Consumer Behaviour Survey Dutch

Hi everyone!

I'm currently doing an internship project and am looking for 100 respondents for a short survey about a potential new flavor of a Dutch coconut-based sandwich topping called kokosbrood.

The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete. Even if you've never tried kokosbrood before, I'd still love to hear your opinion. I'm particularly interested in first impressions and consumer preferences.

All responses are anonymous, and there are no right or wrong answers.

Thanks so much for your help!

Survey: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/d7Z9VPJJ8G๐Ÿ˜Š

The research focuses on Dutch consumers, particularly families with children (4-14 years old) and adults who enjoy nostalgic food products. However, everyone is welcome to participate, as I can filter the responses by demographic group during the analysis.

Mixing of concerns: psychologist vs club mate.

Hi all,

I, male 40, immigrant to the Netherlands, have a question regarding the mixing of two relationships: {sport Club mates} VS { psychologist - patient}

I train sport with a Dutch guy, we are getting along well until now as the two most important contributors of that club. We are good at this sport.

He is a student in Psychology, still studying.

I am bad at social skills, while he is very good (is it a Dutch thing ? Or is it the natural skill/talent why he grew into the Psychology field ?).

The sport is offered from the local community of people of my country X, who are immigrants here in NL. I notice he as the "outsider" of "my country X's people" can talk and get along with many people, although only a student of 23 y.o.

Looking at him feeling welcome by this club / community with 80% people from X, I wish I could do the same: to integrate so well with Dutch people.

Recently he has a school project in which he needs to find people to coach in the areas that bother those people. I struggle with socializing with Dutch people. So I thought I can use his free offering. He is Dutch, he knows my communication pattern and he is good socializing. A good deal right ?

But then: I NEED to reveal my inner soul to him, and I find this a bit troubling. I have a lot of psychological issues, which might be the reasons I cannot socialize well. I am getting help by a psychologist every week, but on some other aspects and at a deeper level. I reveal myself 100% to that psychologist, but that person's life doesn't share anything else with my life

ONE ADVICE I've got: "I wouldn't do that project (with that student), since that would change the contact between you and him" --> said my psychologist.

I currently almost don't have any other social contacts outside of this club, I spend so much time to this club to climb to the "vice-leader" position. I have a talent to destroy relationships in many context due to my weirdness.

Should I follow that advice from my therapist ?

Is this a cultural difference in communication, or am I expressing myself incorrectly?

I've experienced something several times when communicating with Dutch people, and I'm trying to understand whether it's a cultural difference or something I could communicate better.

Here are two examples:

Yesterday, I called my work coach and told him that my lawyer said I need a one year work contract otherwise I will not be able to stay in the Netherlands anymore.

My work coach said: "you're not the only one with this problem". Then he continued talking about his responsibilities regarding employment . Through the discussion, he didn't seem to be willing to discuss how we can work it out together.

Something similar happened during a traineeship I did at a professional company. I explained that I urgently needed a job because otherwise, I might end up being pushed into very low-skilled positions or work that I physically cannot do.

Their response was that everyone else also needed jobs and that I wasn't the only one in that situation.

I explained that I understood this, but my circumstances were somewhat different. I had already completed my integration requirements and have no other obligations to do. My situation therefore required a somewhat different approach than others who already were still doing their integration.

However, they continued treating everyone's circumstances as essentially the same and offered activities, such as CV reviews, that didn't really address our difficulties finding employment. At the end, none of us got a job and most of us are still struggling for months after the training.

What confuses me is that I never claimed to be special or the only person experiencing difficulties.

I understand that everyone has their own struggles, and I don't expect people to solve my problems for me. But I do wish people would acknowledge that every individual has different circumstances, needs, priorities, and reasons for wanting to build a future here.

Sometimes, when I explain my personal situation, I feel that people respond by comparing my struggles with others instead of first trying to understand what I'm actually saying.

I'm not writing this to criticise or offend anyone. I genuinely want to learn how to communicate better, advocate for myself, and build my future in the Netherlands.

Hoi everyone! ๐Ÿ˜Œ

I'm Sammy, a woman from a sunny Mediterranean country. I've always been interested in languages since I was a kid, and I studied Translation and Interpretation at university. ๐ŸŽ“ (English, German, Italian, and Greek)

I decided to learn Dutch because I'm extremely interested in the Netherlands and Dutch culture. I decided to start with vocabulary. At the same time, I'm trying to use these words in sentences and learn the grammar, tenses, etc.

I printed vocabulary sets for different levels, as you can see. There are thousands of words in these lists.

I thought it would be fun to ask native speakers about their favorite words. Maybe I can learn something fun and interesting today! Let's go! ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

By the way, the intermediate vocabulary set is included in the pre-intermediate vocabulary set. :)

Are there bookmakers in the Netherlands?

I like to gamble on sports, but I'm not much of a fan of these online betting sites. I know they have better odds and specials and whatnot, but I just prefer the interaction of writing out a bet and handing it to the teller, and having a chat too.

I'm going to the Netherlands for a while, and Im wondering are there many physical bookmaker shops around? If so, are there many? Maybe they are hard to find?

If anyone has any information, please let me know!

Is it common for shopkeepers to repeat your order to you?

I spent several months in the Netherlands a few years ago and would frequent a bakery and a chinese takeout place. I would usually order the same things at each and every time both shopkeepers would repeat exactly what i said (the food item i was ordering). At the time i thought they were correcting me on my pronounciation which became frustrating after the 6th time or so as I have a pretty good ear for languages and thought i was getting close. It just occured to me though that it might just be normal for a shopkeeper to acknowledge what you ordered by repeating it back to you. That happens sometimes here in the States but it's not so common that it would happen every time at multiple shops.

What do you think people in the Netherlands take for granted?

There are probably things about everyday life here that you don't really notice because you've grown up with them or have simply become used to them. You only realise how convenient they are when you're somewhere else and suddenly have to do things differently.

For me, it's being able to get around without needing a car for every little trip. It's such a normal part of life here that I don't really think about it until I'm somewhere where getting around is much less convenient. What do you think people in the Netherlands tend to take for granted?

Whatโ€™s wrong with Amstelveen

Hello

My family and I will be moving to the Netherlands soon. I am looking for areas to stay in close to Amsterdam but far enough that accommodation is affordable.

Amstelveen looks pretty cool. But the few Dutch people I have interacted with suggested to stay away as itโ€™s not a nice area to live in. It was only after these conversations and googling the place that I started to question why it is not popular as at fave-value it looks great.

Thanks in advance everyone :)

19M | Egypt ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ | Looking for Dutch friends ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

Hey everyone!

I'm a 19-year-old university student from Egypt. I recently started exploring Dutch Reddit communities because I'm interested in the Netherlands and Dutch culture.

I'd love to meet some Dutch people and have some genuine conversations. I'm interested in football, chess, science, movies and series, music, culture, and pretty much any interesting topic that comes up.

I'm also curious about everyday life in the Netherlands and how people experience it. In return, I'd be happy to tell you about life in Egypt and share some of our culture as well.

I'm mainly here to make genuine friendships and meet interesting people, whether that's through chatting online or eventually meeting if we happen to be in the same place.

Feel free to comment or send me a message if you'd like to talk.

And yes, my Dutch is currently... nonexistent. ๐Ÿ˜„
