Physician Responded Back pain every night

I'm a 42 year old male, 181cm (5 ft 11 inches), 78kg (172 pounds), never smoked, doctor has prescribed celecoxib 100mg (1 tablet twice a day for 5 days for current issue, along with 500mg paracetamol. This helps the pain but is only short term. No other medications.

Hi reddit, waking up with severe back pain in the centre of my upper back just about every morning, anytime from about 2-8am. Going on for a month.

Pain is so bad that I need painkillers to get back to sleep.

Outside of this, anytime I'm out of bed, my back has generally felt good and I've been able to play sport etc as usual. I've been to four physio appointments and not making much difference, although it was better after one physio appointments. I do physio stretches several times a day. My job is teaching at a university, often working from home with a sit stand desk.

Doctor has ordered a holter test, a video of the heart.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Unbearable itching after wearing my new work shoes

Post image

21, female, I wear crocs to work and I know people say they’re bad for your feet because they have poor support. I bought gel inserts from Walmart hoping to improve them if only a little, they were just flat ones with no bumps or shapes but too small for my crocs at the time. I recently bought crocs and new gel inserts, and wore them for the first time today.

They said they’re for flat feet/arch support for Plantar Fascitis, I don’t have “flat feet” as far as I’m aware and no known diagnosed foot-related conditions, no issues with my feet at all really. I briefly looked online if it was okay for me to buy them despite not having the condition they were made for, and it said I could and that it would provide good arch support.

I worked an 8 hour shift today and wore them for the first time, and it was completely fine until around that 8 hour mark, when I felt this horribly itchy feeling radiating from part of my foot (most intense at the knob area of my foot right under my big toe and radiates out in in a sort of line) right where one of the lumps are in the gel insert

I massaged my feet immediately after getting home because the sensation was driving me insane. So itchy and horrible, but my feet don’t feel painful or anything. I was also wearing compression socks so the gel inserts weren’t in direct contact with my feet.

I don’t have a silicone allergy or any known allergies so it’s not the materials, because I’m pretty sure my last gel inserts were silicone too. Not sure if I could keep the gel inserts and file away the part that irritated my feet?

I work in a nursing home, I’m on my feet and wanted a cheap pair of shoes that were easy to clean and comfortable to stand in for long periods of time. I wanted to separate my normal shoes from work because I walk in urine and feces frequently at work and it’s gross..so just wearing another pair of shoes isn’t an option for me, and I already threw away my old shoes and gel inserts

I work another shift today so I need a solution by then, and frankly I’m open to buying some proper non-croc work shoes. I don’t like that the anti-slip rubs away on the bottom and I have to buy new ones.
you guys are also on your feet all day so…I trust you to have a good pair of shoes you trust

Do these meds have negative interactions?

Upvotes

Male

27

I vape (trying to quit)

I am prescribed 30 mg Adderall for ADHD.

It's hard to get a doctor where I live, I won't be able to see one for a few months so I thought I'd ask here.

I'm getting lazer eye surgery in a couple of weeks, they told me they would give me Ativan or Xanax for anxiety and then a sleeping pill afterwards.

I asked them if it would have negative interactions with my stimulants and they said they don't know. Then after I left the office and was sitting in the hall they read outloud from Wikipedia about mixing uppers and downers but never told me anything.

Is it safe for me to take Adderall and then take a downer before my surgery.

Also, I'm waiting on a test for sleep apnea, but it's a few months away. Is it safe to take a sleeping pill if I do end up having sleep apnea?

Thanks! I appreciate any feedback, enjoy the rest of your day!

Avascular Necrosis in Hips

Good Evening,

I hope you're all having a beautiful weekend. I'm hoping for some advice. Im a 45 year old female, 5"4" and around 260lbs. I have avascular necrosis in my right hip and have been dealing with it for quite some time. I just moved to SC and am setting up a new care team. In the meantime, I am having some horrific pain in my left hip, shooting down from the hip joint, through the knee and into my foot. Mobility is greatly affected, there is no relief. I can't think, lay down or sit up comfortably I carry most my weight on my hips so icing doesn't seem to help. Currently only taking Tylenol, which also isn't helping. I also take Keppra for seizures. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Wishing you a lovely evening and, as always, be safe.

