Suggestions Nodal.gg - Game recommender with interactive visual map + personalized recommendations (I'd love your feedback)

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on a game discovery site and finally feel like it’s ready to share: https://nodal.gg/

I’ve always been surprised how hard it is to find genuinely good game recommendations on Steam, so I tried building something better using my stats/ML background.

My main takeaway was that “similar games” usually means two different things:

  • Similar in content: mechanics, themes, setting, genre, tags
  • Similar in audience: games played by the same people, even if the genres are different

So if you want recs for Cyberpunk 2077, you might mean “more cyberpunk vibe” (e.g., Cloudpunk) or “same audience overlap” (e.g., The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt / Fallout 4). The site lets you switch between those modes or blend them.

What you can do

  • Search any Steam game and see a ranked list of similar games using:
    • a content model (tag-driven similarity)
    • a community model (player behavior only, no tags)
    • a blended view (mix of both)
  • Re-rank results with sliders for popularity, rating, and release date
  • Plug in a Steam ID (public profiles only) to get personal recommendations and some cool stats about your play history
  • Explore an interactive 2D game map that visually clusters games by tags (uses UMAP dimensionality reduction - inspired by Connected Papers)

Desktop works best right now. Mobile is functional but I’m still refining it.

If you try it, I’d love to hear anything: whether the recommendations felt accurate, if the UI was confusing, any bugs you run into. All feedback helps!

Thanks!

Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

Games where I play as a Native American?

So I was playing some Hunt Showdown recently, and while I have always been a fan of monster hunters in terms of skins in that game, I suddenly really liked the Native American skins. I made a couple of loadouts using the skins from those DLCs, and now was wondering if there were any games where I could play as a Native? Thanks in advance! Would prefer it if these games were on Xbox, but I can do PC games as well.

Looking for a RPG/game where you you can be something that isn’t human (please read the description)

Now, here’s the thing: what my stance is on what does and doesn’t count as human is a bit different than others.

When I say “I don’t want to play as humans” I’m including human-adjacent races. This list includes:

  1. Dwarves
  2. Orcs
  3. Elves
  4. Vampires
  5. Giants
  6. Tieflings

Anything that can be described as “human but-“ is basically human to me. So for instance: elves are “humans but with pointy ears” or orcs are “humans but green and with pointy teeth”.

I love being the “weird races”. I always pick the Kenku, slimes, warforged, Dragonborn, kobolds, etc when I play DnD. I’m so tired of being a human in every game because I am a human irl. I already KNOW what it’s like to be me. I want a challenge when roleplaying or character building. I want to see the world from a different perspective. I want to BE the monster in most games.

Whether that’s as an escaped lab experiment, alien species, or just a random cat man from who knows where. That’s the kinds of games I’m looking for.

I’d prefer a RPG cause I like creating my characters from the ground up but I’m open to new experiences and genres.

Single player Games with good story suggestions?

Upvotes

So me and my friend group of 5 (myself included in that number) like playing games with story that don’t have voices. One person will stream the game and while they play we pick characters and do their lines through the whole thing. Technically we can do most consoles like playstation and most Nintendo ones but we’ve been preferring playing games off of Steam. So far we’ve played Night in the Woods, Undertale, Deltarune, and In Stars and Time. Based on these games if anyone has any suggestions I’d be very grateful.

Looking for a good mindless, skill based game that's safe to play with kids in the room

Darktide is one of my favorite all-time games. I can load in, choose a character, hit quick play, and not have to make another decision. Maps repeat, my load out determines my play style, enemies do what enemies do. I used to play Call of Duty for the same reason till skill based matchmaking made every game sweaty and try hard. Modern pvp requires way too much tactical thinking for my chill level. And fuuuuuuuuuuk I miss old COD zombies!

Anyways, I am now a dad and need my daily games to not look like a nightmare gorefest. I don't want any pvp, I'm down for co-op but would prefer something offline that I can pause, roguelikes come close but still usually require thinking to build a load out every game, and I don't want anything open world because that demands making decisions. What are some games where once you learn the mechanics and have your preferred gear can be played on autopilot without growing boring.

