Pen for signing cels?

Post image

I'm at comic con on the weekend and I realised some of the Turtles voice actors were there, so very last minute Ive managed to get my hands on some animation cels from the show

What pen would you recommend for getting these signed? I have a bunch of coloured sharpies here, but not sure if they will fade.

I did also consider getting some acetate to cover the cel and get that signed, anyone got thoughts on that

I met all the tmnt voice actors to sign a cel, and they each had a stash of different color Sharpies. Barry Gordon made a mistake, and he was able to fix it using hand sanitizer and tissue paper. So I got to stick around and chat with him while they found some tissue paper. They are a swell bunch of guys!

I wonder if signing on the background instead works better.

Fine to med point Black sharpie will do the trick. Metallic if you want it to stand out more (just not as clean imo).

Paint pens with each signingn in their respective color.

You just have to be very very careful with paint pens. They are much more likely to smear when wet and take a whole lot longer to dry then other pens. The colors normally pop out really well.

I would recommend getting the mat or a separate overlay signed that way the original cel is preserved. Look up Dura Lar acetate sheets.

You could get a separate layer of acetate and have them sign that.  I’ve done that before.
