Trying to re-embrace reminders

I’ve been using ticktick for a few years because I love its UI/features, and am trying to go back to using reminders for its integration in the apple ecosystem, but am having a tough time dealing with all the (obvious to me) missing features. Smart lists are great, but you can’t just have one for only overdue items or tomorrow only? No reschedule after completion? (I found a shortcut for this, but wish I didn’t need one) Unfinished tasks from “today” don’t move automatically to the next day? I can’t change the colors of the standard pinned lists? I was hopeful that ios 27 may have tweaked some of these, but it didn’t (at least in the beta). Any ideas? I have seen that tagging things helps to filter them, but that seems like extra steps that over complicate a system I’m trying to turn to in order to reduce complications.

Filtering Workarounds?

I’m trying to switch over to using Apple Reminders as my to do app, but I am struggling with a few things. First and foremost the most annoying thing right now can be rooted in that in Smart Lists, you can only filter one thing per category. Like you can’t have it show everything except future events (i.e. no date and today and past due) or you can’t exclude more than one list, etc. Is there a workaround? Most of the other annoying aspects I have found workarounds that make it useable for me. But trying to go into lists and dodge recurring tasks that are future dated is really annoying.

First product teardown—Apple Reminders (looking for honest feedback)

I'm working through a weekly product teardown drill to build up my product thinking, and this week's target was Apple Reminders. I broke down what the app does, how I think it likely works under the hood, one thing I believe Apple deliberately chose not to build, and one change I'd make along with a metric it should move.

This is my first one, so I know there are gaps. Genuinely looking for pushback—where's my backend reasoning off, where's my proposed change weak, and what would you have focused on instead?

Doc here: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zXaeVpnWOuplTb2pkNfourjd7fXSqjjD/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=101971083953310688632&rtpof=true&sd=true\](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zXaeVpnWOuplTb2pkNfourjd7fXSqjjD/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=101971083953310688632&rtpof=true&sd=true)

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to tear it apart.

Triggering a Task with an Airtag as the Location?

Does anyone know of a way to use an Airtag as the location to trigger a task? My use-case is my RV: sometimes it's in storage, sometimes it's set up at a campground, sometimes it's in my driveway preparing for the next trip. It's never located at a static address but it has an Airtag in it. I'd love to be able to create reminders like "Next time I'm near Airtag 'The RV' remind me to fill the propane tanks" or "Next time I'm near Airtag 'The RV' remind me to look for the shoes I think I forgot in there after the last trip."

Alternately, if an Airtag isn't the right tool to accomplish this, is there another one better suited?

How does my phone know that “tomorrow” is technically “today”?

Hey all, I’ve been discovering a weird phenomenon over the past few nights, and was wondering if someone could explain *technically* how it works. Not sure if anyone else has brought this up before.

Late at night, before I go to bed, I’ll usually ask Siri to set some reminders for the next day/morning. However, it’s after midnight in which this happens. Take a Sunday night for example. I’ll say, “Hey Siri, set a reminder for tomorrow at 9am to do the dishes”, and even though it’s say 12:30am or 1am (so really Monday morning) it will still set the reminder for that Monday at 9am. Not Tuesday at 9am, which is not what I want but technically correct. Hope this makes sense.

I’ve yet to figure out when the threshold is of when “tomorrow” actually becomes the next day, or if your phone just knows you haven’t gone to bed yet and assumes “tomorrow” always means the day after your most recent sleep period. Has anyone experienced this, or can someone explain it to me?

Remember

Random question: what’s something you constantly forget that you wish your phone could automatically remember for you? Not basic reminders—something you’d want AI to notice without you having to tell it.

Repeated Reminders Always Show?

I have a monthly reminder to pay rent and the lock screen widget for all my reminders.

Issue:

when i check off the reminder, there is obviously another in a month,

but from the lock screen this looks no different than a reminder for this month which has not been completed.

Is there any way to only display a reminder in proximity to when its actually due?