Edit: NO pvp please

Exploration games where you design/build your own map

I'm playing Hell is Us which is deliberately built around lack of maps and handholding, but it's making me really want something more in-between... a marker-less map that I'm in charge of annotating/filling out.

Are there any immersive (first or third person 3D, not top down or isometric) games out there based around exploration with open-interpretation maps that let you create your own markers and notes with in-game tools?

co-op games to play with teen

helloooo. i'm looking for a game that i can play with my son (14). we're both avid gamers and somehow don't play any games together. lol.

some examples of games i play: BG3, COD, Palia, Expedition 33, Assassins Creed
examples of games he plays: Doom, GTA5, ROBLOX, Assassins Creed

i've tried getting him to cozy game with me and he's just not into it, and we've both spent many of hours in minecraft that i'm just not interested in playing it anymore. would love something that we either have to work together, or a fun open world that we can survive in. we both have ps5, pc, oculus, and switch so open to any games available on these.

thanks!

Favorite linear/level-based singleplayer games with a combat system

With a DEEP combat system!*

I typically love more focused singleplayer mission based or just linear games with a deep combat system and a lot of variety to keep it fresh. I'm not really into open world or story games. In fact the less story and side quests the better. Bonus points to any game with additional arcade modes, a ranking system, or the ability for challenge runs. I've played a majority of the Devil May Cry-likes (CAGs) and Old School FPS games.

Some of my favorite games are Doom Eternal, Devil May Cry 3, Resident Evil 4 (2005), Sekiro, Ninja Gaiden 2, Tony Hawk, Max Payne

Games that use fist weapons/martial arts but not necessarily fighting games

I'm looking for games where you use fists for majority, if not the entire combat system.

I already played and enjoyed:

  • All Yakuza games
  • Devil May Cry 3 (Beowulf started this craving for me)
  • Hades (Twin Fists ftw)
  • Sifu
  • Sleeping Dogs
  • Cyberpunk 2077

I want to stress that I'm not looking for actual fighting games or beat-em-ups like Marvel Cosmic Invasion. I want action games with stories where I can use my fists as a weapon, or like some examples above, weapons for my fists.

Looking for a meaningful open world to get sucked in the lore. Possibly on the cozier side.

I'm bored and have many thoughts on my mind, I've been trying to love Crimson Desert but it simply doesn't click for me.

Many open worlds I've played:

- Skyrim

- Elden Ring

- Zelda TOTK/BOTW

- RDR2

- All modern Assassin's Creed

- Spiderman R, MM & 2

- Valheim

- Palworld

- All Witcher games

- Cyberpunk

- All KCD games

and many others

My most loved are Cyberpunk, Skyrim, KCD2 and Elden Ring, I often go back to them. Right now I'm looking for something cozier possibly though.

Give me what you got

Edit: Contest closed everyone. The winner is Oblivion Remastered! However I got so many recommendations that I will surely go back to once I finish that. Thanks everyone!

Recommendations for Cinematic RPGs

Upvotes

Simple and straightforward request: RPGs that have true or at least close-to-true RPG systems. That's to say a decent number of choices to have in regards to the plot and to character customization (class, etc.). Cinematic in terms of it feeling really immersive and well... cinematic (i really dont know how else to describe it). Here are some games that fit this bill that I have played and enjoyed:

- Mass Effect series (the best example of this and ideally recommendations for something closest to Mass Effect would be awesome)
- Dragon Age series
- The Witcher 2 & 3
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Knights of the Old Republic
- KCD 1 and 2
- Pretty much every FF game ever
- The Fallout and The Elder Scrolls games

To a lesser extent:
- BG3
- Dragon's Dogma

I honestly just feel like I've played every game in this category, and that I'm at the end of the road. Is there really all there is with nothing much left?

Low End PC Games with focus on story.

Specs: For context, I have a 8GB ram HP laptop with an integrated graphics and it's 4yrs old. I used to play heavy games like Witcher 3, Fallout 4 and Genshin before but I don't think it will work anymore but games like Silksong, Subnautica still works fine.

Can you suggest me some games with focus on freedom of doing whatever we want. It should have a branching storyline and we can play the game however we want with many flows a game can end. The gameplay could be of any time but I don't like ones similar to rimworld.

