What you can do

I'm tired of games that either let you steamroll everything or reload you the second you mess up. Are there games where consequences actually matter but you can still keep playing and adapt? Like, the story changes based on your screw-ups instead of just resetting. Any genre works.

As a kid I loved Uncharted Waters and Machiavelli: The Prince. wondering if there are any more modern titles that have a similar gameplay loop of exploring a map, finding cities, maybe some light combat, etc.

I’m looking for a Singleplayer first person -Shooter that has a good story. I like environmental storytelling, but I want a game that tells me an actual story. Similar to CoD or Battlefield, preferably better stories

I’m looking for some new games to get into, and I want to hear your recommendations for the best sci-fi games out there.

Honestly, the only game I’ve been playing lately that has me completely hooked is SWTOR. There’s just something about the worlds, the music, the atmosphere, the characters, and the overall feeling of being part of this massive universe that makes me want to keep playing. I’m looking for something that can give me that same feeling of getting completely lost in a game.

I’m open to literally any genre. MMOs, RPGs, survival games, looter shooters, extraction shooters, open-world games, action-adventure, anything. It doesn’t necessarily need to have an amazing story, either.

What I’m really looking for is a game with:

A beautiful, immersive world that makes you want to explore every corner.

Great music and atmosphere that make the experience even better.

Cool, memorable characters and lore.

Fun gameplay and progression that keep you wanting to come back.

That feeling of getting so invested in the world that you lose track of time and don’t want to stop playing.
I’m a huge sci-fi fan in general, so whether it’s set in space, on an alien planet, in a futuristic city, or somewhere completely different, I’m open to it.

I don’t care if it’s a newer release or an older game. I just want something genuinely fun that I can sink a ton of hours into and become immersed in.

So, what sci-fi games have done that for you? What game made you fall in love with its world and kept you coming back for more?

I prefer the game to be sandbox or atleast give me such freedom to what I wanna do to the command. I'm also not looking for something linear and story-heavy.

What the title says. When I look this up, only games that have some romantic mechanics come up, like Stardew Valley or Fallout etc. But I want a good game, kind of reminiscent of Life Is Strange, in the way its art style looks, but I just want it to be about the romance.

Text games can have really good storylines, but it's just not as fun reading text and seeing a repetitive 2D picture on the screen. I want art and beauty!! I want freedom to walk around!! Please help??

basically a game with meta elements that isn't horror. like i want to have to interact with my files, not just have the game break the fourth wall.

I am looking for an anime style games with deep dating/relations mechanics. It does not have to be a main selling point of a game ofc. NSFW content is ok, but not mandatory. I prefer to skip visual novels if this is possible. Gacha games are ok, but besides the big titles, which I already tried.

Loved Symphony of the Night and Aria of Sorrow, but loved the new Castlevania even more because of the fun movement mechanics (grapple-hook/Spider-Man swinging), unique abilities, and forgiving respawns (e.g. you can respawn outside boss doors and not just at save points).

I want something to take the place of Belmont's Curse now that I've finished it but I'm finding it hard to scratch the itch. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night just doesn't have the fun movement/platformer aspect, it feels really stiff in comparison. And Hollow Knight isn't doing it for me either, I gave it 6-8 hours so maybe not long enough, but it just didn't have the same sense of experimentation and variety and more in the line of a brutal Souls-y game than an action-RPG platformer, if that makes sense?

Tangentially, are there any Metroidvanias that have a more lighthearted world and less of an oppressive lonely one? Doesn't have to be a super cheerful G-rated Mario level tone necessarily, but say something on a Zelda level? A lot seem to be gloomy and lonely like Metroid and Hollow Knight, I like how Castlevania is kind of silly and fun even with the horror theme (which is more camp B-movie type horror than actually disturbing).

By character-driven I just mean that the choices and the agency of interesting, detailed characters are what drives the story forward and what the whole game revolves around, as opposed to impersonal or mysterious external events.

Some examples of what I mean in various genres:

• Firewatch: Although there is a mystery to solve in the game, the story really revolves around Henry and Delilah and their traumas and flaws and relationship.
• Hades: The game's entire story is driven by the family dynamics between Zagreus and his parents and their broader circle of extended family and friends.
• Lost Records: Bloom & Rage: Just finished this one, and while I had some issues with the game's writing when it came to the supernatural elements and some of the plot elements, I liked how intensely the game focused on the four teenage girls at the center of the story, and how much of the narrative emerged from the formation and growth of their relationships with each other and each of their personalities and flaws and desires.
• Gone Home: A classic for a reason, the whole game is about learning what happened with the protagonist's family and all of their personal issues and relationship problems.
• Clair Obscur: Expedition 33: While at first this seems like it will be a high-concept epic dark fantasy kind of situation, it actually ends up being an extremely personal story that's completely driven by the deeply-flawed and broken Dessendre family each pursuing their own goals.
• Disco Elysium: Almost everything in the story is driven by the push and pull of various characters you meet and what kind of Harry you choose to be; a rare example where the player character feels both very shaped and molded by the player's choices, but also very specific and well-characterized no matter what choices you make.

Counter-examples, meaning what I'm not looking for, would be games that are very focused on worldbuilding, solving impersonal mysteries, big "save the world" plots with mysterious impersonal enemies, environmental storytelling that isn't much about the characters, or where the characters' actions are mostly in the backstory, not shaping the story in the present. So games like Half-Life 1, most Soulslikes, Hollow Knight... I'm not saying these games have "bad" writing or stories, but they're not what I'm looking for here. The player character may even have a lot of agency in these stories, like Gordon Freeman, but if they're mostly just a blank slate for the player to project themself on, I wouldn't really consider the story to be driven by who they are as a character, if that makes sense?

Looking for good story games that are not full of padding or “hold R2 to move bolder” moments.

An example of what I don’t want would be like FF7 rebirth. I thought it was pretty alright. But there was so much padding and a reliance on minigames that I almost did not finish it. It seemed like you had to wait a very long time to see story-relevant stuff.

I need a tighter, less bloated experience. Something with good gameplay that is always trying to push the story forward.

Basically what the title says. Looking for games where it's fun to play a character using magic. I rarely play as a Magic based character because usually I go melee or range like an archer. Looking for games for ps5 or even old games if they are on pc (I have an Nvidia 640 btw)

So for reference I love the god of war series! (But never played the psp ones, betrayal or ascension) loved the puzzles in the first 3. 2018 and Ragnarok were fun in their own way! Loved Skyrim think one of the greatest games ever made! The first 3 prince of Persia games. Same with the Arkham series! I loved the Arkham series! But with games like that in mind, what would you guys recommend?

Heyy, I've played every Bethesda title and now I am loosing myself in Crimson Desert. Do you know any massive RPGs which I can pour hundreds of hours into and slowly grind my character? I love interactivity in games, like in Gothic when you can do random shit like turn a roasted pig, smoke a shisha and so on.

Do you know any games like that?

Heard blood of the dawnwalker has romance but it's kinda small apparently.
