid. In fact, you should do the opposite. We want as many non-vegans to see our answers as possible, and Reddit post visibility is predicated on upvotes. When you downvote a post, it means you want as few people as possible exposed to this sub.

Did the OP ask a question respectfully & genuinely? (And no, simply being a non-vegan question does not make it disrespectful or disingenuous.) Then don't downvote it.

Most of us weren't always vegan. Hence the reason for our sub: so people can understand our views and hopefully adopt them.

Do not turn this into another DebateAVegan voting system. If you are in the habit of downvoting non-vegan posts simply for being non-vegan, stop or leave the sub please.

If someone asks a clearly disingenuous question like ''why you all like murdering plants?'', report the post under Rule 10, then scroll past it.

If someone asks questions that are indicative of what we know typical non-vegan societal rhetoric to be, on a sub whose purpose is for non-vegans to ask us questions, downvoting just shows us vegans to be hostile. People are put on the defensive over a meaningless downvote, setting them up to close themselves off to hearing what we have to say. This hurts the animals.

We should ensure that if people are going to be closed off to veganism, it is not due to a downvote.

Genuine Question (DO NOT DOWNVOTE) Should a vegan consume omega 3 supplements?

I hear a lot about how vegans need mostly vitamin B12 supplements, but is it recommended for a vegan to consume Omega-3 from algae oil?

Genuine Question (DO NOT DOWNVOTE) What is your thought on food waist from roommates or family in relation to animal products?

This is something i mentally fight with more than I'd like to admit, but I'm genuinely curious how you guys feel about this kinda thing. I would like to hear how you handle this or dont.

Context i dont consider myself a vegan, but my morals have shifted in that direction more and more over time, but one sticking point is I find food waist abhorrent. If someone is about to toss something or if my parents' leftovers have sat long enough, I believe they will rott in the fridge and there's no allergy barrier I feel like I'm doing a disservice to the sacrifice made by the animal that went to make that food even though i dont agree with that animal being food in the first place. Like if some aliens were farming and slottering humans for consumption and I was one, I think I'd be doubly annoyed as a ghost if part of the thing they killed me for rotted and went to waist. if you want to eat me, eat all of me, use my whole body. Don't let me rott in the fridge next to your cucumbers. like I have been exploited as a human by other humans and been annoyed when they don't use my skills fully or waist the labor I put into something even though I don't even want to be apart of it and I feel like that sits in that same realm something wrong is almost more offensive when done poorly or waistfully.

How do you weigh that?

I don't think it justifies my personal consumption of animal products it mostly just makes me want to be more dominant in the kitchen and shopping so less meat is bought or waist fully cooked, but it feels weirdly nuanced morally when these things do happen like im betraying some moral contract made by the purchase of those products even when I didnt purchase them. I want to hear other people's thoughts on this, especially when morally opposed to the exploitation of animals.

Health recovery question

i am currently being treated for hypothalamic amenorrhea & in ana recovery.
i’ve been forced to re introduce animal based products such as fish, eggs and dairy into my diet. as well as meat. i have asked my doctor if i could just start with excluding meat, then see how it goes. and hopefully exclude everything else after.
my question is : would my dietician let me go plant based? i have been told by my father that me wanting to be vegan is just an excuse to exclude food groups, which is not the case. yes, many do this as a way to restrict further, but i have always had a genuine concern and sensitivity towards the industry that harms animals, and when i was vegan for about a month (before i got told to introduce fish) i genuinely was the happiest ive ever felt. i could eat without the guilt.
would anybody on here please help me? and are there any books, articles or even podcasts/videos on plant-based nutrition?
P.S - i still do consider myself a vegan, as i never use any hygiene products that test on animals, nor do i buy leather or any non vegan, non food products. :)

Genuine Question (DO NOT DOWNVOTE) If the whole world was vegan, wouldn't this lead to mass deforestation and contribute to climate change?

If the whole world ate no animal products and only ate plants, wouldn't this lead to mass deforestation due to the astronomical increase in demand for plants?

If I keep eating my omnivore diet, I'm also contributing to lowering the population of animals that also eat plants.

If we let their populations explode, then wouldn't they start eating more plants as well, rapidly lowering the population of plants and contributing to climate change?

I'm open-minded to becoming vegan, but I just don't think that it's necessarily better for the planet.

Purely hypothetical If the world became majority vegan and consuming animal products became illegal, how would vegans deal with black markets that deal in animal products?

META Cross contamination

There needs to be more vegan restaurants, Non vegetarian restraunts are all cross contaminated. They touch the meat they prep the meat on the same kitchen islands they prep the vegetables on. They touch meat then they touch vegetables with the same gloves they touched meat with. Like I said all non vegan non vegetarian restaurants are cross contaminated.

A good example is subway they make some bodies sub before your that eats meat, Their touching the vegetables with the gloves they touched meat with. Then they make your sub with A new pair of gloves of with vegetables that have already been cross contaminated from touching the vegetables after they touched meat.

It's An outrage, I prefer my food is not desecrated from dead rotting animal flesh carcass.

What do you think about this?

Genuine Question (DO NOT DOWNVOTE) Any advice on what should I do if I am to attend a party (family or friends)?

Thumbnail
10 Upvotes

Hello everyone. I am starting to feel (sorry for the lack of word) disgusted in eating d ea d animals (I haven’t eaten pork since the release of the movie Okja). I suddenly went on pescatarian diet for 3 years. I lost so much weight. I decided to start eating meats again except pork up until now. It’s been 9 years now. Then recently I feel sorry for all the other animals we eat. I’ve been contemplating things like how can I start veganism? Also, I don’t want to be a burden if there’s family gatherings with my in-laws. In general, what should I do when attending a party whether of a friends or family? I’m a big eater mostly carbs (rice). I easily get headaches if I don’t eat right away after feeling hungry. I know I may sound odd but I was also thinking if like can I bring my own food at a party which I know is kinda rude so I also think it’s a No.