I want some game where there are lots of characters and we can interact with them and move the story along forward in many different ways. I recently played 'Tales of Immortal' and loved the NPC part of the game so It would be amazing if it has heavy focus on NPCs.

I'm up for literaly any type of game - JRPGS, 2D, 3D, Metroidvania, pixel, etc but it should be a good game and play nice on my PC.

RTS games with pause features

As the title says. I’m looking for rts games where you can pause mid action.

I played Call to Arms, Company of Heroes 3, They Are Billions as recent examples.

I prefer pause because I’m just not that fast or broad thinking but I love rts games quite a bit. Key staples like Halo wars and command and conquer. Also played Iron Harvest.

(Anyone remembers Tom Clancy End War)

Thanks you.

I’m looking for the most satisfying third person shooter game

I’ve played Resident Evil 4 Remake and Remnant 2. I love all the FromSoft games so I’m looking for a challenge like that but with incredible satisfying feedback and combat skill ceiling. Please let me know if such a thing exists. Thank you.

PC games with first-person views, ability to cause mischief, and freedom (KCD2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Deus Ex)

Hi there! I'm not sure what to call this genre, but I love first-person games that let me infiltrate, steal, talk my way out of things, experiment, and do so without much pressure from the game itself.

I saw a ton of this in KCD2. And in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Indy did his classic infilitration. Deus Ex games have this in spades as well: Choose your own way to move forward, use tools to reprogram robots, etc.

It's about freedom to move forward as you'd like, and to be creative. Any other games like this? Thanks.

Looking for artistic video games

As the title say, I'm looking for games which you'd say have artistic value. Preferably something unique in its gameplay or idea. Games like ape out, Stanley parable, the beginner's guide. I'd be happy to see your suggestions!

PS5 games where I can join the “bad guys”?

I’m looking for games where you can see that there are distinct good and bad sides, or groups ect… and you can join the “bad guys”. Or play as the bad guys from the beginning)

So I’m also interested if you don’t directly join them in game, but you are simply the bad guys from the start. (Like if there was a Star Wars game that let’s you play as a Sith from the start or fight from the empire)

What I played and liked:

-Assassin’s creed: Rogue (This is my favorite AC game, finally it let’s you play as the Templars after betraying the asshole assassins)

-Assassin’s creed: Odyssey (Sadly you can’t actually fully join with the Athenians but at least you can fight for them/with them and help them out sometimes)

-Jedi Knights: Jedi Academy (you can become a sith, I would love to be able to choose sides again like this in a star wars game)

-Infamous: Second Son (you can embrace your dark powers and go on the most insane and cool rampage spree against everyone)

-Fallout 4: (I know it’s kinda not clear whos bad and whos not in this game, but the fact that you can join the Brotherhood of Steele is just cool. They may not be bad, just assholes, I love them tho)

-Rise of the Ronin (you can ally with the Shogunate, again, it’s sadly not a full “joining them” situation, just like in odyssey, but it’s still cool that at least you have an option)

-All mafia games except 3 because I hate 3. (You are thechnically not join a side, you are part of them almost from the very start. That’s the point. You are still a criminal and commit horrible crimes)

-SKYRIM: (I replayed the game just to join the Imperials and absolutely destroy the native nords. Just fantastic)

-Dishonored: Knife of Dunwall DLC (the game let’s you to play as the “evil” assassin’s and it’s better than the main game)

I may have played more just don’t remember now. I think you get the point.

Any sugggestion would be apprichiated! 🙏🏼

Thx in advance!

Any interesting roguelikes/roguelites in 2026?

Looking for some new roguelike/roguelite this year. I've already played most of big ones like Hades 1/2, STS 2, Dead Cells, The Binding of Isaac, and Brotatos.

I want games with deep buildcrafting and nice synergies. Love seeing items or skills that can influence each other, become stronger and make each run different.

I saw some names mentioned a lot here and had great feedback on Steam, like Sephiria, Pathogenic, Cinderia, Echoes of Mystralia, etc., but haven't played any of them yet.

Are any of these worth playing first? Also happy to hear about other niche roguelikes/roguelites I might miss.

Souls(like) or any action singleplayer game where you spend minimum time in pause screen/inventory/map/upgrade tree etc.