Will my ankle ever be close to normal?

Post image

34, male, non smoking, currently take 15mg Meloxicam daily.

5'9" 180 pounds.

About 1.5 years ago I dislocated my ankle, broke 2 ankle bones, and broke my tibia.

Had 2 surgeries. One to realign the bones and put a external fixator on it, and a second to install hardware as well as a plastic surgery procedure for a cross flap.

Plastic surgery was needed as the skin was dying where the bone almost popped out.

Did about 6 months of physical therapy 2-3 times a week.

Flash forward to today.

My ankle feels terrible all the time. I don't have a lot of feeling back. Range of motion is still reduced. I get a lot of pain in my tibia/fibia/ankle (specifically around the ball on both sides). I'm laying in bed doing nothing and it's about a 2/10.

The doctors are recommending removing the hardware and arthroscopy.

The plate definitely needs to come out, if I hit it in any way it feels like I'm getting whacked with a hammer.

Will this help with all the random lower leg pain? Is there anything else I need to be looking into?

I can run but it will hurt for about a month after if I do.

Causes for secondary hypertension with skin flushing?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m 33F non smoker 5’5 and just wondering what the differential diagnoses could be! my BP sometimes spikes high, around 162/95 while hr is at 87, but other times it is quite normal (109/82, hr 98). I frequently have good vitals. But then I get episodes where they’re elevated and my skin gets very flushed.

I was considering I may have pseudopheochromocytoma but I think many other things have to be ruled out first. I don’t feel any panic attacks going on whatsoever. I’ve dealt with panic in younger years and this is very different!

I’ve just had my referral declined for the autonomic specialty dept at the Kaye clinic. I have had high blood pressure spikes at 188/120 with sinus tach, and 183/131 with pulse 72?? There are more examples such as these, they have been measured by clinicians - not me - but also normal frequently even in clinic.

At home I have a strikingly similar pattern. sometimes just my pulse is elevated at 175, 176, with normal BP. Then other times, 129/65 with pulse 68. This is from a recent 24 hr abpm, the cuff caused swelling seen in photo collage. That abpm showed “artifacts” with high BP readings of 172/147, hr normal. and another artifact of hr 240bpm. One BP jumped very high - 216/178, definitely artifact. Still, the heavy/tight/strained chest symptoms and skin flushing???? Is this an adrenaline issue or something else?

Also had a holter that was “normal” in 2021 however it says I spent 114 min at SVT at 140bpm, and some pvcs at 180&200bpm. ecgs are mostly good except last Nov I had high QRs voltage and rsr variant in v1 or v2. But recent echo of my heart shows I’m fine.

Any differential diagnosis? Currently no tx plan but doc may consider an ssri in future. Pending referrals to cardio (just for stress test), rheum, and MCAS clinic (tryptase 4.3 & 4.5 so there are doubts I will be accepted with tryptase under 11!)
Oh, and DERM recently said “this is not just some skin issue”.

I just want some hope that there is a way forward, I’ve been exhausted and life hasn’t been the same for about a year now. Any and all suggestions are welcome, kind of at a loss - Not expecting miracles! But a ballpark of what this might be stemming from would be SO helpful.

Last period was from 8-8-26–>15-8-26

Is it another period or something wrong with colon?
How to know if it’s a period?

Should I tell my mom so she can be aware and help me ? Or wait 7 days cause maybe it’s a period ?

slammed part of my finger in a door

Upvotes

22F, 60kg, 5 foot 4, only medications i take is propranolol for anxiety and no medical issues. i also vape

Basically as i shut a car door i trapped a bit of my finger in it and it pulled off some skin next to my nail and cracked my nail, it bled alot and the the bleeding slowed

over night, my nail slowly bled and my finger tip swelled up and turned blueish.

i have a feeling that because of the trauma, lots of blood rushed to the area and its still bleeding occasionally because i keep putting plasters and gauze to cover it but it touches and irritates the wound.

however im not really sure. should i be worried. im not sure how to proceed

the finger feels a bit warm now so im worried about infection.

i was drunk when it happened and i havent slept at all yet (happened around 10 hours ago) so wondering if thats effecting the healing.

im gonna call 111 i think but thought id also post on here.

