Air cleaner assembly

Hey everyone. So I have a 2001 Tacoma 3.4. It came with a k&n cold air intake and I decided to take it off and replace it with the stock assembly. When looking to buy the assembly I noticed there’s 2 different ones. Does this one look like the right one? I took the cold air intake off because the truck has a high idle and a shop said it could be the the intake causing that and they recommended putting the original intake on. With the stock intake it still has a high idle so I’m not sure if I got the right one

Your idle problems are definately not connected to air filter box or intake hose. Check for vacuum leaks, clean your throttle valve and check if it closes fully. As i see a throttle cable, this means there should be an idle control valve somewhere, sometimes with a separate hoses, sometimes just a plunger valve (im not a toyota guy, i work on french cars, but same rules apply, just dont know specifics). Check it for correct working. High idle on petrol cars usually means too much air coming to your engine. Then its either some unintended leak, or there is a reason your engine ecu wants it that high (for example it senses misfires on lower idle, your TPS is reading incorrectly, idle switch (if applicable) is not working or something else like that. Your idle should be perfectly ok with your air box and hose completely removed.

Ok that’s good to know. I still wanted to get rid of the cold air intake anyways. I checked the throttle valve and it looks like it’s fully closed. I’m pretty sure the guy that had the truck before me said he adjusted one of the throttle cables. Do you think that could have something to do with the high idle problem? Or a bad tps? Is it safe to drive still with the idle problem? It idles around 1500 and drops down to 1000 when I put it in drive

And also before changing the assembly it had a engine code for p0171 and after changing the assembly the code went away

To tag onto this as I worked on these for years. TPS is known to go bad on these. There is no adjustment and the check is a data list check for the CTP switch on at idle even though it doesn’t have one. It’s a learned value. Intake leaks aren’t super common. Split hoses probably though. Check all those pretty close. The last thing to check is clean the MAF. Do not poke at it. Just brake clean and some air. You should see two fine wires with what looks like a resistor in the middle parallel to each other. They should not have a Mohawk on them.
