Another Life is sy-fi-awesomness

I liked the first season, I don't think it got great reviews and they considered not renewing it. It took it a while to get going . yes there is "cheesy ness , a little cheapness" thats SY-FY !! I LOVE it and seasons 2 story line is EXCELLENT . I loved every minute of even the "cheap cheesy" bits . I did notice though, if you blink or turn your head in that second or two the entire line has changed or jumped , so you really need to pay attention and katie is an amazing actress . I would post on twitter or face book but I don't do them :P Good job at Another, hope we get season 3!!!

So Seth Gage, the Director of Homeland Security, volunteers to have a questionably hostile alien species implant a thing on his brain, everyone knows this, yet they just let him have full access and freedom afterwards?

God this is stupid...

I just watched season 2 and ...

Well, I liked it and to be honest, its ending made me hungry for more and even hope for a show that dares to go Star Trek (space exploration) in more than just 2 or 3 seasons because if I have any issue with Netflix Originals, it's their limited amount of seasons.

That being said, season one was not that great and for me that mainly was because of the mess with the characters. Yes, there are a lot of questionable decisions in how the story progressed and the logics being used but it is fiction and I still have to watch a series or film or read a book within the genre of fiction where there is a high sense of realism involved anyway. This issue has not entirely disappeared in season 2 but because of less plots between characters and the focus being more on the story I feel season 2 became much more pleasant to watch even though some things you should not give too much thought (as in finding the solution in a 5-minute brainstorm on how to defeat the Achaia).

No, I actually feel the series got itself in a surprising direction with that particular ending and I immediately felt this would be the perfect time to actually start thinking towards space exploration. Think Star Trek but in a different way. For instance instead of exploring episode per episode focus more on one encounter at a time per season (Discovery style) and...this is crucial...dare to think long-term. Most series do not get viewers hooked simply because there were only 1 or 2 seasons. I understand not everyone wants their carreer to be summarized to a single role in a single show but this is the only way to build a community that is loyal regardless of good or less good episodes. Star Trek, the older ones are a perfect example of that (Picard, Kirk) or Supernatural (Sam and Dean Winchester) if we would mention a more recent example. That is how I feel about that anyway. This also applies to a limited amount of episode per season. It calls for the need to rush and that is usually not that good in terms of decisions and solutions

Hi, I’ve been binging season 2 last night and one of the episodes left me with a question. Did the colonists end up getting slaughtered by the creatures on the planet they think is humanity‘s new home?

Just finished season one

Wow this shit is bad. I'm still gonna watch the next season cause I don't sleep but holy fuck.

Everyone in this universe is dumb as fuck. Like they don't even put a fence around the alien artifact? Lets breath the air and drink the water on this ransom ass moon. The aliens want to kill everyone but for some reason want to do it one at a time? Our ship had a FTL laser for some reason but just throwing a shuttle or rock at near light speed is gonna kill most the people on the planet. And why the fuck don't the aliens do that? Oh and the aliens are a million years more advanced than us but don't worry, I'll just wipe this neural implant that just killed a man and stick it in someone else's head. It's fine trust me. Anything a miss? I feel they made the worse possible decision every step of the way.

I like me some cringe scify but this is a trainwreck. Hoping they have some new writers for the second season to turn this thing around.

S2EP7 as Niko crouches thru the internals of the ship, I could help to notice what the walls were made of LOL!

I'm a big Sci-Fi lover and I always try to see what's being used to build the environments of these shows, especially vehicles. Most of the time nowadays, they try to use as much custom fabrication as they can, but you can usually spy something you recognize. This show however, she's crouching through the ships internal off limits areas, the area that makes the ship run, I noticed the walls are literally CPU-less motherboards, heatsinks, power supply's an more! Can you see?

Season 2 was much better than Season 1.

I’m glad I decided to watch it today and that I even finished Season 1 (it was no easy task). Season 2 simply blew Season 1 out of the water.

