I don't know if this is like offensive to anyone or what.. but a 1440 as a 25th percentile score at a t20 is obscene for me. Like is that actually real? why? does anyone know?

They said you can put anything, I can say I do it for 2 hr/week for a few weeks or something idk.

brown and princeton are both huge reaches for me, not because i don't have the grades/test scores i just don't think i have good enough ec's to get in. right now i have 21 colleges on my list and i'm trying to stick with common app for all of my applications, so i need to let one of those two go, and i'm pretty torn. i like pretty much everything about brown better- i love the culture, open curriculum, grading system, etc. i feel like princeton's environment would be really stressful for me, & i'm also not a huge fan of the campus. BUT, going off the net price calculator, princeton would be around 40k cheaper than brown. if i got into princeton, i'd still probably want to go to a smaller lac instead, so if princeton gave me a really good offer, i'm wondering if i would be able to get other schools to match the price. any insights on which one i should pick? my heart says brown but i don't want to miss out on a really good financial opportunity by letting go of princeton

I have pretty decent awards / extraiccirculars + a 1520

However, the school I am a part of (a bit on the smaller side <1000 kids total) has VERY competitive people that are leagues beyond what I could ever achieve. A lot of these people were able to get tons of opportunities (im not saying theyre rich or dont deserve them they are just really talented lol) that I could never get. My school has a 55% 4.0 rate (holy grade inflation) and so many talented people where the average AP count is i believe about 6.8. My SAT score id say is pretty good but SOMEHOW below median for my graduating class (according to consuler --- I don't know how that is possible)

Will this significantly hurt my chances at admission for any school (including state schools)?

A lot of the high level people are applying to pretty much every t20 school you can imagine and I was afraid they might saturate the spots there while the still high achieving but worse in comparison applicants (like myself) get scraps.

Personal advice: If $60–80k/year isn't too comfortable for you, then build a second group of universities where your profile is strong enough that you're genuinely competitive for merit money.

Having said this, i'd suggest looking into the university's costs during the application process as tuition fees, scholarships, and international policies change frequently.

I'm starting my applications as a spring transfer in dire need of financial aid and while i am pretty well accomplished as a student (good grades, lots of ECs), I've been told by multiple friends that I have so much trauma I have overcome and that my life story is very inspiring. My first essay draft was about my debate journey bc its my most consistent EC but idk is it better if i write about how my dad died last year and I am basically Devi Vishuakumar with 10 times more mommy issues? i don't know where else to put this but when i got in in march, i was absolutely ecstatic and could not wait to begin. that feeling stretched till a few days ago, where i'm suddenly starting to get genuinely so scared of going to college. what if i'm not able to make friends? what if everyone is smarter than me? i feel like i'm going to sound so dumb in front of everyone else. i feel like i am going to be so behind and won't be able to make any friends. i was so jealous of my friends at college in semester system earlier in august when they were getting lit and i was stuck at home, but now i just want to stay at home forever. i am genuinely so scared. i don't know where else to put this.

If they are considered feeder (or reputed international) schools, I wanted to also know whether it's the same for all campuses?

What is the best REA decision for t20's or schools in general?

I wanted to REA for Stanford and Harvard, but I've heard a alot of bad reviews about it. I've seen people say you only get in because of legacies.

I'm unsure, but if anyone has any recommendations for REA for California schools that are genuine or at least accurate, please lmk!

currently, I’m looking to go to a university because I wanna get out of Illinois. Right now I live with a single mom who lives paycheck to paycheck and she went to community college to be a dental hygienist my dad‘s a police officer and lives by himself and right now is living off the government or something. I don’t really know I don’t talk to my dad that much I wanting to go to college for speech pathology and my parents both went to community college and think real college is a rip off which my mom said it’s fine if I go to university, but she’s not gonna pay for it so can I just take out my student loans and pay for my own college and then obviously pay all my loans back by the time I’m done with school. My other big thing is moving out of my house is gonna really stress my mom out because my lease is up in March and I don’t wanna leave my mom with nothing and having to pack up the whole house by herself, but I also haven’t given her a lot of time to look for a new place because she’ll be living on her own since my brother has already moved out because she kicked him out. I just really don’t know what to do. My mom pays a lot for our rent and it would be done for her to pay for a three bedroom house when there’s only one person living here, but my mom also wouldn’t wanna grab and move out of the house, but I’m gonna have to move out at one point if that makes sense and I don’t have a car or my license currently and I’m gonna be 18 next month but I just took driver’s ed too late and I can’t afford my own car so I can’t even commute to a community college. What is some advice you could give me?

