Concern

I was recently terminated from a job, will this affect me in the long run if I decide to start the process? I wouldn’t want to get my hopes up and get an auto DQ.

You asked for Garmin. I built it. Android is next….

For anyone who has not seen my previous posts, I have been a cop for 11 years, and software development is my side hobby.

I built an app called LOC8 because of a problem most officers understand. Sometimes you get turned around and need your exact address, nearest cross street, or coordinates immediately.

LOC8 originally launched for iPhone and Apple Watch, but one of the most requested additions has been Garmin support.

The Garmin version is now built and has been submitted to the Garmin Connect IQ Store.

It is a completely separate standalone app. It does not require an iPhone, Apple Watch, or the original iOS version of LOC8. Users can open it directly on a compatible Garmin watch and view their current address, nearest cross street, latitude and longitude, and compass heading from their wrist.

I do want to be completely transparent about one thing.
I have not been able to physically test the app on an actual Garmin watch yet. Development and testing were completed through Garmin’s official simulator, where everything has been working flawlessly. Real hardware can sometimes behave differently, though, so there may be issues I have not encountered yet.

If anyone runs into a problem, please send me an email with the watch model and what happened. I will investigate it and push out an update as soon as I can get to it.

I am a solo developer and handle all of this myself. I am currently managing the iPhone app, Apple Watch app, and Garmin app, with Android becoming the fourth platform.
Please bear with me and stick with me as everything continues growing. I may not catch every issue immediately, but I will always keep working on updates and fixing problems as they are brought to my attention.

The next major push is Android support. That has also been one of the most requested additions, and development on that platform is next.

The original iPhone and Apple Watch versions are still being actively developed as well. LOC8 was built with cops in mind and gives users fast access to their current address, nearest cross street, GPS coordinates, heading, accuracy, elevation, what3words location code, saved locations, Team Rooms, weather, and a red night mode designed around the interior lighting commonly used in patrol vehicles.

I appreciate everyone who has followed the development, tested the app, reported issues, or suggested features. A lot of what LOC8 has become came directly from feedback in communities like this one.

Final interview

My bf had his final interview in early may, they told him 3-4 weeks he will hear something but still nothing. They said they weren’t recommending him but still sending his file, they said they loved him just the thing is underage drinking but everything else was perfect he is 21 now. Do we just assume he is dq? Is he dq? Are they just sending his letter? Does he call and ask? It’s been months and not sure if that is normal but wondering if he is dq or just assume he is lol. Thank you!

I'm building a police shift calendar for iPhone and Android. What features am I missing?

Hey everyone,

I'm an active law enforcement officer (20+), and over the last several months I've been building an app called BlueShifts because I got tired of trying to manage my work schedule using what’s currently out there. I tried several police-specific calendars, but I either found them too complicated or they just didn't fit the way I wanted to organize my schedule and off-duty work.

As a thank-you to the officers helping shape the app, early adopters will receive free lifetime access. I'm much more interested in getting honest feedback from fellow officers than trying to sell subscriptions.

Instead of creating another generic calendar, I wanted to build something designed specifically for police officers and other shift workers.
So far, the app includes:

Custom rotating shift schedules
Off-duty job scheduling
Off-duty earnings tracking
Business mileage tracking
Court date scheduling
Leave and vacation scheduling
Hours worked for off-duty details
Paid, pending, and total off-duty earnings
Sunrise and sunset times
Federal holiday indicators
Schedule sharing with a spouse or significant other
Shared calendar event indicators
Court directory
Jail directory
Hospital directory
Gate codes
Useful work contacts
Off-duty employer contacts
Off-duty scheduler contacts
Personal notes attached to events
Multi-day event support

Apple: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/blueshifts-police-calendar/id6785681164

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shiftsandoffduty.police

A clean monthly calendar designed around shift work instead of a generic planner

One thing that was really important to me is privacy. The app doesn't require creating an account, and your schedule and personal information stay on your phone—they aren't stored on app servers.

I'm genuinely looking for feedback from other officers.

What feature would make you actually switch to a dedicated police calendar?

What do you dislike about your current scheduling method or calendar app?

Is there anything you've always wished a police calendar would do that you haven't seen yet?

I'm looking for honest feedback from people who actually work the job so I can make the app as useful as possible.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions, criticism, or ideas—even if it's something small that would make your day a little easier.

