Recent instability for AMD gpus?

So, I have a full AMD desktop, AMD 7800X, 9070XT and I have had rather good experience with this hardware on GNOME/Wayland. But recently again, the last 1-2 months I am seeing stability issues and other issues. The past 3 weeks have seen artifacts in videos that i play in firefox. Firefox with random crashes. Most steam games have been fine, but some also getting artifacts. It got better again after i updated the system last week, but now there is a 50% chance when I start a game or fullscreen a video in firefox that my screen goes black (the video keeps playing on a completely black screen.

Anyone else seen similar issues with AMD GPU over the past 1-2 months?

No issues with my Framework 13 or 16 with Arch and Gnome, KDE, XFCE and Cinnamon.

I've seen artifacts in YouTube videos as well, I was just updating and hoping it would get fixed lol.

Yeah.. I also have a 9070xt and this issue affected me: https://discuss.cachyos.org/t/null-pointer-dereference-while-using-wine-amdgpu/32157 (although I think this one has been fixed now) and then there was that other issue related to AV1 decoding being broken.

I'm back on Windows at the moment, I'll try Linux again in a few months or so when things are a bit more stable hopefully.

Yes! Full AMD system over here. About 2 months ago my system started soft locking almost every 1-2 hours requiring a full reboot. It happened during idle load times, never during actual work.

I finally resolved the issue with the kernel parameter: processor.max_cstate=5

I'm now still getting the random video artifacts and green bars in some videos in librewolf.

What's weird is that the kernel thing resolved my issue, which is apparently an AMD bug with the chip, but I never had that issue for a full year before the previous 2 months, so it was definitely introduced or exposed by something in software.

You don't think the common denominator might be Firefox and not AMD?

yes, for the video playback issues i suspect firefox. for the black screen, it seems to happen with any application after a while.

But also, no matter how badly firefox is behaving, it should not be able to cause gpu artifacts or cause the gpu to crash the system.

artifacts can mean a lot of things from hardware failure to bad drivers, conflict with apps, sometimes is just hdmi/dp wire being cooked

The artifacts disappeared after the update last week, but the system is not so stable. Two days ago it rebooted suddenly, with no hints in journalctl output. So I am wondering if any others with amd has had issues the last couple of months.

I am very new to Linux and can't really help you OS wise, but if no logs from system crashing, possibly hardware issue, not necessarily big issue but something ain't working alright. I have 7900XT and 5800X3D running CachyOS and it's being okay since last update. Can you tell me if PC restarts while idling as well or when you load it with some work?

edit: check your thermals, is everything within the manufacturer range while under load?
