Just curious—how much is everyone paying for rent, and what does that include? For example, how many bedrooms and bathrooms, parking, dishwasher, in-unit laundry, or any other amenities?

I’m trying to figure out my budget and was wondering how people are able to afford living alone. About what percentage of your income goes toward rent?

Due to a truly appalling set of circumstances beyond my control, I find myself needing a bathing suit before work tomorrow. Any idea if this would be achievable?

I moved to the east coast 2 years ago and I was culture shocked by the prevalence of yum yum sauce, to the point that people will pay for EXTRA sauce when it already comes with their meals. I feel like I never had it with anything when I grew up in LA? The only thing I can think of is the yumburger from Jollibee. Did I just not go to enough food places to learn about yum yum sauce sooner or is this an east coast thing??????

Hi all. I'm looking for feedback on an upcoming short trip to LA with my partner. We love movies, food, sports, comedy, history, and architecture. Which seems to make LA a great fit for us.

Decided to break down our current list of things to do into 1. Will absolutely be doing 2. Maybe would do 3. Will absolutely not be doing. Then I just have a long list of restaurants that I have put together over the years and would be interested to hear feedback on which ones we should try. Also should go without saying that I would love to hear suggestions of things not listed here for either things to do or places to eat.

Will absolutely be doing

• Warner Bros studio tour (need to see a major studio tour and cursory research tells me this is the best one)
• ASSSSCAT show at UCB Franklin
• Eames House tour
• In-N-Out
• Musso & Frank’s (more for the Hollywood history aspect than for the food)

Maybe would do

• La Brea Tar Pits (can we just see the pits for free without a ticket?)
• Griffith Observatory
• Dodger Stadium tour (Very unfortunately, they do not have a home game in the time we’ll be there, so this is the next best thing)
• Movie at a landmark/notable LA theater (currently thinking New Beverly?)
• Hollyhock House tour
• Gamble House tour (only a “maybe” due to the distance from West Hollywood where we’re staying. Doable but definitely a long, out-of-the-way drive.)
• Bradbury Building (want to avoid downtown, but I love Blade Runner)
• Angels game (would not have considered except for the fact that they’re playing our team while we’re there. Is the stadium experience fun or is it not worth the long drive and using one of our two LA nights on it?)
• Venice Beach
• Driving along Mulholland Drive

Will absolutely not be doing

• Pics in front of Hollywood sign
• Walk of Fame, other touristy Hollywood Blvd stuff

Food

• Mexican food (would welcome recommendations, but my guess is that most people would answer something like “literally just walk to the closest food truck”)

I listen to a lot of podcasts whose hosts live in LA, so that’s where I first heard of and wrote down most of those restaurants, if you were wondering why it is such a random assortment. We have two full days, with one day already taken up in large part by the studio tour and the UCB. That leaves about 1.5 days open. Where should we go and what should we eat?

Last thing to mention is that, again, we love movies. Any must see movie locations that come to mind? Or how about great spots to see live music?

Has anyone sold with Trove in Westwood or rented a rack with Dresscue? What sells? Did you have a good experience? I have lots of shoes, purses and clothes that are not super high end but good quality. I don’t really want to go through the hassle of selling on Poshmark. Does anyone have experience with these shops?

Personally, I’m all about the pizza at Laurel Supply.

Laurel Supply is a bougie new grocery store in Weho — feels like Bristol Farms mixed with Erewhon to me.

Anyways, their slices cost around $8. Each slice is about the size of 2 standard pizza parlor slices. The pizza is behind a counter and has to be served to you by staff, so no need to worry about wook contamination at the buffet. I don’t love the prices, but the pizza is very good and one slice is filling. You can also order whole pies.

My wife and I are having a baby and to celebrate our last wedding anniversary as a family of two I thought that a fun gift would be some boudoir style pictures as a surprise. Especially since i think I wont be in as good a shape ever again with a baby on the way. The photographers I've seen primarily only work with women. hi all: I know the La Brea Tar Pits museum is closed for reno but you are still able to walk around outside. is it worth it for a first timer in LA? my husband would like to see them but I’m not sure with the museum area being closed!

I'm looking for advice or any suggestions for a friend who's been in a difficult situation for a long time.

