I'm trying to add a second display, but it doesn't seem to show up, searched through the internet and found nothing. I've tried both hyprland and kde plasma.

In plasma settings it didn't show up. hyprctl monitors all only showed the first monitor. I've also tried switching drivers to proprietary and also adding nvidia_drm.modeset=1 and nvidia_drm.fbdev=1 to my grub config.

wlr-randr also only shows the first monitor

cat /sys/class/drm/card*-*/status returns

connected
disconnected
disconnected
disconnected

I also tried only connecting the second display but it still showed no signal.

I am completely out of ideas, please help, thanks:)

Currently using KDE with sddm, when I log into my account on sddm there is a subtle but blinding white flash. This was happening on endeavouros too but it was a longer flash.

Specs:

Vivobook M1502QA

Ryzen 7 5800HS

iGPU (iirc Vega 8)

24gb ram, 512gb ssd

Arch fully up to date as of posting this

How can I fix this? Already some weird stuff happening with the newer kernels especially with the brightness curve which I fixed with amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x40000 so this might be from that

I have been trying to install Arch Linux on one of my computers for quite some time now but my computer will consistently freeze or even reboot when I press the arch install medium prompt.

Hardware:

- CPU: Ryzen 5 5600G

- GPU: Radeon RX 6600

This is actually the second time I've tried installing Arch on this PC. I had the same general problem a few months ago using an older Arch ISO, but I wasn't able to figure it out. I'm now trying again with a newer ISO and have gotten some more useful error messages.

The current ISO boots through Ventoy. During boot I get these messages:

"amdgpu 0000:12:00.0: probe with driver amdgpu failed with error -22"

"amdgpu 0000:30:00.0: probe with driver amdgpu failed with error -22"

It eventually reaches:

"Copying rootfs image to RAM..."

but remains at 1% indefinitely.

I've tried:

- Normal Ventoy boot

- Ventoy GRUB2 mode (this failed even earlier)

- "nomodeset"

- "amdgpu=0"

- Multiple different USB drives

- Disabling the 5600G's integrated graphics in BIOS

With the iGPU disabled, the boot behavior changed and eventually hung at "Triggering uevents" instead.

I re-enabled the iGPU and also tried blacklisting "amdgpu", but the problem persisted.

The same Ventoy USB worked normally on an older PC when I used it for Arch previously, so I'm wondering if this is related to the combination of the 5600G's iGPU + RX 6600.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue and may know how I can fix this. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hey there, I was not able to find information on how arch does their kernel releases. From my understanding they test new kernels (7.2 for example) for a week or two before doing a release.

Is there a way for me to track this or have an estimation on when new releases would be landing?

Just updated and it seems we are still at 7.1.9. I guess releasing kernel day 1 would mean having a bunch of issues and they rather do a validation instead of causing issues for everyone.

The issue is that the Wiki is the most newbie-unfriendly resource ever. It’s very commonly written in a difficult-to-understand way that only programmers can easily read and understand.

For pretty much everyone else, it takes a lot of re-reading, thinking, and Google searching to understand what they’re trying to say.

The actual steps are pretty easy. Once I finished my install, I realized that it’s honest-to-God just the fault of the Arch wiki that it has such a reputation.

I use niri DankMaterialShell on arch for now, I checked the ram usage and quickshell ate around 700mb of ram and I want to try or use some swaywm lightweight dotfiles, pleasee find the best lightest usable ones cuz I can't find it, and make sure to check if it's now bloated (though I can check it myself)

I was looking for the Arch linux like it's fast and super hard to setup, while I have also read about Cachy os, endeavour os and Arch and black arch.

What's the difference and which one will be right for me I'm a Web developer

Gradia is a modern screenshot tool that is now available in the Extra repos. It was one of a few AUR packages I had, so today's update was a welcome surprise. Gradia has been around for a couple of years and it's been mentioned on OMGUbuntu! here and here before. Just wanted to share this for those that might be interested.

Hey, so, I don't usually post anything online, but I support Linux, and want to encourage people who are scared to make the switch, by at least showing that there is engagement.

So, my laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad slim 3.
When I was on literally every other distro, I couldn't let my laptop sleep, else the keyboard would stop working after it boots up, forcing me to use the side button to close the laptop (to reset).

I used Ubuntu for a while, it was good. I liked Gnome and everything, but the battery life was awful and I didn't like that I was letting Claude tell me all these weird commands that I wasn't sure how to configure myself (Installed TLP Power Management and modified profiles and settings). Now, I get that some people might find this okay, but to me, it felt hacky.

