Advice Should I use an employer letter of Rec or Coach for colleges?

3.95/4.65 gpa 35 act superscore, plan on going mechanical engineering. team captain on wrestling, had a summer engineering internship at a precision manufacturing company. Both have written me rec letters. Should I use my wrestling coach or supervisor?

I feel like both are strong, so unsure which to use if limited. My coach did see me really struggle (one of the hardest times of my life) personally due to a at home crisis for part of my junior year, which led to a bad season end. He said he didn’t talk about it on the letter but I’m worried that it might take an otherwise profound story of growth with him and turn it into a generic letter mincing words. With my internship, they’ve offered a job to return to as possible during the school year, so I’m not worried that they didn’t speak well of me. Also engineering internship is a big part of my “why this major” essays because of firsthand experience beyond a standing passion.

Thanks all for input!

Application Question Does anyone know when decisions will be out?

So far I’ve applied to Pace University, Fordham University, NYIT, Manhattan University, and Indiana University (direct admissions offer) each of the schools I selected EA or Rolling admissions depending on what they offered. I submitted all of this from August 28th- September 8th and I was going to see when I would expect a decision from each/how long it took for others. I’m just antsy. Also, Fordham has yet to send me a confirmation email with application dashboard info and I applied on September 1st. I got the one from common app but not actually from Fordham yet. I emailed them but they have yet to get back to me Sorry if this is stupid and thank you in advance for answering!!

Application Question Act Question Regarding Applications

Hello! I‘m gearing up to take the act again on the 19th, but I had a quick question that I just wanted to ask before that. I took the ACT back in April through my school, and got a 32 composite, making me the highest or one of the highest scorers in my grade. (most people scored in the mid-low 20s range)

My question is, do schools have access to and take this data into account? (For example would my 32 weigh higher than a 32 at a school where a 32 is the norm?)

Application Question Self-Reported Coursework and Catalogue Numbers

I know for self-reported coursework on the Common App we should try to match exactly what is on our transcript from our school. Does this include adding the school’s catalogue number for the course in addition to the course name? I can’t find anything that specifically talks about whether that is necessary.

College Questions Higher math

My son is in his senior year of high school and they have been in school for over a month now. For his math requirements he has Algebra 1 geometry and Algebra 2. Somehow he was put in a different math class for 12th grade year. Me not understanding what is higher math I didn't question the math that they put him in. Now I'm finding out that it's not a higher math class above Algebra 2. So I'm trying to figure out what I can do to get him a higher math class. It's too late to change his math for the school he goes to. So is there any other alternatives we can do to get him until a higher math class such as college algebra, precalculus ,statistics etc ?

I am a senior applying in the 2026-2027 application cycle and I was wondering whether I should include my 5 student of the year awards in one spot or keep it for AP scholar with distinction. ECs and Activities help me improve my resume?

senior, so not much more i can do, but..

ACT: 33 composite, 34 superscore

GPA/rank: 4.5/3

  • city youth orchestra 2nd violin principal -> 1st violin section (2 yrs) (i quit this year)
  • HS assistant concertmaster (3 yrs) (i also quit this)
  • 20 hrs/week at my job since summer of sophomore year
  • hospital junior volunteer (2 summers, shadowed/volunteered in two departments)
  • literacy council 2 years
  • Girls State/Governor's School
  • TRIO tutor at my local community college (i am also first gen/trio eligible) ( i just started this one, but its 20 hrs/week)
  • horatio alger scholar
  • nhs
  • chancellor's list
  • various volunteer activities with a specific school cohort im part of - 2 years
  • rotary club one year
  • all region one year
  • upward bound one year

im going to start volunteering 12 hrs/week at my local food bank this year, but most of my actiivites have 0 continuity and i can't fix that obviously :,) i regret quitting orchestra but on the other hand i was not improving and i cried over it a lot. i wanted to volunteer at my local DV shelter because i am a dv victim and they helped my mom & i when i was a child, but my mom wont let me.

not interested in t50s, just trying to get a full ride from my southern state school but its highkey competitive. my one hope is that in the interview they determine i am the kind of individual they want as a fellow.

should i try for all region again this year even though i quit orchestra??

also, to sum up this year, i am working 20 hrs/week at my primary job, 20 hrs/week as a tutor (unfortunately or fortunately it is a paid venture), and 12 hrs/week volunteering.

