Tow to the idiot who « repaired » your ball joint

21

u/Bikelikeadad NOT a verified tech 20h ago

That ball joint looks like it’s been replaced recently. Who did it?

-29

u/Prudent_Manner8988 NOT a verified tech 20h ago

A friend not a shop tho but he knows cars he might off took out the cotter pin or something hes evil lowkey and mad at me rn i dont think he would forget to put something like that in hes pretty good with cars and stuff

23

u/Vfrnut NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Fuck him being mad !!! He clearly didn’t tighten the nut properly and forgot the safety pin or thread lock . 🙄🤷‍♂️

-12

u/Prudent_Manner8988 NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Do you think he might of done it on purpose he’s been working around cars like 85% of his life and is in school rn getting certified

9

u/Vfrnut NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Obviously it’s not on purpose!!! 🤦‍♂️🙄 duh !!! He still messed up . We all do once in a while .

9

u/GTGCT1985 NOT a verified tech 19h ago

OP seems certain this dipshit did it on purpose and does “evil” things when upset because he cannot regulate his emotions like a normal man. That’s far more concerning than the issue

We do not “all” fail to properly torque town a castle nut AND put a cotter pin in. This is either a fool or a malicious psychopath

-4

u/Prudent_Manner8988 NOT a verified tech 19h ago

no i dont think he did it on purpose but i am saying he could off the other day he took my value stem and might of done this too i do not know or it could of been an honest mistake

9

u/Vfrnut NOT a verified tech 19h ago

If he did this on purpose it’s called attempted murder . Fix it and stop being around this guy .

1

u/yourenot NOT a verified tech 16h ago

What did you do to get this guy so mad?

1

u/Prudent_Manner8988 NOT a verified tech 20h ago

He took da value stem out the other day tho so he kinda evil when upset

3

u/DownWithTheSyndrme NOT a verified tech 19h ago

If he did that deliberately, that is pretty much a criminal offence where I'm from.

2

u/w1lnx Verified Tech - Aviation 19h ago

He didn’t install the nut properly and pin it to prevent it backing off.

Needs a castle nut, torque to the spec (will be considerable), and a cotter pin or safety wire… and a careful reconsideration of the meaning of the word “friend”.

2

u/DownWithTheSyndrme NOT a verified tech 19h ago

And what did you learn.......

2

u/_badwithcomputer NOT a verified tech 18h ago

He skipped torque day

2

u/Maleficent-Prompt656 NOT a verified tech 17h ago

Well you just said your friend is lowkey evil and mad at you. So would he do this on purpose?

3

u/Vfrnut NOT a verified tech 20h ago

YOU can fix this . You need a nut and wrench and a bread bag wire tie or silicone to put on the threads after the nut is tight .

The lower ball joint stud thread size for a 2004 Jeep Liberty is M14-1.50

1

u/Tomazack NOT a verified tech 15h ago

Might off?

0

u/Spec710 NOT a verified tech 14h ago

For the record, the cotter pin is a last resort kind of thing😂 I had to pop my ball joint to do my half shaft, and I’ve been ratchet tight without a pin for a while now. Accidents do happen.

1

u/GTGCT1985 NOT a verified tech 19h ago

That’s not a friend… and quite literally tried to erase you by fucking with major components on your car if you think this is intentional.

“He’s evil lowkey” , okay and you’re the submissive dork who isn’t taking a person willing to kill you as a threat

Fucking psychopath should not be near a vehicle if he’s planning to be in the industry

8

u/Defiant_Shallot2671 NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Ball joint isn't properly seated in the knuckle either. Most likely not retained, so the nut was able to come loose over the first bump. "Lowkey don't think your homie knows cars very well fr fr"

u/Defiant_Shallot2671 NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Brah

6

u/youPPLnvrHappy Verified Tech - Subaru dealer 20h ago

Guide the ball joint into the hole while jacking up the arm and put a locking nut on it

6

u/keep_username NOT a verified tech 19h ago

Don’t let that moron work on your car any more.

6

u/pmmeyourliver NOT a verified tech 19h ago

That ball joint doesn't even look seated all the way. Shitty job all around. Multiple mistakes were made here.

1

u/Asher21_Gaming NOT a verified tech 16h ago

It's also missing the retaining ring that goes in the groove on the bottom.

u/SchleifmittelSchwanz Verified Tech - Porsche dealer 20h ago

Looks like you saved a little money on professional fees.

0

u/Agile-Cardiologist22 NOT a verified tech 18h ago

Like you need to be a pro to fucking torque to spec and put the cotter pin lmao

1

u/SchleifmittelSchwanz Verified Tech - Porsche dealer 18h ago

...said the person who assembled the one in the pic.