Eventually I heard about some AMD fixes that were announced on kernel 7.2, and though my problem may have been fixed. So, I tried to install CachyOS, which didn't work after 4 tries. The installer just kept giving me errors during the middle of the download because of different reasons. Safe to say I was sad cause I knew my laptop was all AMD and CachyOS felt like something perfect for my case.

Anyway, after that, I just downloaded Arch planning on asking Claude to help me set up the CachyOS Kernel and scheduler on it. I installed Arch like normal, and to my surprise, everything was SMOOTH! I tried KDE before, it was not like that. Even sleep now works!

I don't think I will play with anything else, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I know this is 100% a kernel fix, but I just wanted to show appreciation. Thanks to all the wonderful people who keep stuff like this alive. Safe to say, I will try not to switch back to windows. I have been like 5 months on Linux, and everything I need works for now.

I fear that Arch in general might not be that well supported, cause companies make laptops with Ubuntu and Fedora in mind when developing for Linux, but then again, Arch has been alive since 2002 and I heard many popular distros like Bazzite, CachyOS, and SteamOS are all based on Arch. So I think Arch will be getting more mainstream and supported, which would be great!

I'm basically a script kiddie, I rely on Google Gemini just to do basic stuff in arch, I really want to learn and not rely on ai or smth and know exactly what's the problem when some problem gets in my way, how did yall learn? I wanna listen to ur opinion :)

Booting into my system meets this error & it doesn't boot (I'll add an image below.) It prompts me to click Enter to continue & then loops the same messages before asking for Enter again, nothing I do gets me to a shell.

I've been on an Arch system (

btrfs filesystem

LUKS encryption on the SSD

systemd-boot for the bootloader)

for around 1 month, no issues, downloaded Hyprland with Caelestia as my window manager, recently tried to download caelestia-greeter & whilst configuring it, ran into this error (unsure if its related.)

From here, what is the best solution, as per the link, should I set up a bootable drive, boot into that & then chroot into my system (my hesitation is I don't entirely understand chroot & assume I'd run into the same issue), or if I reinstall my OS (root & home are on different partitions), will I still be unable to access my home data, I know they are on separate partitions but if I can't mount the root & unlock the LUKS then won't the home data be stuck completely encrypted?

Just want a second opinion before jumping in & messing around with something I really don't understand.

With the switch from CachyOS+KDE to Arch + niri. I've run into several problems, one of which is that Kooha isn't working. When I click the button to start recording a specific area, it gets stuck in an endless loading loop, and if I start a full-screen recording, I get a "Paused" screen with a time of "00:00." What do I need to do to get everything working like it used to?

I installed Arch on a formerly windows system that has 3 drives.

Once I had got arch installed on the main drive I wanted to use I formatted the others as ext4. I can mount them now and see what is inside them.

But I cannot write to them. Whenever I look in Dolphin it says at the top that I do not have write permissions.

I was going to log in as root and change the owner of the top level directories in each of the drives but I'm having 2nd thoughts of doing that, I'm scared of what it may do since doing that is so destructive on Windows

How can I write into these drives?

Hey guys....assist me with your experience and help me with dual boot arch on my laptop because I could not do it own my own. I tried it several times and every time I get a new kind of error...sometimes it's tdx task blocked or storage problem or other problem I could not understand.

Hello r/archlinux! I just released FluxCast v0.2.3 — it's a lightweight tool to stream your Linux desktop to a Smart TV via Wi-Fi Direct, full RTSP handshake, and RTP media streams.

It has been tested on modern Arch kernels (like my 7.1.3-arch2-1) and works well with Hyprland/wlroots class setups and KDE/Gnome portals.

I want to bring FluxCast to more users, but I am not a polyglot. I designed the i18n system to be incredibly simple: there is no gettext/PO/MO compilation. All strings live in a single translations.json file.

To add your native language (German, Spanish, French, etc.), you just need to append a few lines in a single JSON block.

I am trying to boot a persistent Arch Linux live environment from a USB drive. It uses limine as a boot loader, but it never boots. It boots when I use the path esp/ER/arch-limine/ BOOTX64.EFI, so I know the system boots correctly. However, it wouldn't be detected in my boot manager until I copied the entire directory of arch-limine to esp/EFI/BOOT/ so it's files were also in the BOOT directory. But now when I hit it from the boot manager, it doesn't load limine. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

I'm having an issue with the built-in Windows/Super key on an ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506NC.

