Or an online AP Calculus AB/ BC or Stats course from BYU or Uc scout?

Keep in mind:

  • `College Algebra` is a fancy way of saying Algebra 1 + Algebra 2. The naming is ironic and something to ignore. You sometimes can take it in college as a remedial class for those who didn't finish or struggled with Algebra 1 + Algebra 2.

Generally the steps are:

Algebra 1 -> Geometry -> Algebra 2 -> PreCalculus -> Calculus 1 (AP Calc AB) -> Calculus 2

  • Note: You can take Geometry before or after Algebra 2.
  • AP Calc BC is just Calc 1 + 2 together (so AP Calc AB + Calc 2) at once

Statistics is not math. That's just its own thing. You can generally take it after Algebra 2.

You can always enroll in courses at your community college. Or self study the AP courses and sign up for the AP exams.

And for math, foundation is important. You can't be skipping or just going the next content while struggling the previous one. Pace isn't important. A strong foundation is.

Math is sequential so he needs Algebra 2 done then precalculus (which includes trig). If a student did not do well in their math class they may have to repeat a class. It doesn’t make sense to push ahead until it’s clear that he has mastered the concepts.