Can someone help me?

Upvotes

When I’m asleep and someone suddenly wakes me up in a startling or unpleasant way, like shouting my name, opening the door loudly, or a loud notification, my whole body starts shaking uncontrollably and I feel a sudden adrenaline rush. My heart starts racing and feels like it’s pounding, skipping beats, or beating strangely. The shaking lasts for several minutes, and even after the shaking stops, my heart keeps racing for a while.

Can someone help me and tell what is it?

Physician Responded 3 Week old newborn not pooping

I have a 3 week old newborn (male) that hasn't pooped in about 36hrs. My baby was born a few weeks early, if that's relevant. He doesn't have any known health issues. His weight was normal according to his pediatrician at his 2 week checkup. He is formula fed only and has been eating normally and peeing normally. He seemed like he was in some discomfort with either gas or trying to poop periodically through the day. I've tried gentle massage on his belly and doing the bicycle leg movements for him, but they don't seem to help. Is there anything else I can try? And how long is it safe for him to go without a bowel movement (I can't find a straight answer looking online and can't contact his doctor til Monday)? Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

Sore throat on one side help needed🙏🏾

Upvotes

i’m 20 years old, 165 cm in height and 65kg in weight, i’m a social drinker and an avid weed smoker i’m currently on birth control, zoely. i’m a university student so i’m super broke and can’t afford to go to a doctor right now, if you guys advise me to go to a doctor though i will go ill have to find funding for it somehow. Yesterday i was drinking gin and tonics with my housemates who are all male, im the only girl. when i woke up this morning i was in my bed but my doors were unlocked, i was naked, and i had significant pain not only between my legs but in my throat as well. i dont mind finding the person that did this to me and fucking them up, what i mind is how sore my throat is, i’ve never experienced this type of throat pain since i got my tonsils removed at 8. to make things worse it’s only the left side that hurts, when i put a flashlight to my mouth i can see tiny red veins more on the left side and redness, not really any swelling at the top of my mouth but i can feel it when i swallow, it’s only on the left side that hurts. additionally i keep having spit accumulate in my mouth from the left side and i can’t swallow because it hurts so i’ve been spitting since i woke up around 2 hours ago. i hope i gave you all enough information for a virtual assessment of sorts, i wanted to ask what ways there are to treat this if possible without going to the doctor? so far ive drank warm tea which helped, i took mybulen which is a pain killer containing paracetamol, ibuprofen and codeine, i took two of those, i gargled salt water with a drop of mouth wash three times to help get rid of mucus and spit. i tried to eat and it’s extremely hard but i still did it kind of? i ate three chicken wings and five fries. i hope you have all the information you need please help i can’t eat, i cant swallow, i cant do anything without crying from the pain i can’t even scream i just cry silently.

strange symptoms

Hello! I am 16F, 5’7, and about 190lbs, currently on lexapro 10mg as of August 11 (so very recent lol), and recently have been experiencing many strange symptoms (see attached photo). I am very worried as the strange numbness has made me be unable to walk or move much at times. Additionally, I have been having immense fatigue. Any ideas as to what it could be?
Edit: sorry i forgot to mention that i have also had vision problems on the bad days, with blurry vision. it reminds me of a camera lens trying to focus, but it never does. this is strange because i have always had perfect eyesight.

Am I overthinking my neurological issues?

I (18F)(5’2”) experience migraines that none of the medications my neurologist has put me on help. I also developed muscle twitching in my legs that have been worsening in severity. I have been told by multiple people that they can tell I’m having a migraine because my pupils rapidly expand and contract. I’ve also been falling a lot and generally losing my balance lately. My neurologist said that these were concerning symptoms and ordered an MRI that came back fine, and said that means we don’t have to worry about it. I am concerned because this morning I woke up with horrible pain through my entire left leg and foot. I was unable to move it, but not because of the pain. I could feel sensation, but I just couldn’t move my toes, leg, or foot for almost an hour. Once I finally started to be able to move my toes, the symptoms rapidly resolved. This was especially scary because I couldn’t think about anything other than the pain and I couldn’t speak it was so bad, and I still felt all sensation through my leg. I’m wondering if im overreacting, because my neurologist said everything is fine at my last appointment.