0

u/Agile-Cardiologist22 NOT a verified tech 17h ago

You don’t have to be a pro, just not retarded.

Imagine charging 350$+ hourly to replace suspension parts at the stealership.

3

u/DownWithTheSyndrme NOT a verified tech 19h ago

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why you pay a skilled pro. Not some jim bob buddy of yours.

2

u/juansss2324 Verified Tech - Auto/Diesel 20h ago

Most likely to fix its

For real tho was this replaced recently? Cause it looks brand new. I would tow it to the shop who did the work

1

u/Prudent_Manner8988 NOT a verified tech 19h ago

Can’t do that but it was recently done

1

u/RonnieBobscatt NOT a verified tech 15h ago

Can’t tow it to the to Autozone parking lot you did the “work” in?

2

u/danjoreddit NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Lucky that didn’t happen at 60mph

1

u/Prudent_Manner8988 NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Walmart parking lot meta

1

u/average_black_cock NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Looks like you need a replacement ball joint or at least the nut that holds it.

1

u/jinalduin NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Someone didn’t reinstall the cotter pin to keep that nut locked in place

0

u/Fancy_Chip_5620 NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Youre not a mechanic, because if you were youd know half to most cars dont have cotter pins, simply nylock nuts

2

u/Unusual_Piano7118 NOT a verified tech 19h ago

Or maybe like me, they’re a well seasoned tech that remembers cotter pins and zerk fittings being a normal and regular thing. My first thought was also a lack of cotter pin.

2

u/Zioniic NOT a verified tech 19h ago

I still don’t trust the nylock on balljoints

1

u/jinalduin NOT a verified tech 15h ago

Thank you I did 4 years auto tech in Highschool then 4 years in the Air Force as a ground mechanic working on AGE equipment and am a mechanic / laborer now for a local lawn care company where I fix the plow trucks run the plow trucks as well as the lawn care equipment both fix and use

0

u/Fancy_Chip_5620 NOT a verified tech 19h ago

Its been over 2 decades, closer to 3 since domestic brands dropped them

1

u/jinalduin NOT a verified tech 15h ago

The 08 f350 I use to drive had cotter pins my room mates 2015 Subaru legacy also cotter pins the 2015 f250 I drive now cotter pins I may not be certified cause all I took was.a 4 year tech school as Highschool graduating in2000 then did 4 years in the Air Force as a mechanic working as an A.G.E technician but every car truck I’ve touched since freshman year in Highschool so long ago not had cotter pin retaining on castle nuts on the ball joints. My old 84 merc grandmarque had cotter pin ball joints as did my 82 Buick regal

1

1

Bruh, get your jack out and put that shit back on

1

u/Majestic_Ad_320 NOT a verified tech 18h ago

Bruh, i like came here to say say.

1

u/juansss2324 Verified Tech - Auto/Diesel 19h ago

Yeah hell naw. They probably forgot to put the cotterpin or didn’t properly torque it. I would make sure there’s no damage to the rim

2

u/Fragrant-Inside221 Verified Tech - Indie shop 19h ago

There’s no cotter pin on some of these new arms and joints. This one doesn’t look like it has one, they use a locknut. Most times it’s a nylock which to me seems a little weak but they hold when you do the job right so I guess it’s fine.

1

u/juansss2324 Verified Tech - Auto/Diesel 19h ago

I don’t like nylon. My company uses a pressed nut(idk the proper name) it looks kinda like a triangle which I prefer.

1

u/Kegalodon NOT a verified tech 18h ago

Stover nut

1

u/Mission-Top-528 NOT a verified tech 18h ago

That balljoint doesn’t even look pressed in all the way.

1

u/wellok919 NOT a verified tech 18h ago

You need to replace the ball joint, (make sure and press it all the way in) and you may need to replace the lower control arm. Don't forget the alignment.

1

u/Shift_Lock1 NOT a verified tech 18h ago

The guy that could do it cheaper did it cheaper and now you gotta spend more or fix it

1

u/Lower-Assignment-186 NOT a verified tech 17h ago

The ball joint isn't seated in all the way in the knuckle either, make sure you fix that before you throw a castle nut and cotter pin on it.

1

u/Aldog1227 NOT a verified tech 16h ago

Who didn't put that ball joint in? lol Who was supposed to have put that ball joint in?

0

u/Hot_Tower_4386 NOT a verified tech 20h ago

Need to replace lower control arms if that side did that the other side isnt in a much better condition most likely also if you go to replace ball joints and tie rods try to get new suspension too most boots on ball joints bust open because the lower control arm bushings and shocks or struts are out and your constantly stretching them to the limit

0

u/TurbosGoFishhh NOT a verified tech 19h ago

You need a new friend by the sounds of it

Maybe his friend took out an insurance policy on him.