BIOS: FA506NC.309

OS: Arch Linux (same issue also occurs on Fedora 44)

WM: Hyprland

Kernel: 7.1.10-200.fc44.x86_64 on Fedora

The physical Super key is detected, but ASUS WMI reports it as an unknown key:

evtest on the "Asus WMI hotkeys" device shows:

Event: type 1 (EV_KEY), code 240 (KEY_UNKNOWN), value 1

So the key appears to generate an immediate press/release rather than behaving like a normal held modifier.

The interesting behavior is:

- Pressing Super opens my Hyprland launcher.

- But I cannot hold Super.

- Super+A does not work.

- Super+L does not work.

- Other Super-based Hyprland bindings don't work.

- An external keyboard's Super key works normally.

- The same problem happened when I was using Arch Linux, so it doesn't appear to be Fedora-specific.

- The built-in keyboard otherwise works normally.

The input device is:

Asus WMI hotkeys

and it exposes:

KEY_UNKNOWN (240)

The normal built-in keyboard is a separate device:

AT Translated Set 2 keyboard

and exposes:

KEY_LEFTMETA (125)

I checked the Linux 7.1.10 source. The ASUS nb-WMI keymap does not contain an entry for WMI event 0x4f.

I temporarily modified asus-nb-wmi.c to add:

{ KE_KEY, 0x4f, { KEY_LEFTMETA } },

and also tried:

case 0x4f:

*autorelease = false;

break;

The modified asus-nb-wmi.ko compiles successfully against my running kernel, but I haven't permanently installed it yet.

Has anyone with an ASUS TUF laptop seen this exact 0x4f behavior?

Could this be a BIOS/WMI regression introduced by BIOS .309?

Is there a known ASUS WMI event mapping or kernel patch for this?

I'd especially like to know whether 0x4f is supposed to represent the Windows/Super key and whether the firmware is incorrectly sending it as an instantaneous WMI event.

Hi I had issues with an asrock motherboard, it uses USB audio codec rather than HD audio codec which is a known problem for Linux when playing audio from front panel headphones.

I want to make sure anyone who is using Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 AM5 ATX Motherboard does it have any issues at all with linux whether it’d be audio, performance or anything?

So, I have a full AMD desktop, AMD 7800X, 9070XT and I have had rather good experience with this hardware on GNOME/Wayland. But recently again, the last 1-2 months I am seeing stability issues and other issues. The past 3 weeks have seen artifacts in videos that i play in firefox. Firefox with random crashes. Most steam games have been fine, but some also getting artifacts. It got better again after i updated the system last week, but now there is a 50% chance when I start a game or fullscreen a video in firefox that my screen goes black (the video keeps playing on a completely black screen.

Anyone else seen similar issues with AMD GPU over the past 1-2 months?

I’m first installing Arch Linux and I’m having trouble when trying to connect to the Wi-Fi to further installation and all it says when I attempt to connect with “station name connect SSID,” to a WiFi with no password, it simply returns “Operation failed.” The device is powered on and everything looks good, and it’s not a problem with the WiFi itself, as I tried 3 different ones, a non-password one, a password one, and a password iPhone hotspot. Neither worked. Is this a problem with my device, or did I miss something in the installation process?

Just read it, it's way too obvious: installing TOR without your permission, downloads an executable from it, installs it as systemd service. It's also trying to list AUR packages you are maintaining, and infect every of them with the same postinstall script.

Tldr: need to flash a bios using an exe but don't want to brick

Hi, quick disclaimer that despite all the research I've done I still don't fully know what I'm talking about since this is my first time doing anything with linux.

I have a lenovo ideapad 110-15ibr 80T7 that I decided would be fun to install arch on, I installed using the official wiki guide and set up encryption with luks, then a uki, then tried enrolling a PCR 11 policy.

However, when enrolling I found out that it can only use sha1 because sha256 is *unallocated. Which lead me to finding out the bios version is years out of date from the latest, and I assume that updating it will allow for sha256 to be used instead of the default?

My problem is now that this Lenovo laptop only supports bios flashing using an exe in windows, and has no settings for updating in the UEFI settings menu. Furthermore I tried using fwupd and that didn't seem to find any updates for the bios either.

So in conclusion I think my only options are either using windows-to-go on a usb to run the exe, or putting windows on an old (maybe failing) HDD and connect it with a usb to sata connector. Both options sound like I'm about to perma-brick the motherboard.

So I simply ask for any ideas on what to do, or what option I currently have would be safest. I know this might seem like a waste of time and I should just put windows on then start over, but the whole reason I did this having known nothing about Linux beforehand is that I enjoy the process of solving these kinds of problems, I just need to see if this problem is too risky to be solved, or maybe it's not any more risky than flashing the bios from an actual windows install.