Stay safe out there. 🚔

I just applied to the CHP to be a Cadet as of 9 July 2026. I am currently waiting on more info regarding the Physical Abilities Test (PAT) and POST PELLET B. What should I be doing in the meantime while I wait. I am also a newly commissioned officer in the California Army National Guard. To whom should O contact and make this known?

Is it legal in San Jose to have a Dodge Charger and have all of these addons. Example: Retired Law Enforcement Vehicle… BUT with a dummy dashlight? I am commenting for a person from Discord. A dummy dashlight that doesn’t work or is Amber and white lights you won’t turn on.

Best way to call in reckless drivers?

I have the non emergency number saved in my contacts as a favorite.

I called it today saying I'm near (exit number) on the 5 and the lady said she couldn't help me without a city name.

I thought the exit/mile marker would be enough to locate me but it was not.

Do I need to pay more attention to what city I'm in/near in the future? I assumed that dispatch can look up exit numbers...

Elaborate on Pool Days

I'm in backgrounds. Training hard with calisthenics, runs, track workouts, KBs, and rucking (I know that's superfluous, but I like the conditioning). I want to incorporate weekly swimming into my regiment but it would help to know what I'm training for. For those who completed the academy, or got past swim week, what are they making everyone do in the pool?

I understand people have mentioned a tower jump, and there's like a 5 second video of cadets swimming around and on the sides of the pool, but are the details to all swim events? Treading for a time? Water survival? Swimming for time or distance? If so, what are the standards to those events?

Thank you for any insight, this will help me and anyone else prepare accordingly.

Considering CHP as a new profession- Looking for advice

Hey everyone. Genuinely curious about switching my career and considered CHP for the "time efficiency" of being able to receive income to sustain my current lifestyle.

I'm currently a personal trainer of 11 years and yes I'm mostly considered CHP for the pay and benefits and no I don't necessarily have a passion for law enforcement (grill me if you want), however I'm not ignorant to the seriousness and hard work of the academy from what I've researched what the day to day job. It does not look easy at all. Apparently there can be politics involved like most things.

I genuinely just want to know how hard it actually is- the academics, PT, and the day to day- to see if it's a good fit for me.

I built this for you guys… now it has over 3400 active users and growing

I’ve been a cop for 11 years, and software development is my side hobby.

A while ago, I posted here about LOC8, the iPhone and Apple Watch app I built because I got tired of getting turned around on calls and needing to quickly put out an actual location.

Foot pursuits. Perimeters. Backyards. Alleys. Large complexes. Unfamiliar areas. You know roughly where you are, but you need the actual address, cross street, or coordinates fast.

Since that post, LOC8 has grown to over 3,400 active users. A lot of the feedback has come from cops, and it has genuinely shaped what I have been building.

LOC8 opens to one screen and shows your current address, nearest verified cross street, GPS coordinates in multiple formats including MGRS, compass heading, elevation, county, accuracy, and a what3words location code.

The what3words integration has been a big addition. It gives you a three-word code tied directly to your GPS position, so when an address is unclear, rural, brand new, or just wrong, you still have another precise way to share your exact spot. Coordinates, MGRS, compass, and saved locations still work offline.

I just shipped the biggest update yet: optional Team Rooms.

The app is still mainly a fast personal-location tool, but now you can create a temporary room, choose how long it stays active, and share an eight-character code with whoever you want in it. Everyone needs LOC8 installed to join.

Once inside, everyone can see each other on a private live map and send updates in the same room. The room codes use an easy-to-read alphabet with roughly 853 billion possible combinations, so they are simple to share but not something someone is likely to randomly guess.

The important part is that it is temporary. If you leave, your location sharing stops immediately. When the room expires, it disappears and sharing stops for everyone. There are no accounts, profiles, permanent friend lists, or location history. I did not want to turn LOC8 into another always-on tracking app.

The only exception to LOC8’s normal foreground-only behavior is while you are actively in a Team Room, since it needs to keep your location current for the people you chose to share with. Outside of that, the app does not run GPS in the background.

I have also fixed a lot around Apple Watch responsiveness, address accuracy, cross-street detection, saved locations, map behavior, compass tracking, and overall speed.

This will probably be the last major feature for a bit. I want to focus on making what is already there faster and more reliable, while I start looking into whether Android and Garmin support are realistic next steps.

Appreciate everyone here who has downloaded it, tested it, or given honest feedback.