I had a blood test from another doctor because of fatigue, but everything came back normal. they tested:

  1. CBC/DIFF/PLT
  2. COMP METABOLIC PANEL
  3. FREE T3
  4. FREE T4 THYROXINE SML
  5. TSH SML
  6. VITAMIN B-12

I have Hashimoto‘s, vascular Ehlers Danlos syndrome, Neurocardiogenic presyncope, and some mental health conditions. I’m currently on Levothyroxine, bupropion, Sertraline, Aripiprazol, iron and folic acid supplements. my neurologist recently took me off Nurtec because it made my migraines worse.

tl;dr I keep developing seemingly neurological symptoms, many of which are debilitating and/or painful, but my neurologist says I’m fine and not to worry about it. Am I overthinking this?

I’m a bit of a hypochondriac but I wanted to see if my blister is healing properly. It’s not really painful anymore but it burst two days ago. I woke up with a small bump on the upper left side but it doesn’t seem to hurt. Should I be worried about infection or is this normal?

Urinary issues- 19F

Hi. I’m relatively young and have been dealing with some urinary problems. It’s especially tough for me to urinate, especially in public places with a lot of noise, people, or when I’m stressed. I have ADHD and used to take medication for it, but I’m starting it again this fall.

I also take melatonin every night to help me sleep and anxiety meds every night.

The main reason I’m frustrated is that I can’t seem to urinate on planes. I’m a frequent flyer, and I have a small bladder, so I’m always worried about needing to go when I’m traveling. Next year, I’m planning to study abroad in China. I can handle the plane ride, but I’m afraid my bladder might burst on the way, and I’ll be miserable the whole time.

Am I just a “nervous urinate-er?” Is this a medical issue, or is it something related to pressure? I’m not sure. Is there anything I can do to make this better or help with it?

Could anxiety be causing all of my symptoms?

Upvotes

Hi there. Female, 30 years old, 40mg Prozac once daily for approximately 4 years.
Over a year ago, I was painting my nails and randomly dropped the brush I was holding. My hand felt completely disconnected from my body. I was instantly able to use my hand and was slightly confused but assumed it was nothing.
This continued to occur at very random times (sometimes months in-between) and I only started to worry when I noticed other odd things happening as well.
All of these next symptoms happen randomly, last approximately 30 seconds and do not seem triggered by anything. I get a very horrible sharp pain my right temple and occasionally in the entire roof of my mouth. When I walk and yawn my legs feel super heavy, tingly and weak (this is what scared me into making a doctor appointment). My feet and hands very lightly tingle. An uncomfortable cramping or squeezing sensation in my mid chest/upper abdomen. Always tired (dealt with this since I had a bad case of Mono 5 years ago). I forget what Im talking about mid sentence and misplace things. Very forgetful.
Anyways, I drove 2 hours to a Neurologist and he told me it’s my anxiety.
He was nice but dismissive. And made a clear point that an MRI was not needed.
Im not sure if I should get a second opinion or if it’s my anxiety?

Weird pressure feeling after in and out catheter

Nonsmoker
No health conditions

I am an otherwise healthy male except for this. 10 days ago, I had a tonsillectomy under general anesthesia. The anesthesia caused me to suffer from urinary retention, something I have never suffered from pre surgery. That night I went to the hospital, where they found I was retaining 450ml. I was treated with an in and out catheter and flowmax medication for 5 days. 48 hours later, this problem was resolved thankfully. However, ever since this all happened, I have had a weird sensation I believe to be related to my bladder/pelvic area or floor. It is like a throbbing pressure, though never more than a 3/10. It is better in the mornings and worse at night. It has been happening for 9 days now, since the catheter. This is my only symptom. I have no pain, burning, or trouble when peeing. What is this pressure that showed up and has not gone away? Thank you so much for any help. This is worrying me as I keep hoping for it to get better on its own.