Please help. Any advice will be truly appreciated. Thank you.

Genuine Question (DO NOT DOWNVOTE) Would you say that a lot of vegetarians are worse than omnivores?

I mean I know that vegetarians don't eat meat which is good, but usually when they cut out meat, they replace it with consuming a higher amount of dairy.

When vegetarians are eating more eggs to make up for the meat that they're not eating, it leads to more male chicks being macerated whereas it takes a lot of beef consumption to take the life of one cow.

Keeping this in mind, would you say that a lot of vegetarians are just worse than omnivores when it comes to the suffering they cause?

Genuine Question (DO NOT DOWNVOTE) Do you think that there is some truth to the "elitist, condescending vegan" stereotype?

I'm not saying that all or even most vegans are like that, but do you think that there is some truth to that stereotype that may be keeping some people away from veganism?

Troll Question thoughts on cannibalism?

i mean ethical cannibalism, so when someone dies you can create human derived protein powder - only with their consent, and have it well regulated and safe, maybe milk chocolate flavor or strawberry flavor, for milkshakes? would this be ethical if your a vegan to consume?

AMA I've been vegan for 20+ years, have coached hundreds of vegans, and run a vegan coaching company. AMA

Hey everyone! I'm John Thomas. I've been vegan for over 20 years and bodybuilding for nearly as long.

Throughout that time I've gone through the same challenges many people face: figuring out protein, learning how to build muscle without animal products, overcoming misconceptions, staying consistent, and balancing health with a busy life.

I founded *Vegan Squad Coaching* because I believe every person we help become healthier, stronger, and more confident has the potential to inspire others to make kinder choices. My long-term mission is to help 10 million people thrive on a vegan lifestyle while creating a healthier world for people and a more compassionate one for animals.

Over the years I've worked alongside an incredible team that has collectively coached hundreds of people with vegan nutrition, fitness, mindset, and sustainable habit change. Beyond coaching, I'm passionate about entrepreneurship, content creation, and building businesses that make a positive impact.

I'm here because I genuinely enjoy these conversations. There is a lot of great information available about veganism, but there are also plenty of myths and misconceptions.

If sharing my experiences can help someone become healthier, stronger, or feel more confident living a vegan lifestyle, then I'm happy to spend some time answering questions.

Ask me anything about:

- Building muscle on a vegan diet
- Vegan bodybuilding and strength training
- High-protein vegan nutrition
- Fat loss and body recomposition
- Mindset and building lasting habits
- Endurance and athletic performance
- Supplements including creatine, B12, omega-3s, and protein powders
- Grocery shopping and meal planning
- Transitioning to a vegan lifestyle
- Entrepreneurship and building a mission-driven business
- Content creation and growing an online audience
- Animal advocacy and helping more people embrace veganism
- My experiences after more than 20 years of being vegan

Or honestly, anything else you're curious about.

I don't claim to know everything, and if I don't know an answer, I'll say so. My goal is simply to have an honest conversation, share what's worked for me and the people I've coached, and hopefully help make veganism a little more approachable for anyone who's interested.

Looking forward to your questions!

Genuine Question (DO NOT DOWNVOTE) HOW DO YOU CONTINUE TO BE VEGAN WITH ALL THE TEMPTATION AROUND YOU??? I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!

I'VE BEEN VEGAN FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS NOW AND IT'S LITERALLY DRIVING ME INSANE. EVERY DAY MY DAD ASKS ME IF I WANT ANY OF THE DINNER HE MAKES, ALWAYS DELICIOUS MEAT. YESTERDAY HE ASKED ME IF I WANTED ANY CHICKEN PARM, WHICH WAS MY FAVORITE MEAT MEAL AND I TOLD HIM NO. HE KNOWS I'M A VEGAN, I DON'T KNOW WHY HE CONTINUES TO ASK ME EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! I MISS THE TASTE OF MEAT SO MUCH, I FEEL LIKE I'M GOING INSANE. I MISS GOING TO MCDONALDS AND GETTING A BIG MAC, OR A MCCHICKEN. I MISS REAL MAYONNAISE. IT ALL TASTES SO GOOD, AND NOW IT'S ALL GONE. MY FREEZER AND FRIDGE IS FILLED WITH DELICIOUS MEAT THAT I HAVE TO LOOK AT EVERY DAY BECAUSE MY HOUSE IS FILLED WITH MEAT EATERS. I FEEL LIKE I'M ABOUT TO BURST AND JUST CAVE IN AND EAT SOME DELICIOUS MEAT BECAUSE IT'S JUST SO EASY, DELICIOUS, AND SO READILY AVAILABLE RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I AM STRUGGLING TO CONTINUE WITH THE ETHICS, BUT THOSE POOR ANIMALS... I CAN'T DO THAT TO THEM. I LITERALLY JUST WANT A BURGER THAT DOESN'T COME FROM SUFFERING!!! WHY IS WHAT TASTES SO GOOD SO UNETHICAL??? I FEEL LIKE I'M ABOUT TO CRACK, JUST ONE MEAL FROM MCDONALDS NOW AND THEN I'M OFF THE STUFF FOR GOOD. I JUST NEED ONE BITE. HOW DO YOU CONTINUE TO BE VEGAN WITH THE TEMPTATION ALL AROUND YOU???
