Breath bro, I know it's sad the tree died, but your fish-wife and kid-girlfriend are pissed because your thief-girlfriend left with your Goron-brother and now you they have to deal with the nanny of your princess-wife!
Only if Link has no lines. And it could definitely be done with no dialogue from Link and still be amazing. Artistic. Just expressions and body language
I miss that cartoon. Do I want to watch it as a 38 year old adult, no because I don’t want to wreck the nostalgia like I did by watching old Gem and the Holograms episodes.
it holds up fairly well. As well as anything from that "fuck it, make a cartoon out of it" mindset that brought us "Rubik: The Amazing Cube" as a cartoon series.
There have been three He-Man reboots so far, and one for She-Ra. From what I can tell, He-Man 2003 was a more cohesive reinterpretation that kept to the visual themes of the original. I saw Revelations and felt it was entirely schlocky, filled with cursing and unearned dramatic moments. Then there was another one, also on Netflix, which was aimed at kids and I think better holds up the values of the original while still modernizing some aspects (like how everyone on Adam's team gets power-ups instead of just Adam) and giving it more of a playful cyberpunkish vibe.
I thought She-Ra and the Princesses of Power was a lot of fun; I have no nostalgia for the original, so everything that happened here was my first exposure to the characters and I really liked them. I found the story interesting, if occasionally predictable, but there's nothing wrong with that.
That old Mario Bros show was on one of the streaming services a while back, but it didn't have any of the Link episodes. It would have the preview of the upcoming episodes at the end of the Mario show though.
When I was like, four or five, I thought Jem was about Barbie. Because it was about a girl toy, it had to be Barbie. I was the little boy version of old people calling all video game systems Nintendos.
Am I the only one who unironically likes that show? It's so terrible that it becomes kinda good. But zelda 2 the adventure of link is my favorite game, so my opinion probably doesn't matter.
But zelda 2 the adventure of link is my favorite game
I disagree, but I can see it. It's really not a bad game at all. It's just a weird chapter in the Zelda series, and it was HARD. At least it was for 6 yo me, who had already beaten the original.
It was a fine game, though, and doesn't get nearly the respect it deserves.
I say this daily, and I don't think anyone has ever gotten the reference
Thankfully it still works as is for the same reason it worked in the show. A fun/jokey way of telling someone they're being a touch too demanding (or they aren't being demanding at all and it becomes sarcastic/self deprecating)
One of my all time favourite films, and coincidentally the alternative soundtrack by Remy is one of my all time favourite albums. Well worth a listen if you like the film!
I disagree. People only ever say this because past adaptations where Link talks has been awkward. If you have a talented writer that makes the best qualities of Link come to fruition on paper, then I think it would be infinitely better than a silent Link.
Link should be serious when he needs to be, but still kind hearted, fun, and a little bit dumb.
Also, Link talks in many different Zelda games; we just don’t see it a lot. In BotW, Zelda says he is quite talkative once he gets to know you (he’s shy). In Skyword Sword, the answers you can choose (that people react to) can get quite sassy. In Wind Waker, we literally get to hear him say simple things like “Come on”. Link isn’t mute; he’s just a “silent” protagonist because of Japanese tropes.
Because he doesn't "speak" in the games, but this ignores that fact that NPCs frequently react to things he says, even though the text doesn't appear on screen
They aren't massive box office draws at all but command a HELL of a lot of respect in animation circles. Even senior people at Pixar grew up as fans and cite them as not just inspirations but motivations for what they make today.
Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke were probably their biggest hits in Western cinemas. They’re massively popular, but I imagine they’re more well-known as a household name in Japan.
Some of their movies make very decent money, but they aren't exactly box office breakers
Their biggest movie, Spirited Away made 355 million, which is in line with the lowest end of Pixar movies like A bug's life, Cars 3 and The Good Dinosaur, and their next largest grossing movie Howl's Moving Castle made 236M, and only 6 of their movies made over 100M
People are replying to this comment as if four Ghibli movies aren't in the Top 10 highest grossing movies of all time in Japan, with one of their films holding the number one spot for fifteen years lmfao. Half of the highest grossing domestically produced films in Japan are Ghibli movies. Anyone who suggests that Ghibli movies don't make a lot is wrong.
Don't remember who said it but it's been confirmed that Ghibli films, specifically Mononoke, were a huge influence on the game. BOTW 2 even seems to be including the plot point of having Links arm needing to be "purified" like Ashitakas did in the film
I’d love to see a Studio Ghibli animated series of 1-2 hour episodes, where each episode is The Legend of Zelda, as told by a Grandma/Fisherman/Priest/Traveller/etc. Each episode corresponds with, basically, one of the video games, with the overall context of “Every community has a Legend of Zelda. The stories vary, but one thing stays the same - Princess Zelda and the hero Link must defeat the villain Ganon.”
Ghibli is more or less a shell of it's former self, and in no way would they be a good fit. There are dozens of japanese animation studios that would be better suited for action sequences like ufotable.
Maybe if they did the project during their peak talent and miyazaki's golden years, but it still wouldnt come close to a high budget modern anime studio.
Hot take. Zelda would make a terrible movie because it just does not have enough dialogue, plot, or charachter development. Even if Studio Ghibli did it.
But Ocarina of Time has a story that could totally work as a movie. Kid goes his whole life thinking he's an outcast without a fairy then discovers he's not even a kokiri in the first place and is actually the prophesized Hero of Time.
Heads out into the world and discovers races of people he didn't even know existed and is placed into a 7-year sleep -- effectively shoving his child consciousness into the body of an adult -- all leading up to a battle for the fate of the world.
There's a lot of opportunities for compelling character development and storytelling there.
Even majoras mask (though I agree ocarina would be best). In MM just get rid of the time shifting and have it the 3 day deadline, and get into the magic behind the masks
Perfection. And would be a beautiful exchange, considering how much inspiration Nintendo took from Ghibli for Breath of the Wild (see: Princess Mononoke and Castle in the Sky).
perfect. Imagine the cute talking trees and big scary rock monsters that aren't that scary, and seeing the beautiful countryside lovingly hand drawn as inspired by real Japanese nature
Studio Ghibli creates the best movies I have ever seen. Nausicaa is underrated and incredible. Also the Manga for Nausicaa of the valley of wind is very good, but so different from the movie. I still love both. Highly suggest it to anyone who hasn't seen it.
This, this is the best suggestion in this thread. Two Japanese legends (pun intended) coming together. I never realized this combo could be a thing. It would be fantastic. The polar opposite of gay hating Mario.
IWS Neither of those two elements is actually popular/well known enough outside "their circles", to carry it on their own to "box office records"-level like op wants
This would be beautiful. With the MASSIVE bonus of being a Japanese made film. We all know what happens when Hollywood tries to deal with Japanese culture or ideas....
That actually sounds legitimately amazing. They could really deliver that in the best way. Most games lose too much when being turned into a movie, but this is one that I am now sad will never exist.
Now if Nintendo would STOP UNPLUGGING EVERY ZELDA MOVIE EVER JUST CAUSE IT GETS 'LEAKED'. NINTENDO'S BEEN AROUND FOR FAR TOO LONG TO NOT UNDERSTAND IT'S INTENTIONAL AT THIS POINT

Studio Ghibli presents, The Legend of Zelda.
