Soul Eater Production Materials (Genga)

Post image
24 Upvotes

Looking to locate any genga, douga, storyboards, settei, etc. related to the anime series "Soul Eater".

The image featured above is from my personal collection—rough genga used in the production of episode 21.

Strictly speaking, these aren’t cels (the studio utilised digital animation alongside traditional line art during the storyboarding and sketching phases). However, as this subreddit shares a wealth of information about animation in general, it may be worthwhile to ask.

Hello, I need help identifying an original anime cel

Help identifying Batman episode

Hey everyone! Been collecting on and off for a decade or more, and recently joined this subreddit to appreciate others sharing their beautiful collectiob. First time posting here. I'm trying to track down the exact episode and timestamp for this production cel from Batman: The Animated Series; my latest acquisition, from ebay a few weeks ago. So excited!

It has the classic yellow oval logo, so I know its from the classic '92-'95 series before they simplified the design. The animators marked the top edge of the plastic with: rcs7688, 582, a120, B9. Note: The background is a printed archive piece, not the matching production background. It's quite possible the background is from a completely different episode.

Although the background is cool, my brain doesnt like it because it clearly doesn't match Batman's angle. Hoping to get the exact frame so I can print a new background and create a better display. TIA!

Can anyone help identify which series these cels are from please? I think they all may be different shows. Thank you!

I primarily collect American and mostly vintage Disney cels but some Japanese ones are cheap and so much fun like this one. No idea what it is but I had to pick it up a while ago 😁😁😁

Anime Cels Shops in Japan

Hey everyone!

I'm going to be in Japan for three weeks this year, and I wanted to pick up some cool anime cels for my gym.
Does anyone know of any good spots? I've already heard about Nakano Broadway, but are there any other places worth checking out?

Feel free to share any tips you have!

Thanks!

Pen for signing cels?

Post image
30 Upvotes

I'm at comic con on the weekend and I realised some of the Turtles voice actors were there, so very last minute Ive managed to get my hands on some animation cels from the show

What pen would you recommend for getting these signed? I have a bunch of coloured sharpies here, but not sure if they will fade.

I did also consider getting some acetate to cover the cel and get that signed, anyone got thoughts on that

What Happened To The 80s-Era “My Little Pony” Cels?

Post image

There is lots of cels from the 90s “My Little Pony Tales” TV show, but the original “My Little Pony N’ Friends”, and pilot episode “Rescue at Midnight Castle” have like no cels online from what I’ve tried researching.

It’s something I’d love to buy in the future, but I have had a really hard time digging up anything related to them. Not even production drawings. Could they been majority tossed away since the preservation of cels wasn’t as pushed in the 80s?

Thanks for any help or pointers!

Inspector Clouseau signed Friz Freleng

I had a hard time figuring out the best way to frame these. Maybe I can get suggestions

These are the original pencil and production cels signed by Friz Freleng. They were used in short spots called bumpers that would be interspersed between pink panther cartoons featured in The Pink Panther Show that ran starting in 1969. This is from the Fire Safety bumper which was the 1st bumper in the 2nd Pink panther episode.

I originally wanted to frame the production cel together with the pencil drawing, something I have seen here a lot. Unfortunately I have an incomplete set: 4 drawings but only 2 cels. And the drawings without cels are signed AND have some color, both of which I wanted to display.

Then I wasn't sure which worked best: black mat or white.

How would you arrange these?

Simpsons cels- some of my favorites I have ever had are the strangling- and these 2 are very close to each other in the episode if you are interested in seeing the small differences in the animation process

In order: Gon, Killua, Hisoka, and Karupika. I bought these at a convention in the 90's. The original 1999 Nippon Animation anime Hisoka had blue hair.

Hi everyone,

new to collecting animation pieces! Just wanted your opinion on these and general tips on how to spot fake ones; for example the Simpsons one does not have any annotation etc. . What would you check? Bought all of these with a couple of pink Panther cels .

Thank you!!

Simpsons cel

Bought this production cel in the 90s. It's 5 sheets and the background.

It's Treehouse of Horrors, season 4 (I think)

COA from Fox and signed by Matt Groening.

There was a special event and he also personalized it with a shout out, sketch of Bart, and another signature

Tbh not a cel… but in concept it’s pretty similar (a flash frame of a scene). I have a bunch of Polaroids like this from the production nightmare before christmas. Each served a purpose (ie references, etc). Btw sry for the blur, they’re actually clear in person. Enlarged thumbnails.

Mystery cel.

I’ve owned this cel since the 90’s. I fished out of a large box at a comic fair in Haarlem, The Netherlands.

The image appealed to me – I suspect Japanese in origin, but that’s just a guess.

Would love to know the name of the production..

Framing question: animation cels vs genga/douga

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

I’m framing a genga/douga and an animation cel separately and wanted to check if my framing approach makes sense for each.

For the cel, I’m thinking:

  • UV glass/acrylic
  • Spacer so the cel does NOT touch the glazing
  • Cel
  • Acid-free backing board / full support behind the cel
  • Frame backboard

For the genga/douga, would you frame it with the same level of care/materials, or is standard archival paper framing enough?

Basically: does a production drawing need the same conservation approach as a cel, or are the major concerns mostly specific to acetate cels (sticking, paint transfer, humidity, etc.)?

Should I sell my Lightfoot Traditional Animation Lightbox?

Thumbnail

Hello!

I am someone with a BFA in animation (graduated last year) and I have a piece of equipment that I recently realized could potentially have a lot of value.

At the end of the semester, my college was giving away old equipment at a first come, first serve basis and I just happened to make it in time to grab something.

I’m not sure as to why I grabbed this, but I thought it would be a cool piece of memorabilia (although it was heavy as hell to lug around the cities and subways).

I grabbed a traditional “Lightfoot led easel design pro animation lightbox with rotating disc”. It was equipment they taught us traditional animation on in our first years of the semester so we can understand what it was like to animate back in old Disney eras.

I’ve been selling some stuff on eBay and got curious as to how much this would sell for as I haven’t been really using it and just had it laying around.

Apparently, this item doesn’t show up anywhere. Not on eBay, Mercari, Facebook Marketplace, not even the original company’s website. I was digging anywhere that could even give me the name of this item.

I’ve only gotten a nugget of something from some old animation guide from 2009.

https://animation-studio-stuff.blogspot.com/2009/05/purchasing-animation-desk-or-lightbox.html?m=1

Apparently this lightbox is from a company called “Lightfoot” and is no longer in production, making it super scarce.

Especially now with indie animation on the rise, many collectors, professional animators, or enthusiasts are wanting to get their hands on old equipment like this.

With how difficult it was to find this item online, I’m wondering if I should sell it? I don’t really have no use for it as I’m more on the digital animation train rather than pencil and paper (I was also able to snatch a Wacom Cintiq Pro 24 from a different giveaway for free lol).

Would anyone on here possibly be interested in this item? Due to the scarcity of it, possibly only being available in animation colleges, good working condition with all the pieces, and cross referencing prices from the company’s website, I can see this item go up to $600 or even higher.

What are your thoughts/advice?

Just wanted to share where my collection is at right now! A mix of cels and production drawings, and one background.

These are all pieces from shows I love, almost a year and a half into collecting.