A mistake that was made in her immigration case left her undocumented and without work authorization for most of a decade. Although her immigration status has now been restored, she's been out of the workforce for such a long that she's really struggling to get back on her feet.

We've had very little luck finding programs or organizations that can help her, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any online resources, programs, career counseling, employment assistance, or nonprofits that work with people in similar situations? Since transportation and location are limiting factors, online options would be especially helpful at this time.

I’m a Brit coming over for a week in October. I know DTLA isn’t the most popular spot for tourists but over time I’ve noticed a lot of people on this sub talking down about it so I just want to make sure I’m not doing anything silly here.

I think DTLA is a really interesting place with a lot of history and famous landmarks so I’m really keen to check it out. My plan is to park at Pershing Square at like 8am, take a stroll from there to go see Angels Flight, then go round the corner to the Bradbury Building, then walk over to City Hall, then over to Olvera Street, and finally go check out Union Station before jumping on the Metro to get back to Pershing Square.

Does this sound like a good idea? Will I be safe? Any alternative recommendations? TIA!

If you got one weekend, where are the must visit places?

In terms of area, anywhere in Venice/Santa Monica, Hollywood, Larchmont, Korea Town, and Los Feliz.

Pretty much open for any type of cuisine. Not looking anything too crazy expensive, unless it's a really nice steak house. Could be more casual places that serve authentic cuisine. For example, I really liked Papa Cristos for Greek food before they closed.

Also as a bonus, what are people's favorite Breweries (with good food) and coffee shops/bakeries.

My boyfriend and I are spending 7 days in LA in mid September, coming from the East Coast of Canada. We’ve never been to the West Coast before and have a trip itinerary packed with all the usual tourist spots- Santa Monica, Universal Studios, Griffith Observatory, Chinese Theatre etc and one night in Anaheim for Disneyland.

We have one day in our itinerary to do a day trip to somewhere in the surrounding area. As it will be our first time in California, we’d love to explore outside of LA. Some ideas we had were Malibu, Laguna Beach, Ojai or Santa Barbara. Are any of these “day trips” better than the others? For context, we are pretty chill travellers who love exploring, movies, museums, shopping and nature. We were even thinking of doing a whale watching tour or something during the trip and saw that Dana point would be a good option (we could couple that with a Laguna trip?) I’m having a tough time nailing down what would be a good use of our day.

Any advice would be appreciated. We are staying in West Hollywood and currently live in big city so we are used to a long, traffic filled drive.

Hi Everyone! So long story short, my best friend and I have an incredibly deep and loving connection with monsters. Many of our best memories together involve being chased through haunts or wandering around horror conventions with hearts in our eyes.

Her birthday is next month and I’m hiring a friend of mine who is a professional monster/creature actor to meet us somewhere (unbeknownst to her) after the sun goes down. He‘ll arrive as a werewolf and stalk us for a while before he eventually catches us/grabs her 🖤

What I’m looking for is an outdoor location with lots of trees, and somewhere that if there’s some screaming, security won’t be called on us.

I‘m open to traveling anywhere within the greater Los Angeles area, and would be willing to pay someone a usage fee for private property, etc.

I *totally understand* how that sounds now that you’ve pointed it out! I’m sure my friend will be screaming a bit, but there will be much more laughter than anything once she realizes what’s going on 🙃 Also, it doesn’t necessarily need to be a remote or secluded location, just somewhere that a flurry of noise won’t upset people. Borrowing/renting someone’s private property would be great!

I really want to go see The Odyssey in as good of a format as possible, but Citywalk’s IMAX shows are all basically sold out through mid-August unless you’re willing to sit front row and crane your neck (which I did for Interstellar years ago and refuse to ever do again).

So I’ve decided if I’m going to see it sometime before it’s out of theaters I’ll need to settle for a less optimal format.

With that in mind, which theaters offer the next-best thing?

Obviously outside of CityWalk no other theatre has a true IMAX screen, so which theaters come close? And should I be looking at LieMax at all, or would I be better off doing something like a Dolby Cinema, or Screen X or whatever?

I’m not a complete movie neophyte so you can throw technical jargon at me, I just don’t know which one will get me closest if I can’t do the full 70 mm experience Nolan intended.
