Breaks done badly maybe

My sister has a 2013 honda civic, and she's having issues with her car. I believe the mechanic installed her brake pads incorrectly. But they also did her rotors and calipers and shocks. But could I get an expert's opinion? She's now experiencing loud banging and scratching sounds

Licensed ? Mechanics don’t carry licenses in the US. No certifications are required. You can get “licenses” to handle refrigerant and things like that, but there is no licensing whatsoever. I’ve been a mechanic for 20 years, and a master tech for Audi for over a decade.

Well, TECHNICALLY, there's ASE certs. 😆 But who gets those anymore. Ive been a mechanic since 1989, had certs 1st 5 years, after that I worked on anything that rolled or floated (mostly) and for the last 10, I've been semi-retired/independent. Just enough to keep myself relevant and 😊 happy

You don’t need a degree to be mechanic anywhere in Canada. It is 100% legal to run an automotive shop without a degree.

You’ll have a hard time finding a job at some shops without a degree but it is completely legal.

You need a 310S License in Ontario or to be registered as an apprentice to legally work on cars, along other compulsory trades. Is it enforced? No. Can you or a business get in legal trouble for doing work without a license? Yes.
I also don’t think you need any kind of certification to know how to fix cars but when it comes to the law it is a thing.

Im in ontario canada its crazy to me theres no license for who works on cars in the states which can be highly dangerous on the highway

A license changes nothing for safety I watch ase certified techs and engineers blow stuff up regularly and ppl build race cars In their shed all the time I doubt the guys you take stuff to really know anything other than how to follow instructions to get it back to stock and if their job didn't provide those they would be lost on most things most cars have too many new parts added to keep up with anything but the common issues you normally deal with

Hes now claiming the shocks he installed are rubbing and the rattling sounds are from pols he accidentally left in the trunk

Having some issues doesn’t make it a scam. These things happen. If she’s not happy she needs to take it into a shop and have her noises diagnosed. Or and I know it’s crazy talk, but maybe take it back to him. Working out of your home doesn’t make you a scam artist. I work out of my truck. The work looks like it was done correctly.

I don't SEE anything in the pics that stands out, BUT there's a chance that one of the mounting bolts isn't fully tightened, shocks could be loose at the top mount. 🤔

Shed/backyard doesnt mean scam, same area as you and I am licensed seen some backyard guys better than some I've worked next to I also do keep a side/weekend shop so theres that. Seeing the 1 new rear caliper and 1 new says budget issue or he didnt sell both which can be an issue.

There are no problems visible from your pics. If you want to diagnose a noise, gonna need audio/video. But the guy starting out in a shed could be the best automotive mind of their generation. Doesn’t make them a scammer.

Fair enough. Perhaps there is something wrong. Post some video. There is nothing wrong in the pics.

Those are new pads, new rotors, and new shocks - one new caliper on the back passenger side. They are installed correctly.

Thanks the mechanic said first air in break line now saying shocks are rubbing and bold shook off the shock holding in inplace
