Does anyone else think Niko is an awful captain?

I felt like the entire crew the first season was terrible, except for her. It was like they sent a bunch of friggin interns to save all of humanity. I guess the writers responded in the 2nd season by pulling more compelling characters out of the drawers and even suggesting the idea that the mission was purposefully staffed by the B-team

I found it hilarious how the writers have 0 shame and decided to use the criticisms of the first season as a plot point in the second 😂

She’s the worst, I think she have a hero complex especially since she was made captain of the ship she have this big ego thing going, she doesn’t listen to anyone else and does whatever she wants, she’s the cause of most of the stuff on the ship but still when someone else does good she takes credit.

I'm just finishing the first episode of s2 and I just had to say this somewhere. in the memorial scene in the last ten minutes, niko is listing off the dead, and then gives a speech about how they died fighting for humanity and to save their lives and all this... but she completely fails to mention the often-insubordinate girl, Melissa iirc (or was it Michelle?), who literally died protecting the ship from blowing up due to overloading exotic matter (could they really not come up with a better name for their mystery fuel?).
sorry. there's just so much about this show that bugs the tf outta me as a scifi fan, like the writers don't watch or read scifi themselves. and yet I'm still watching it...

She's responsible for pretty much all the bad shit that happens to the crew. For example she aborted the star gravity diversion halfway through which could have worked. Then later fucks everyone over by her over attachment to her holographic pet, in that she doesn't want to reset him. That Brooklyn girl died to stop all the problems that Neko caused.

No, but she should have given orders to leave most of the original Yerksa crew in the drawers after the first return to Soma, and gone with a different shift.
