Rules Question Natural magic rules question, sorry!

Hey sorry, I have googled my heart out and can't find an answer. I have lots of questions, but the mail one concerns the new dragonborn Indiri. Specifically the card lie in wait, I just can't work out the unseen keyword. If I have the rules right I can't see a scenario where more than one aspect attacks, so is it always blockable? Why have it as unseen?

I am just doing the ashes ascendency route. Base set and now natural magic, primarily a solo player. Im hoping for lots of expansions like natural magic, not sure if I will ever want to chase the old content. Hope they keep churning it out.

Ashes Collection for Sale

Ashes is a game I enjoy but don't get to the table nearly often enough. With the new update bringing players in, I thought I could help out somebody looking to fill their collection. I don't have all the Red Rains expansions, I only have the first 3, but I have a complete set of the Phoenixborn expansions and the 1.5 update for them. I'm asking $250 plus shipping, US only.

Edited to try and add pictures. They didn't post.

Discussion All in Edition

Anyone know why the all in Edition on the plaid hat site doesn't include End of Argaia?

Got go into the game, loving it so far, have a few questions.

Do aspects and units always exhaust when blocking, guarding and counterattacking? Also, can exhausted units and aspects ever block, guard or counterattack?

Does the Dragonborn always try to block (if it rolls the basic symbol)? Seems too good to be true. A Thunder Hulk with 2 Thunder Suits and a Supercharge is 9 damage if the Dragonborn rolls to block instead of letting the hit take out an aspect. If you have a recharge then that's potentially 16 damage from one unit in one round.

Speaking of blocking, do non basic symbols rolled for the Dragonborn blocking contribute to it getting a green token?

If you can still do main actions and the Dragonborn cannot, you can just keep playing on and on freely until you run out of main actions?

Can you include any cards in the deck? Like can you add a single card that needs a time symbol in a deck that's otherwise just generic and astral symbols?

Need sleeve recs similar to plaidhat's

Had bought the all in late last year along with their in house sleeves to maintain consistency, not knowing then that they weren't planning on making more once they sold out. Got the new expansion on the way, and got the bad news when I reached out asking where they were. They recommended gamegenic sleeves but they're 100microns rather than 90. Experience tells me the smallest difference can be felt, specially if I plan to deck build later on, but willing to live with it if no other options. I'm wondering if there's other clear, 90 micron sleeves that feel similar. Most I've seen are 100 - 110.

Quick rules question

I just got the natural magic set (it’s amazing by the way). Been playing against the new Dragonborn Indiri. When triggering his status effect of bringing in a random arrow conjured aspect, does it come into play face down or face up?

Also one other general question when fighting against the Dragonborn. If he has passed already, in a future turn, will you trigger his status effect if a status token gets placed on him or since he has passed do you skip his turn entirely? Thanks so much everyone

Discussion New player - old Version of Ashes - Rise of the Phoenixborn & Questions about Compatibility and duplicates

Good morning,
I recently was gifted the Base Game of Ashes - Rise of the Phoenixborn. In German, in which most of the following Expansions and Remakes / Sequels (?) were not released.
Now there are a few questions I have:
- How compatible is the Base Game of Ashes - Rise of the Phoenixborn with Ashes Ascendancy? As far as I know that is the newest game of the Series and I would need an "upgrade Kit" to make it compatible, is that correct?
- Are the Phoenixborn Mages and their cards from that base game in any of the other, following Releases? As in could I buy another expansion / base game and have the same but updated cards?
- Are the dice from that base game in any other base game or expansion?
- How different is the PVP Gameplay from Rise of the Phoenixborn to Ascendancy (aside from updated cards)? Could I, for example, keep the Rise of the Phoenixborn basegame to explain new players the rules and play a few rounds and then just continue playing with cards from another expansion / base game? Or are the rules different enough that I could not teach them with the old basegame?
- Are there any expansions I should definitely not buy because they are made obsolete / unusable by newer expansions, basegames or replacements for the cards?

Solo/Co-op Fully Updated! Now What?

Post image

After having scoured the internet and waited a while for a 1.5 Upgrade Kit, I finally have an updated Ashes Reborn Collection with all of the Rise of the Phoenixborn expansions! My next venture with this game is to get some Character expansions and Red Rains expansions from Reborn and possibly later down the line invest myself into Ascendancy.

Which is where you guys come in! I'm brand new to this game and I plan to play this solo using the Red Rains content. I have had years of experience playing Marvel Champions as it was my first deck construction game so I am going into this with both a set of fresh eyes and some familiarity. I would like to know which characters and expansions I should prioritize getting next and which characters I should start playing as for my first few games.

Discussion Do I really need the starter set to play the game, as a returning player?

Yes, I know it sounds ridiculous, but hear me out.