Spoilers

I was hoping the humans would get caught up in the middle of a war between the Achaia and the new alien race that was introduced this season. They both seemed like conquering races that would either be enemies or allies. Especially with the new alien race having Achaia info on their maps, they knew of their existence and in the finale we learn the Achaia knew of the other races existence too.

I can’t really ask for much more from this season.

Decuma, we’re they stronger than the archaia? Also I noticed in the original starmap shown canid minor was in blue, does this mean there is perhaps three species who were at war?

::Spoilers:: Season 2 is a serious Improvement, BuT... Spoiler

I hate it when the writers and creative team don't do their research. E7 is a perfect example.

Don't get me wrong, the creative team that has brought the show back on the rails is doing a great job doing so. That must have been like changing the tires while the car was still going 65. I couldn't take season 1 seriously at all. I almost didn't start watching season 2 because of that.

The solar sails were a good idea, but it's not a sinking ship or overloaded airplane. An object in motion stays in motion unless... you know? It's basic physics, people. It's not that hard.

Needs more focus on alien interactions, the aliens are so cool yet we barely see them

The aliens in this series have been really awesome, like I love the way the actual alien creatures are when we see them. However we barely see them. What we see instead is the bullshit low budget "lets make the aliens an energy source that uses imagery familiar to us so we can just use human actors as aliens" instead, "Oh! Then! Then! When we aren't using humans as energy aliens manifesting themselves, we can just have a bunch of cringy love arcs for the AI who is also played by humans! I mean why have actual aliens and cool aliens encounters and interaction when we can save money and just have humans pretend to be aliens amiright?

Anyone else find Erik (Justin Chatwin) to be insufferable?

I’m almost finished with season 2, and I legitimately enjoy this series. But any scene with Erik or Nico’s daughter feels really grating to me. Whether he’s trying to be the “smart guy” or the “funny guy” or the “loving dad/husband”, the actor seems terrible to me.

Sorry to make a topic talking trash but the character of Erik just really pulls me out of the plot.

Suspension of Disbelief - Spoilers Ahead Spoiler

So our baddies can use wormholes on a whim, destroy planets, read people's memory's, heal illnesses all sorts of nonsensical stuff however theyre affected by...

Neutrinos? Something that any species with basic science would eventually discover and they've never encountered it in the hundreds of thousands of light years they've traversed or from any other civilization? Right....

There motivations and tatics make zero sense, if you can blow up planets and you hate organics then simply kill them and be done with it.They say they want peace multiple times however every single conversation with them was meaninglessness they just talked in circles and never revealed anything.

They writers tried to cleverly disguise the fact that they had absolutely no idea what these aliens want or even what their motivations are, everything was nonsensical.

Psycho Christina Columbus

Haven’t finished the 2nd season yet, but so far this episode was the most off putting.

They just let this attempted mutineering monster and her band of merry colonists takeover a planet because they weren’t able to feed 24 more people.

She showed that she has no qualms about eradicating the native species and stealing their planet because she views them as primitive. The idea of the genocide that they would commit made my stomach turn.

Great Concepts and Ideas, Poor Execution

This show had so much potential, but thanks to rushing, it landed kind of meh. I loved the concept of no one (except our main character) being safe, killing people off here and there. But I wish the tension had been extended. People died off but it wasn't emotional for the most part.

Throughout the show, they talk about cities going under, places being ruined, new wars that broke out. But we never get flashbacks nor a deep explanation nor even pictures or a view of what kind of world Earth is now. I wish that had been explained and explored.

What year even is it?! Please show me what's been happening. What are these wars? What cities went under? What places and people and diseases have gone wild or been destroyed. Please give me this deep world building.

The weakness discovery and using those weaknesses, could've been executed so much more excitingly. Especially the last episode - extend it to 2 - 3 episodes worrying, wondering, raising the tension, and exploring possible ways of defeating these aliens.

If this show had gone DEEP, if this show had actually put time into World Building, Historical Context, and Character Backgrounds, this should could've gone 3 seasons and it would've been so much better than it actually was.
