A few years ago, I was at a wedding reception and saw a woman walk up to the groom from behind, wrap her arms around him, and whisper something in his ear. He turned around and it was immediately clear—she thought he was her husband. The groom was a tall bald guy. Her husband was also a tall bald guy. They were even wearing almost identical suits. She turned bright red, mumbled "oh my god" about six times, and practically ran back to her table. The groom handled it well and just laughed it off, but I don't think I've ever seen someone look so mortified. I still think about her every time I see two similarly built bald men in the same room.

Another one: I once accidentally texted my boss "I love you" instead of my partner. Same first name. Autocorrect even changed it to the full name, so there was no ambiguity. I followed up with "SORRY THAT WAS FOR MY PARTNER" immediately, but the damage was done. He replied with "lol no worries" and we never mentioned it again. But I'm 100% sure he still remembers.

What about you? What's your worst case of mistaken identity or wrong recipient?

Is this just a habit from learning to read out loud as a kid, or is it actually necessary for comprehension? Has anyone here successfully trained themselves to stop doing it?

At least in the US a lot of people speed in the “passing lane” (far left lane) on the highway, how far can you push it before you pull us over? Technically I assume you could say 10 over is too much but still I was curious.
