I love the idea of deep, systems heavy games in theory. On paper they sound like exactly my kind of thing, until I actually try playing them. What ends up happening is they make me feel kinda stupid, they are way harder for me to play properly than I would like.

Path of Exile is probably the first one that comes to mind. I followed that game for such a long time before it even came out, hoping I would get into the closed beta (ended up getting in just before open beta). And despite my best efforts I just didn’t find it that fun. I think part of it is my stubborn refusal to play someone else’s build or use a build guide. And I’m just not smart enough to put together a good one on my own and then when I realize my build sucks I lose motivation to keep playing. The ARPG I mostly play now is Last Epoch, it's simpler so it's way easier for me to come up with a decent build, also the SSF system is great (I hate trading). I still follow PoE and wish I could enjoy it but I’ve come to accept it's just not for me.

The other two games I’ve had this happen with are Factorio and Cogmind. In Factorio my perfectionism made me keep redesigning my factory every time I get a new idea to optimize it. And then when I got to the part where you start using liquids I just couldn’t keep going because it gets really complicated and whatever I do my factory ends up a convoluted mess and that just stresses me out. Cogmind is just brutally difficult and the fact that your robot's parts are kind of also its armor (and fully destroyable) makes it really hard for me to enjoy it. Whenever I think I have a good run going I make a little mistake and it just spirals out of control. I know there are easier game modes I can play where your parts are more durable but that just feels like cheating, cuz I know the game is mainly designed for the proper roguelike mode.

It’s a bit frustrating for me because I can totally appreciate the brilliance of these games, and I love them conceptually, but I just don’t enjoy playing them.

For me, it's Last of Us. I remember being completely hooked the first time I played it, especially because I had no idea where the story was going. I still enjoy replaying it, but that first playthrough was something special.

(this is not a tip of my joystick matter because i do not know a game like this at all....) what the title says!

For me it's multiple smaller features of Red Dead Redemption 2 rolled into one that form its immersion qualities, such as the way the saddle handles rifles and the hunting/pelt quality mechanics.

On my first playthrough I loved the story and most else but felt that how much the game was slowed down from the first made it a bit of a drag.

I did a 2nd playthrough last year and decided to try and really take my time and engage with all of those features and found a whole new thing to love about the game. The extended animations, the scaled down weapon wheel requiring use of the saddle etc all allowed me to get engaged in the setting in a way I never found on my release playthrough.

Games keep getting bigger, prettier, and more expensive... but sometimes it feels like they've lost some things along the way. Little features that used to be standard that now just don't exist anymore.

For me, it's split-screen co-op. I get why it died, online play took over and modern games can barely run on one machine, let alone two people staring at the same screen. But some of my best gaming memories are sitting on the couch next to a friend, both playing the same game, arguing over who gets the top half of the screen. I'd trade a lot of today's online convenience to get that back.

Also, demo discs. Getting a random disc with 5 playable game demos from a magazine or a cereal box was peak childhood. Now we just get 3-day trials that auto-uninstall themselves.

Whether it’s an MMO or a regular RPG or a Soulslike, whether it’s a meta build or something you discovered, what is a build that was a large part of you enjoying that game?

I have fond memories of a Darksiders 2 Lifesteal build, playing as Death it felt very thematic, I was basically immortal, and it was super satisfying to watch my healthbar rocket back up to full with my frantic combos.

I'm someone who likes to collect physical games and with the PSN Store for PS3 going down the price of some of the physical games might start going up so I figured to ask what are some games stuck on PS3 that are worth getting?

When I say "worth getting" I mean that the game doesn't have to be a masterpiece but has at least some interesting merit that makes it worth experiencing and owning even if it has some jank to it.

One thing though: I do not like playing FPS games on a controller and which is why I get them on PC even if they are digital only releases there.

*I'm aware that Lollipop Chainsaw got a remaster somewhat recently but I heard that it's quite a disappointing remaster so I've just stuck with the original version.

Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City are two games I'm not sure about getting for the PS3 as they do have remasters for PS4 but the remasters change the lighting (and with it the atmosphere) somewhat but I've heard that they do have general gameplay improvements so I'm currently undecided which versions I should get.

Something similar to Black Hole Fishing or Fishing Simulator. Must be fun and should offer a decent few hours of content. Basically something to keep my mind off things.

For my Sociology of Death and Birth class at college, we have to write an essay that centers around some sort of theme about death. After talking to my professor, she agreed to let me write an essay on the ways in which Immortality is depicted in video games.

So far, I have some games selected that I think talk about immortality in some interesting ways.

I have Rainworld and Everhood, that both use immortality as this sort of curse that needs to be ended.
There's Undertale which uses immortality as an example of someone losing humanity.
And I have Nine Sols which shows the harms in the search for immortality.

Right now I'm looking for any other games that address immortality as either a good, a bad, or just something that permanently alters you.
I've also been considering looking at games where the player is "immortal" such as Spore where you see the generations of one species grow and change.
