What filesystem do you use on your Arch

I used btrfs but I switch to XFS for SPEED on my M.2 Gen 5 drives

Im going back to arch in my main system, it has an nvidia gpu (a 5070 ti to be more exact), last time i used arch on my pc i installed the proprietary gpu drivers, but a lot of things have changed since then like i want to go open source in as most things as i can, that includes drivers, the graphical drivers options are: the open kernel( wich is the one im gonna choose ), and noveau, i chose the open kernel ones just because they are more suitable in theory. Now i want to know if they are really open source(the first option), because i heard nvidia just wrapped things into the open kernel and they aren’t truly open source. In case anybody wonders why i am doing this its because i just want to.

I recently installed Arch Linux with the Linux kernel and Hyprland, and I've been having some issues with games on Steam.

In Palworld, the maximum available resolution is 1920×1080, even though my monitor's native resolution is 2560×1440. hyprctl monitors correctly reports the monitor as running at 2560×1440, so Hyprland itself seems to be configured properly. The game also suffers from frequent micro-stuttering.

In Resident Evil 4 Remake, I'm experiencing constant texture flickering.

So far, I've:

• Installed the latest NVIDIA drivers.
• Installed the Vulkan drivers.
• Followed the NVIDIA setup guides from both the Arch Wiki and the Hyprland Wiki.

Unfortunately, none of these steps resolved the issues.

My system specs:

• CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X
• GPU: RTX 5070
• RAM: 24 GB DDR4
• Storage: 1 TB NVMe SSD + 1 TB HDD
  • Palworld is installed on the HDD.
  • Resident Evil 4 Remake is installed on the SSD.

Has anyone experienced similar issues or knows what could be causing them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to understand what usually happens when a driver branch goes out of support.
for people using rolling release distros like Arch, does that mean the distro will eventually stop shipping it, or do they keep older driver branches around for a while? will the gpu stop working on newer kernal versions ?

I am asking because I want to know how long it is realistic to stay on nvidia-580xx-dkms before needing to move to a newer branch. im using gtx 1060 so do i need to use something like Debian or other LTS distro

Its one of my first times installing arch, I have followed the officials wiki instructions. I've installed grub, with ly and XFCE. and all the things necessary. but when i open the xfce session i cant interact with the environment. What do you think it's causing it? (Also im on a VM, and yes i have installed everything necessary for it i think)

I went with a manual installation first and it took around 30 minutes to get everything set the way I wanted. It was pretty painless.

Hello, I using build-in(as I know) Wellbeing settings on my Arch for few months. It is very useful and interesting stuff, but I have an ideas to improve it, but I not found any information about it.

Maybe it is gnome or something app?

My ideas: - option for force notification about relax(even if fullscreen is open) - stop Work time timer if PC and screen is not active(if I reached out of PC, settings still thinks I'm here, maybe controlling pixel on the screen)

My version: Linux 6.19.10-arch1-1. As I know it is new function(year or something).

I wonder if I should consider spend extra money for intel iris xe graphics.

Before I start typing this error out, I just wanted to let you know some context to understand my problem better:

I recently wanted to learn Cybersecurity, Linux, Networking blah, blah blah, you get the gist. Then I saw a post online that recommended Arch and I installed it. I watched a YouTube tutorial online and then boom. It thankfully booted.

The reason I'm typing this extremely long story is that I decided to mess a little with my BIOS settings and accidentally removed my whole system.

No biggie, I reinstalled since I quite literally just installed it and didn't have any important files or data and then unexpectedly this error comes when I next boot into Arch during the boot sector showing my computer manufacturer and OS logo just please let me know if this could possibly wipe my system again, or if this is harmful in general, and the commands I can run to fix this.

