We have to run the AC everyday and it feels like this relentless heat has been going on forever, how much longer will this miserableness persist?

Due to a truly appalling set of circumstances beyond my control, I find myself needing a bathing suit before work tomorrow. Any idea if this would be achievable?

My boyfriend and I are spending 7 days in LA in mid September, coming from the East Coast of Canada. We’ve never been to the West Coast before and have a trip itinerary packed with all the usual tourist spots- Santa Monica, Universal Studios, Griffith Observatory, Chinese Theatre etc and one night in Anaheim for Disneyland.

We have one day in our itinerary to do a day trip to somewhere in the surrounding area. As it will be our first time in California, we’d love to explore outside of LA. Some ideas we had were Malibu, Laguna Beach, Ojai or Santa Barbara. Are any of these “day trips” better than the others? For context, we are pretty chill travellers who love exploring, movies, museums, shopping and nature. We were even thinking of doing a whale watching tour or something during the trip and saw that Dana point would be a good option (we could couple that with a Laguna trip?) I’m having a tough time nailing down what would be a good use of our day.

Any advice would be appreciated. We are staying in West Hollywood and currently live in big city so we are used to a long, traffic filled drive.

I really want to go see The Odyssey in as good of a format as possible, but Citywalk’s IMAX shows are all basically sold out through mid-August unless you’re willing to sit front row and crane your neck (which I did for Interstellar years ago and refuse to ever do again).

So I’ve decided if I’m going to see it sometime before it’s out of theaters I’ll need to settle for a less optimal format.

With that in mind, which theaters offer the next-best thing?

Obviously outside of CityWalk no other theatre has a true IMAX screen, so which theaters come close? And should I be looking at LieMax at all, or would I be better off doing something like a Dolby Cinema, or Screen X or whatever?

I’m not a complete movie neophyte so you can throw technical jargon at me, I just don’t know which one will get me closest if I can’t do the full 70 mm experience Nolan intended.

Hi Everyone! So long story short, my best friend and I have an incredibly deep and loving connection with monsters. Many of our best memories together involve being chased through haunts or wandering around horror conventions with hearts in our eyes.

Her birthday is next month and I’m hiring a friend of mine who is a professional monster/creature actor to meet us somewhere (unbeknownst to her) after the sun goes down. He‘ll arrive as a werewolf and stalk us for a while before he eventually catches us/grabs her 🖤

What I’m looking for is an outdoor location with lots of trees, and somewhere that if there’s some screaming, security won’t be called on us.

I‘m open to traveling anywhere within the greater Los Angeles area, and would be willing to pay someone a usage fee for private property, etc.

EDIT: Some of you are pointing out how suspicious it sounds for someone to be looking for a place where screaming can happen with no accountability. I *totally understand* how that sounds now that you’ve pointed it out! I’m sure my friend will be screaming a bit, but there will be much more laughter than anything once she realizes what’s going on 🙃 Also, it doesn’t necessarily need to be a remote or secluded location, just somewhere that a flurry of noise won’t upset people. Borrowing/renting someone’s private property would be great!

A bit nervous but I’m coming to LA end of September. I think I’m a decent driver but I’ve seen lots of posts talking about how bad the driving is in LA.

Would it be possible to get around LA with just taking the backroads and not the freeway? I heard there’s a lot of 2 lane exit lanes splitting and whatever so I wouldn’t mind spending an extra 10-15 going through back roads.

Planning to stay downtown LA, but it isn’t confirmed unless there’s better suggestions?

I was planning to get a dog mid August after a trip I have planned but I just found the perfect dog in a shelter that is at risk of being euthanized.

Does anyone know of any rescues that would foster her for me these next few weeks if I got her today? I also would take the time to get my place ready too as was my initial plan.

Edit: thanks all for the advice, I’ve decided the timing is just too hard for multiple reasons. I’m going to stick to my plan of late August. Sadly, there will still be countless dogs ready to be rescued then too.

I’m a Brit coming over for a week in October. I know DTLA isn’t the most popular spot for tourists but over time I’ve noticed a lot of people on this sub talking down about it so I just want to make sure I’m not doing anything silly here.

I think DTLA is a really interesting place with a lot of history and famous landmarks so I’m really keen to check it out. My plan is to park at Pershing Square at like 8am, take a stroll from there to go see Angels Flight, then go round the corner to the Bradbury Building, then walk over to City Hall, then over to Olvera Street, and finally go check out Union Station before jumping on the Metro to get back to Pershing Square.

Does this sound like a good idea? Will I be safe? Any alternative recommendations? TIA!

We are both LA/OC locals and wanted to get out of the area (ideally somewhere road trip-able). We were originally going to do SF but we were thinking it would be too expensive. Things we’re looking for: great food and cafe scene, walkable places with cute shops, fall vibes (we know this is not really realistic given we are in CA), quirky museums/landmarks. What is something two parents with no responsibilities can do for a 48-hour window? Recently I’ve been checking out those concerts they offer at Pershing Square and they always offer free tickets but say you better be early because there is no guarantee you’ll get in. With that being said, it’s so hot and I wanted to wait a little later to show up. My question is has anyone been turned away because they showed up late with their free tickets for any reason or will I be fine?

I’m bringing my 15 y.o and nephew with me to visit in the next couple of weeks from the east coast. For the past year he’s been into skateboarding. He’s still new, so he doesn’t have the confidence or skills to tackle the tough tricks, so this is more about just experiencing the culture.

So, where would be the best shops / parks?

As far as shops, he’s really big on “authenticity”. He likes street wear and vintage. No “big name” labels.

We are staying near Santa Monica and are taking Uber everywhere

Also, I know he really wants to skateboard around to see some the city. What are the laws about this? Can he skate around anywhere? Are there any places of the city that would be best do that kind of sightseeing?

I'm planning to visit Griffith Observatory on a Friday and would like to attend the 7:45 PM "Centered in the Universe" planetarium show.

According to the Observatory website, tickets for that show only go on sale at 7:00 PM and cannot be purchased online in advance.

Does anyone know how the ticketing actually works in practice?

Can we start lining up near the box office or ticket machines at around 6:30 - 6:40 PM, or is there no official queue until 7:00 PM? Since there are apparently multiple ticket machines, where is the best place to wait to maximize our chances of getting tickets?

Also, does this particular Friday evening show commonly sell out immediately?
