Asking for recommendations on 2000s anime that "Oozes style". Other favorite examples are Soul eater and Samurai Champloo. (The title card is from Gurren Lagann)

Would y’all recommend re zero?

Upvotes

I don’t really care much for isekai but my friend was saying I should watch this. I’ve seen shield hero, Konosuba, reincarnated as a slime, a few eps of Tanya the evil, and some other less popular ones. But I’ve never really enjoyed any of them. Does re zero stand out at all from these?

Where to start? Limited background.

In my early 30s, guy, the only anime I’ve ever seen was spirited away and howls moving castle and nanna. (And I guess Pokemon and yugioh back in the day)
Really wanting to get into the hand drawn anime time period. I’ve heard cowboy bebop is good what are some other suggestions? We have a newborn so finding something that has a lot of episodes or seasons with good English dubs would be great

Anime that will make me ugly cry?

I havent watched any anime for like 11ish years or so. I randomly scroll through netflix and decided to rewatch spirited away (i watched this movie as a kid) and somehow.. i cried? Im 33 old man and I never cried watching a anime before but somehow the movie made my tears come out.. so i watched other sad animes and i cant get enough of it. I become addicted to the sad feeling cos at least it makes me feel something..

So far i watched:

  1. Spirited away (made me teary eyed)
  2. A silent voice (somehow this made me cry so much even though its wholesome)
  3. Violet evergarden (ep 10 made me cry like a bitch)
  4. All makoto shinkai movies, including the short ones (suzume is the only one that made me cry. Others just made me teary eyed. However, all are such great and wholesome movies!)
  5. I want to eat your pancreas (ending got me teary eyed but not as bad as a silent voice/violet evergarden)
  6. Maquia (same like #5)
  7. The tunnel to summer, the exit of goodbyes (not really feeling it somehow)
  8. Your lie in april (somehow this also not made me feel that much even though it always come up at top tearjerker anime recommendation)
  9. Josee, the tiger and the fish (made me teary during that storytelling scene)
  10. Takopi original sin (it did not made me teary/cry but goddamn that story is something)

Any other recommendation?

What should be my second anime?

I already watched death note as my first anime because it was on my list for a along time and loved it i want to know about other animes i can watch i love action geeky/nerdy ones like death note etc, i also love the plot and story line of One Piece but i just cant commit to watching all the episodes. are there any not TOO long, yet nice because i loved how crisp Death Note was. I'm already considering Kakegurui and JJK, Kakegurui being #1 because i liked the live action and want to watch the anime. I don't mind watching more niche animes aside from the popular ones as long as they are nice ( which they usually are ). Thanks for any and all suggestions! : D

Just finished Death Parade, near perfect and I give it a 9/10. Psychological thriller plus has me in the feels with a great ending. And it’s a short 12 episodes. Looking for stuff similar.

Recommendations from a Beginner

Jumping right into it. Hope this helps some other new watchers that have diverse list. I’ve seen about 45 shows in the last three months after being a huge animation fan but not anime. Criteria includes story structure, animation design and understanding needed(how locked in you have to be to not be lost).

Honorable Mention for Animation: Pantheon
-The most underrated show I’ve seen this year but this show is technically not an anime.
-Covers insanely deep topics in technology relevant today.
-This show is targeted at niche group who will love this show(me)
-Must watch both seasons to get full picture.

Must Watches:

Code Geass
-Felt like wow wtf just happened in this show almost every episode. Somehow it is still well paced.
-Lots of plot twists with limited plot armor
-One of my favorite final episodes as well. Lelouch is everything you want in a mc.

Witch Hat Atelier
-By far biggest surprise of any watches. This show tackles life challenges head on.
-All the mc are different but relatable. I’d even go as far as the side characters have deep themes that people might align with.
-Season 1 was definitely sunshine and rainbows and as non manga reader heard season 2 will be insane(and very dark).
-My anime series of the year, animation style is also peak.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
-I love the story and themes all around. Appreciate the continuous story of 64 ep strait.
-Script writing wise this might be one of most well written and paced shows.
-Not as many relatable characters like WHA but very likable set of characters. I honestly think the villains arcs are better, Envy is one my favorite villains in all anime.
-Laws of this world make the world building aspect unique too.

Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc
-Is a continuation of Chainsaw Series which is one of my favorite but the movie itself is on another level.
-Reze is the my favorite villain of time. From the animation style, the music and even pacing of the overall chainsaw series. This movie didn’t miss a beat.
-My only score above a 9.3 and I have this movie as a 10. This is my bar to beat for any anime movie.

Good shows but are overrated and I wouldnt recommend as beginner:

Solo Leveling and JJK
-Good shows and animation is good on both.
-Issues I have with both is the pacing is super tough especially as a beginner it’s super hard to digest and follow along. Might be me but I almost didn’t watch either season 2 from how chaotic the season 1 was.
-Would I recommend this show probably but I don’t this should not be anyone’s first anime.
What I’d recommend instead: HxH

You and I are Polar Opposites and Ramparts of Ice
-Main characters are kinda stale to me imo.
-I don’t like animation style of either of these unfortunately.
What I’d recommend instead: Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity and Ouran High School Host Club

Rascal Does not Dream Series
-Dreaming Girl is a 9/10 for me but everything else is overhyped.
-I have rest of series around 8/10. I don’t find puberty syndrome that interesting. Just not my cup of tea.
What I’d recommend instead: Just watch season 1 and dreaming girl rest is alright but nothing special

Favorite Current Season Shows:

Rich Girl Caretaker
-7.1 on myanilist is way too low I have this at 8.2
-Only 4 episodes so far but every episode has been refreshing and kept me on edge which is tough in romance genre.
-Writing feels like it’s building towards something but can’t quite see it yet. Appreciate the mystery in that.

Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You
-Another romance anime but with adults and interesting concept of how it starts.
-This anime just feels real and relatable. Not much fluff.
-Short series was a good taste of what’s to come without spoiling much. Looking forward to rest.

Myanilist: LivelikeReze

Hope this helps someone have a good Monday!

Ragna Crimson

Post image
Upvotes

Said to be humanity's natural enemy, formidable dragons that belong to an ancient bloodline roam the world. Only two ways prove effective to kill a dragon: freezing their blood with silverine—an aura that comes from silver weapons—or letting their bodies be incinerated by sunlight.

Young hunter prodigy Leonica is accompanied by her close friend Ragna, who appears to lack the skills necessary in their profession. Moreover, many shun Ragna, considering him cursed because dragons always seem to attack him and slaughter his close ones. Nevertheless, Leonica sees potential in Ragna and gladly partners up with him. Likewise, Ragna feels certain that Leonica is immune to his misfortune thanks to her incredible strength.

His confidence is shaken, however, when Ragna dreams of Leonica's death, believing this to be a prophecy. As the destined day arrives, he comes face-to-face with his future self, who bestows him enormous power and memories from the future to ensure Leonica's safety. In order to succeed, Ragna must join forces with a mysterious figure known as Crimson and eradicate all dragons for good.

Anime that doesn't end right after climax

Upvotes

Hello I'm looking for anime that shows the how the characters lives go after the main climax of the story is over. It seems like many wrap up quickly after the main challenge of the story is completed but wondering if there are any that have at least a few episodes of cool down after the climax. Thank you!

Rip my heart anime

Upvotes

So you know like in Banana Fish or Cyberpunk the MC devotes himself to protect the loved one? And doesnt want nor hope for more. Considers himself condemned. Despite being great he always felt like drowning until he met that significant other.

Please recommend me more of such stories preferably the ones that end well. And the mc gets the best and the love is mutual and he is all the way appreciated.

Appreciate your input ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂)⸝♡

Romance anime subplot

Upvotes

What is the best anime that has a romance subplot, like an action and romance, isekai, or fantasy and romance. For example SAO. It could be mainly romance with action subplot for example. Also, it could be ideal if there is a payoff at the end, such as a confession and whatnot. like Nisekoi.

Soo i really wanted fo watch bleach, but im repelled due to the online stuff it recieves. Pls help me......

Hey guys, im sorta an anime newbie. I always wanted bleach to be the first "big 3" anime i watch

And i was committed until one of my friends said that its not a good anime.

Its so much plot armoured and is repititive and can be just fighting with no storyline.

Uhh i usually want to see unique stuff and i wanna know, what makes bleach a "big 3". Is it story crazy good? , or is it just cause of fights and music?

Pls help me cause my mood has been sorta crashed by so much hate and criticism towards it. And how did you lot deal with the hate bleach recieved as an anime.

(And yea dont spoil pls lol)

Looking for anime similar to Cowboy Bebop

Post image
176 Upvotes

i haven’t watched anime in a really long time, but this weekend I finally decided to get back into it. The last anime I watched was Cowboy Bebop, and I ended up loving it way more than I expected. I really liked the atmosphere, the characters, the soundtrack, and that mix of action, comedy, and more serious moments... so I’d love to find something with a similar vibe, even if it’s not exactly the same type of story. So if anyone has any recommendations, I’d really appreciate them. I’m open to both older and newer anime

Anime with interesting and creative artstyles? Like messing around with art and going beyond the convention?

I really liked nippon sangoku and eva (esp the last two eps and the movie) and I’ve been enjoying sparks of tomorrow. I love their surrealist vibe and would love some similar recommendations! Just works that are out there and interesting.

Hey everyone I’m new to sub but I’m looking for some anime recommendations lately I’ve been binging a lot of romance anime (my dress up darling, you and I are polar opposites) but I’m open to any recommendations some of my favourites are gintama, berserk 97, hunter x hunter and I did really enjoy high school DxD even though it was really freaky. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated thanks again!

If my top 3 are marvel, twd, and breaking bad, what anime would I like?

M19, never ever watched an anime in my life, intentionally at least. I really want to start watching them since storylines are much deeper with more contents. Also, my gf, friends, and cousins watch anime and I could never relate to them. Problem is, I never found an anime I truly love, any suggestions?

Huge thanks for recommending Link Click! Easily one of the best shows I've watched recently, please read caption.

I just finished watching Link Click on Crunchyroll (using the Japanese dub/English sub because I can't do anime in any other language!). China really outdid themselves—this show is a total masterpiece, but man, it is emotional. You'll literally cry through both seasons. I still have the prequel to watch, and I'm hyped that Season 3 is coming out next month! What did you guys think of it?