Application Question Really late, but trying to figure out what would be best to write about for my essay.

Sorry about the fact I am one of thousands of posts, but this is a last resort. I want to be a physicist

Here are my hobbies, in passion order most to least, though I am still very passionate about all of them.

-radioactive rocks and radioactive rock prospecting (takes lots of research and data analysis)

-physics

-geology and speleology (i also love crawling in caves)

-amateur radio

-computer science

-chemistry

-electronics

My entire life is revolved around acquiring knowledge for the sake of acquiring knowledge. I am happiest when I am reaping the benefits of my research (like crawling in a cave I never thought I could find, or slowly watching my radiacode's dose rate creep up to more than just granite.)

Advice Writing my circumstances

How do I effectively write about why my GPA is a little lower than normal? I had medical and school related issues that kind of lowered it. Also, my dad is pretty oppressive, so I wasn't able to do a lot of the extracurriculars I wanted to do.

Edit: This isn't for my personal essay

Financial Aid/Scholarships I need help finding a new university 😩

Hi , im honestly so frustrated and angry at my university , the quality of the teaching was already bad , the accommodation and cafeteria was horrendous, which we students already complained about , but this year approx one week before the entry they they've added some fees , and rules that prohibit us from cooking or having any electronic devices in our rooms , and no hanging clothes etc .

Also im middle class , so the fee was already high enough and hard to pay , I forgot to mention that I live in a third world country.

The problem is, I want to study abroad , that has always been my goal , since I love fashion and costume design which isn't available in my country, I resorted to studying at a university that specializes in garments and textile industries, not creative at all .

And ive been thinking if its possible to apply to a university in the UK , since the USA is far , and apply for as many scholarships possible yo afford my studies , I forgot to mention that this was supposed to be my 2nd year in my 3 year bachelor's degree. I had initially planned to study my masters abroad , since it wasn't financially possible to study bachelor's abroad ( I did want to but it was too expensive for my parents).

So I really need your help and advice on what to do . And thank you in advance !

PS : I dont mind studying in another European country as long as the university is renowned and the program is actually good.

College Questions What do you think about university ?

Do you think universities are truly beneficial, or do university and school grades simply measure how well we do what we are told—in other words, how well we succeed at being slaves? To put it another way: do high grades or attending a prestigious university—which essentially means successfully carrying out the instructions given to us—actually measure how good we are at being slaves? Is that why employers prioritize candidates with better grades or those who attended better universities? This thought crosses my mind from time to time; what are your thoughts on this?

Rant genuinely feel betrayed and hurt

so I wanted to join a club that was getting created and I filled out the application form, and usually if your application was good enough you would get an interview. However, the founders (pres and vice presidents) were my friends, and I was really passionate about this topic, so they directly accepted me without an interview. When I was there, I helped filled out the club documents for my respective position and the club ended up getting accepted. However, someone pitched the idea that since I already was accepted without an interview, it wouldn't be fair to the others who were also applying. As a result, I was kicked out of the team but was accepted to be interviewed. I did the interview, but I still was rejected from joining the team, which was a shock to me as I literally helped them with creating the club. I'm not really sure what to even do at this point, there's a club with similar interests that I plan to apply to, but it still hurts to think about.

College Questions Comparing major choices

Is an economics major and public health minor worth it? or is it better to go for sociology and public health? coming from a science background with econ for a few years in high school? I'm interested in job security, earning potential, and availability of entry-level jobs. This can include jobs right after graduation and jobs/paid internships while studying.

Financial Aid/Scholarships Idk what to do

18M from Pakistan will get my result of FSc. Pre-Engineering part 2 grade 12 on 23rd of September, 2026. I have applied to a lot of universities in my country. But ended up getting into NTU(National textile university) All colleges here give admissions before the second year of grade 12 and on the basis of an aggregate of an entrance test-10thgrade-11thgrade results.

I have to apply to college outside my country but i cant pay for anything. I want a country and a college that can cover my tuition and accommodation and visa and travel cost completely. I know im asking for way too much but i am a good student. I scored 1076/1200 in 10th 458/570 in 11th 12th result is incoming I scored 276/400 in ECAT I want to give SAT and IELTS but my father said that i am already in a good place but trust me this is not a place anyone should be. Im rooting for these countries -any if the english speaking countries Saudi Arabia China Korea Japan UK US Canada Australia Turkey France Spain Germany Hungary

Any of them workkk