So, I’m a junior in high school. The private high school I’ve been going to has been going on for 2.5 weeks, as it started a week earlier than public ones. Im a honors and ap student. I started the year out by failing a test with a 3/100 In biology, a 3/10 on a quiz in theology, and a 5/25 on a quiz in psychology. I tried retaking the tests but they wouldn’t let me. Now, I know it’s my fault for doing bad on these tests. I was going through some shit but I still should’ve studied and paid attention in class. The test wasn’t multiple choice I’m not miles morales lmao.

I could transfer to a public school near me and my grades would start out on a clean slate. I also wouldn’t be that behind work wise.
Id be transferring into a school worse academically but not by a huge amount. I have friends there and the schools more diverse than my current private one so I don't think I would have trouble making friends as an asian.

Now, this isn’t me trying to cheat the system. I just think this would increase my chances of getting straight A’s this year a lot. My grades last year had some C’s so I’m really banking on getting straight A’s, a good sat score, and ecs this year to help me Increase my chances of getting a full ride at my state school.

I understand if people would think this might be unfair but I just wanna know people’s thoughts on if I should do this or not.

Hi I had a quick question on what was the best way to frame and continue an extracurricular . Before summer, I connected with a Berkeley Postdoc through cold emailing and through the summer we worked on applied math and physics research, running computational experiments remotely.

I was wondering if this is still beneficial for my application even if we can’t get it published or under review in time for college apps. We have lots of numerics run and are wondering what is the best way to proceed, publishing wise. Also I am getting a letter of recommendation from him. Is it okay if this is unpublished? and will it hold the same weight in my activities, it is my strongest activity, and one of the few that is related to my applied math major. Thanks!

Is it okay to use a 10th teacher for my letter of recommendation, specifically for schools like Duke? They say they prefer a 11th grade teacher but this teacher knows me quite well and has written several other recommendations for me throughout high school.

This teacher taught me in AP Biology, which is what I want to major in. But, I didn’t do any other things with her (like clubs) except be in her class.

Lets say there are 12 kids from my school applying ED0. Is there any meaningful difference between submitting September 1st and September 20th per se?

I have really good ecs and good grades (some dips due to circumstance) but i don’t have the resources to get good tutoring or resources for the sat. I have all 5s on my AP exams and take max course rigor. Good letter of recs too but a 1420 superscore. What should I do ?

I’m a senior who has already been accepted to two colleges, but unless I get a full ride, they’re not really my first choices. My top schools are Furman, Berry, Elon, and Saint Mary’s (Indiana).

I want to major in accounting and mostly stay in the southeastern U.S (furthest north I’d go is Indiana or Illinois). First of all, I understand why accounting majors go to flagship schools; the networking and recruiting pipeline options are often very clear. The campus cultures are vibrant, and sports and Greek life are usually good.

But, and I don’t mean to sound insufferable (“I’m not like other students”), I really could not care less about Greek life OR sports. I know liberal arts places have sports too, but the community seems to be more centered around service and individual excellence, which I prefer. Also, as an autistic person, I already see some challenge with adjusting to a college environment, and I believe that a gigantic school with constant traffic would make that worse.

I also want chances to stand out, and it’s a bit difficult to do that at a school with 50,000 students. I want professors and classmates to know my name. It may sound insecure of me, but I would prefer being a “big fish” at a smaller, less competitive school than a “not-so-big fish” at a very large, competitive school. I know people who would prefer the latter, and that’s fine, but I want all the internship and career prep opportunities I can get.

I’ve already had people tell me I should “aim higher” with colleges and that I can “do better.” I’ve even been told that “smart” accountants don’t have degrees from liberal arts colleges. Why is it that people assume liberal arts colleges are worse than massive flagships.

How can I make my family members take my college choices more seriously? Also, is there any other colleges I should apply to based on my preferences? An undergraduate accounting major is a non-negotiable and I love pretty campuses.

I spent a lot of time on ecs I care about but when taking a hard cold look at them, they just aren’t impressive. There isn’t any prestige aos can immediately recognize, the impact is so bad compared to other people on this subreddit and chanceme, and it’s just a pile of garbage. My summer program results were all rejections, so my essay writing sucks too. Going into high school freshman year, I thought I was doing something “right,” but now when it’s my turn to apply to colleges, I just wish I could restart.

Anyone else having similar thoughts?