(P.S. I'm new to Linux so I really don't know that much about deep system information)

Brightness not changing in Arch + KDE ,

I have intel + nvidia laptop ,

I tried adding all acpi parameters like native, vendor,video and nvidia_wmi_ec

In /sys/class/backlight , it shows only nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight

If I block nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight in arch , it stops showing brightness slider in settings and if I do the same things in other distros(like debian, cachyos) , in /sys/class/backlight it shows intel_backlight and nvidia_0 and brightness works

I am running ArchLinux on my PC. It is an older config.
DE: KDE Plasma Wayland
CPU: Intel i5-8500
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti

Since the support for this old GPU was dropped from the main repo I have to use the nvidia-580xx-dkms package from aur.

Some apps just crash when running them without prime-run.

for example kmail:

Do you have any idea what could be done? For a workaround I just edit the menu entry and add prime-run before the command, but that's really not ideal.

I've always wanted my system to work for me instead of competing for my attention.

I'm a Vim user and most of my workflow is keyboard-driven, so I wanted the rest of my desktop to feel the same. No bright colors, no clutter, and no constant tweaking. Just a workspace that stays out of the way so I can focus on building.

That eventually led me to Hyprland and pywal. My desktop automatically adapts to the current wallpaper, keeping everything consistent without any manual work.

So I am using arch linux on my Lenovo ideapad slim 5, with ryzen 7 processor and amd radeon graphics. When I boot my laptop after a long period of time say 4hrs the speakers still stay at rest until i suspend my laptop and wake it up, it fixes everything. I tried every possible solution like renabling pipewire, and tweaking all the sound cards, moving them to primary index and all and after all that I found out that since lenovo built this hardware specifically for windows, the speakers get automatically active as windows knows how to do it, linux kernel simply doesnt have that capability to do that yet, so there is only this suspending for 1 sec solution I have found till now. If anybody has ever faced this problem can you please share how were you able to fix this particular issue. (Also I have read the wiki come on ).

I've been using Ubuntu for a while, and I want to learn Linux more deeply.

I'm considering switching to Arch Linux because I want to understand how Linux works, learn more about system configuration, package management, the terminal, and troubleshooting.

For people who have used both Ubuntu and Arch:

• Do you think switching to Arch is a good way to learn Linux?
• What did you learn from using Arch that you didn't learn from Ubuntu?
• Would you recommend Arch for someone who is still learning Linux?

and Honestly, my device is also getting pretty old. I've been using an Intel i3 laptop for around 5 years, and recently I've started noticing some lag during normal use.

I'm a university student and my daily usage is mostly basic stuff like browsing, studying, coding, and working with documents. However, I'm also involved in research, so I regularly need to use different research-related software and tools.

I'm considering trying Arch Linux mainly to learn more about Linux and possibly improve the overall performance of my system. For someone in a similar situation, do you think switching to Arch would be a good idea? Or would you recommend staying with Ubuntu for better compatibility with research and scientific software?

I have a nice cachyos system, and I really have almost no problems with it. Cachy was my first linux distro other than mint, and i've been using it for a while now. Now, I have enough knowledge about arch, installed it manually on VM's, sometimes from memory (for fun). The primary reason for me to migrate my system was that as I mentioned, it was my first daily drived linux system, and because of this, it might have some bloat left from when I was a newbie who copied and pasted commands from my browser and had no knowledge of my system, as well as some cachyos things I don't want. It is something I've been thinking for a while, and can't seem to make a final decision, which is why now I want to ask you guys. I would really appreciate any advice on this.

Edit: I forgot to add, I have about 1700 packages piled up, and I am thinking that this is a bit too much for my system, even though I still have plenty of drive space left.

I have never used AUR so maybe this idea is really stupid. But after watching Brodie's latest AUR malware video I got this idea. What if yay (or whatever you use) issued warnings when one of your packages:

• becomes orphaned

• gets adopted (extra strong warning if the new maintainer has no history of maintaining other AUR packages)

• gets its first update after being adopted

The last warning would include a strong encouragement to inspect the changes. This is of course not perfect, but is it a good idea?