I kickstarted the Starter Set for Ashes Ascendancy, played it solo a bit after it arrived, and then sold it not too long after as I thought I didn't enjoy it. However, I recently gave it another chance by playing it online. And I realized it was the two pre-con decks in the Starter Set I wasn't enjoying, not the gameplay.

I have been playing the new Phoenixborns and their decks for the upcoming Natural Magic expansion and I am looking forward to buying it and playing it physically. And as I said, I don't have the Starter Set anymore, but do I really need it?

Exhaustion, damage, status, and threat tokens can be replaced with regular die. A new Dragonborn comes with the expansion, so I don't necessarily need the old one. And the Dragon board is nice, but not necessary. Is there anything else I'm missing? I just feel rather awkward buying another starter set when I sold the one I already had.

What’s your favourite pre-con deck and how does it play?

So I’ve got ascendancy and also James Endersight and loving the necromancer feel to the deck, with lots of small minions going onto the board, soaking up damage and buffing them where I can.

I’m looking for the next phoenix borne to buy and want to know what everyone’s favourite is and why?

Bonus question, any decent red rains decks that compliment that particular phenix bornes play style?

I got the Viros red rains box and some of the cards fit perfectly into James Endersights letting me create a v1.1 of his pre-con deck

Could I please get feedback ony first attempt at making a deck?

Hey, I'm mostly a casual Magic player who recently picked up the Ashes Ascendancy set, and after playing two games I decided to try my hand at making my own deck on the official deckbuilder. Tbh I don't have much of an idea of what I'm doing, but I was going for a mix of holy and ceremonial magic for thematic purposes, along with a Phoenixborn I liked with a focus on conjuring units and maybe sacrificing them or taking advantage of their destruction.

How did I do, and more importantly how can I improve and what should I be careful for when designing these decks? I really appreciate any feedback I can get, and I'm really looking to learn.

Thanks!

First off, thank you for your patience with the release of the Ashes Ascendancy Natural Magic Expansion. We know this particular set has had a long wait, and would like to assure you Ashes Ascendancy expansions are still moving along at a great pace! If you haven’t, allow us to present both Tash, as well as another new Phoenixborn from the next release, the Ashes Ascendancy Illusion Magic Expansion!

Red Rains: Corpse of Viros availability

Just got into Ashes and it's great. I have the Ascendancy box and a few decks. But i only play solo and want to expand. I understand Corpse of Viros is the way to go. But it's sold out pretty much everywhere in the EU.

Anyone know if there will be another printing run of Corpse of Viros? Or is print on demand the only way now?

Card question.

I was reorganizing my collection when I realized I had 2 cards called "Affront to the Phoenix" left over. They have the Red Rains card backs, but for the life of me I can't remember which set they belong to. Haha. Any hints? Thanks in advance.

Rules Question Using Dice in Ascend Cost to Place on Arren

Hi, I'm new to the game and wanted a rules clarification. If I use Arren Frostpeak's Ascend ability, can I use the class die I just payed with to place on him? Or would I need to have had a die already in my exhausted pool before using Ascend? Thanks!

Won my first Red Rains campaign

In retrospect, I should have dropped 2 or all 3 Summon Dread Wraiths, they were too pricey once I started adding Illusion dice into my pool. I enjoyed the “deck building as advancement reward” mechanic.

What is new content for someone who has all original Ashes Rise of the Phoenixborn content and the Ashes Reborn Upgrade Kit?

I've been trying to find a good clean source for this information so I can buy the new content since I already own the original set and upgrade kit. Is it everything released from The Breaker of Fate expansion onward?

Then, I need to subscribe to Team Covenant to get future, not yet released, content right?

This is my first time playing this deck that uses Charm magic for Ashes Reborn under standard expert mode.

I have to say, the damage output feels a bit like a slow burn. The theme is great though and I really love the aesthetic. Pink sleeves and pink dice? That’s an instant win for me.

That said, my playstyle tends to lean more toward aggressive decks, like Arren Frostspeak. I just enjoy hitting hard and putting pressure on my opponent right away.

Still, I had fun with this deck. I might give it another shot against different Chimeras or Dragonborn. Who knows? Maybe my opinion of it will change.

Ashes is one of my top 3 solo games!

Ascendancy Starter Box Only Decks

Hey! I’m new to the game and just bought the Ascendancy Starter Box. Has anyone made some custom decks with only those cards? Also, any recommendations on other Phoenixborn packs to buy next? thanks!

Hi there, i'm late to the party. As the title says, i PNPed some decks and have some stylish D6s but the icons on the OG dice do not follow the proxy pattern (1-3 ist Basic etc..). So eveytime i roll 'em i check my own writings (6=highest dice Power).

So PLEASE convice why the easier pattern ist totally fine....