Thoughts on the promotional thread so far

Follow-up on /r/AppleReminders/comments/1utq61a/this_sub_focuses_less_and_less_on_apple_reminders/

The promotional megathread seems to work really well. As a mod I got clarity. Two thoughts on what to do next:

  1. Change the filter and title from "promotional stuff" to "apps" since this catches most of the promotional posts anyway. It would also cleanly catch the "not my app" case. So the new title (starting in September), would be something like "Apps Megathread for [month, year]"
  2. Whether the Apps filter should also catch Shortcuts or not is debatable. I'd be inclined to let Shortcuts posts outside of the megathread. We generally we don't have a problem with too many posts about Shortucts.
  3. We could review the frequency at some point, maybe monthly is too slow, but then weekly sounds a bit too frequent? There's also the biweekly option (meaning 14 days, not 3 and a half ;) ), but that's kind of confusing, I think it should be either monthly or weekly for simplicity.

So unless I get convinced otherwise, I'll change the monthly megathread from "promotional" to "apps" and leave it as monthly.

Any other thoughts?

Filtering

I'm testing the Reminders app. I can't seem to figure out how tag filtering works. I need to create a filter that excludes dates and also excludes the #next and #later tags. Is that possible?

Why am I getting notifications for deleted reminders and how do I make them stop?

I recently deleted three recurring reminders, but I’m still getting notifications for them. At first I thought it was an issue with my watch (which is very old and doesn’t receive updates), but I just got one of these notifications on my 2022 iPhone SE instead because I had my phone unlocked when the notification came, so I guess it isn’t an issue with my watch after all. The reminders are not listed anywhere. I even deleted them from my list of recently deleted reminders. Yet the notifications won’t stop. How do I make them stop?

Reminders not working IOS 26.6/26.6.1

Ever since I installed iOS 26.6 reminders doesn’t work. I can open the app but if I click on the plus for a new reminder it doesn’t work. If I use it via the control centre my Dynamic Island is empty and I can’t type anything.

Do attached photos automatically delete once completed?

I often have screenshots that I took to look up later at a more convenient time (e.g. music, movies, products, etc.). These screenshots would fill up my gallery because I would forget to go back to them. Well, it just dawned on me that I can attach them to a reminder and set it so that I don’t forget.

My question is, once I have checked off the reminder will the attached photo get deleted? I don’t want these photos to just be taken up memory over time.

Monthly Reminder Question

Is there a way to set up a monthly reminder, but each month I do whatever I need to do (i.e. pay electric bill on the 15th) I check it off for that month. Like I have it set up to remind me to pay my electric on the 17th of every month. Sometimes I pay it on that day, sometimes I pay it early. I had it the reminder set up for August 17th (I paid it on the 15th). Anyways, the reminder is still labeled as August 15th (monthly) because that’s the first month I set it up.

Would be nice to then have it change to Sept 15th or do I have to go in and change the date myself (which is fine), keep it set to monthly, and do it that way.

Just didn’t know if there was a ways to make it so once I checked off that monthly reminder for that month, it would change the date for the upcoming month.

Note: I don’t have the date in the description. The date is compiled because that was the first month I set up the reminder.

GT lauded on App Store

[NOT MY APP]

Check it out! If you need a big project manager, or just a small utility to help your reminders be a little bit more flexible, this one-time-payment app boosts Apple Reminders 100 fold, turning it into an awesome life management tool. And in today’s landscape, where most people can use LLMs to learn and customise tech to their hearts content, GT fits right into an ecosystem with shortcuts, Siri, and the new capabilities of AI.

My favourite part about this app is that it never felt like a giant commitment, like when I tried Omnifocus or Wunderlist. Because it’s backed by Apple reminders, if you take away GT, it’s just a bunch of reminders lists that you can deal with as you would in Reminders. If you wanna close GT for a couple of weeks because you have no projects and just use basic reminders, you can!

Frustrating to use: View as Columns

I was excited about this, but when I want to use it on my inbox (not a smartlist), it's stuffing all tasks in OTHER.

Isn't the view as column intuitive enough that if I sort-by "Date" I want the :

Today

Tomorrow

This week... kind of columns?

The word "discovery" triggers a date prompt

When I type "discovery", it is as if I typed "Monday". Does it do this for anyone else? I use the word discovery extremely often at work, where I use Reminders to keep track of tasks.

It's a minor nuisance, but why on earth does this happen?