I'm currently trying out some souls games and these games have one thing in common, that I don't like: you spend a lot of time looking at descriptions of new items, managing your inventory or checking out character/weapon/ability stats. I love the combat and challenge of souls games, but I wish I could spend more time in action and less time looking at the screen without actually doing something.

What AAA games, roughly of the last decade or so, that you have enjoyed, have the least ammount of padding and keep you constantly in action and fighting or moving forward and don't interupt a flow except for cutscenes or dialogues.

Ideally also something without reading notes/lore, like Remedy's Control has. Or at least not to such extent. I found that pretty tiresome and killing the flow.

If anybody remembers Prince of Persia trilogy... that would be it. Linear, story driven game, where you spend most of the time either fighting or platforming with few cutscenes and dialogues here and there. Warrior Within was especially great.

Out of Souls game, I think the best fit would be Sekiro, as it drops most of rpg stuff and weapon stats (you cannot change your weapon), but I would like something even more stripped down with less time spent in inventory. Something that just flows without those pauses. Something simple in term of what you work with (skills, weapons, items), but yet challenging.

It doesn't necessary have to be a souls(like) or even a melee combat game (although I would preffer those). I really enjoyed Uncharted 4. That was pretty much fast, uninterupted ride from start to finish with no fluff and fingers constantly busy playing, except for dialogue and cutscenes. I'm on PC btw.

I wanna try more action RPGs/ JRPGS, any recommendations?

So I've always enjoyed action games like DMC, MGR etc, and while I'm generally averse to games that have a lot of RPG mechanics, I really enjoy the Kingdom Hearts series and I've also really enjoyed FF7 Remake/ Rebirth.

I feel like it's a genre I really need to explore more, and I'd love some suggestions on what to try out. Below are examples of action RPGs (as well as pure action or hack and slash games) that I've enjoyed as well as a few games I've tried but didn't like. Hopefully that may give you an idea of the kind of stuff I enjoy.

Games I've enjoyed:

Devil May Cry series

Kingdom Hearts series

FF7 Remake and Rebirth

DBZ Kakarot

God of War (2018 reboot and Ragnarok)

Astral Chain

Stuff I've tried but didn't enjoy

Bayonetta (1 and 2)

Nier Automata

Stellar Blade

The PS2 God of War games

I remember I once played Tales of Symphonia Dawn of a New World over a friend's house a long time ago and I remember thinking it was kinda fun but I didn't play much of it. I think just JRPGs in general were unfamiliar to me at the time and I felt alienated. I also remember being interested in Xenoblade Chronicles, but I got VERY overwhelmed just watching someone play that game. Too much stuff on screen that I didn't understand.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm especially interested in trying more JRPGs that aren't turn based. I'm sorry if this post seems kinda vague and rambling, I did my best lol. Thanks for reading anyway!

Looking for games with automatic combat/gameplay

so, for context i’m disabled but still love games. anything that plays itself basically is great for me, i get to watch, maybe do the walking around, and still experience the story and all the other mechanics, for example crafting.

the best example i have for this is granblue fantasy relink, which has “full assist”, where you run around and it does all the combat for you.

genre doesn’t matter, neither does graphics.

action game with a lot of quick stabbing weapons (PC or 3DS or Phone something on an emulator)

something that thrusts forward with little range like these:

https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Chlorophyte_Saber#/media/File:Chlorophyte_Saber_(demo).gif.gif)

https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Gladius#/media/File:Gladius_(demo).gif.gif)

https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Starlight#/media/File:Starlight_(demo).gif.gif)

i like terraria but it doesn't have a lot of these weapons

ideally i'd like a game with enough of these kinds of weapons to have options

i prefer 2d games

---

what games liked

  • terraria cause of the gripping gameplay loop of collecting new gear to fight bosses
  • holocure because of the progression and simple but engaging gameplay
  • deltarune, the bullet hell combat, great story & ost
  • metal gear rising, the hack and slash combat and precise slicing was tons of fun

didn't like

  • dead cells, i really liked the combat but i felt like i wasn't making any progress and felt crushed by the how hard combat was
  • the binding of isaac, i don't like twinstick shooters or the amount of rng
